May 29 Inauguration: 534 Suspects Arrested As NDLEA Raids Drug Joints Nationwide by Whatelse(m) : 3:00 pm On May 20 |
The arrest followed the launch of a nationwide raid of drug joints in an exercise code-named “Operation Mop Up”. The raid was part of law enforcement efforts to remove enablers of crime and violence in the forms of illicit substances and those who deal in them in order to ensure a peaceful inauguration of new administrations at national and state levels across Nigeria on May 29. During the raid, tons of illicit drugs including cocaine, heroin, methamphetamine, tramadol, codeine-based syrup, cannabis sativa, and various new psychoactive substances among others, were recovered across the states and the FCT. Some of the states with high arrests and seizures are Lagos, Kano, Abuja, Kaduna, Rivers, Bayelsa, Adamawa, Osun, Benue, and Plateau. In a remark, the Chairman/Chief Executive Officer of the NDLEA, Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (Retd) who ordered the operation commended all the officers and men of the state commands and other formations involved in the exercise for their professionalism and following the NDLEA standard operating procedure. “I’m impressed by the level of compliance with the directive to all our commands and formations to dismantle all drug joints within their areas of responsibility, mop up all illicit substances in such locations and arrest all those culpable. “This will in no small measure take out of the equation, enablers of crime and violence such as illicit drugs, their dealers and all those relying on mind-altering substances to disrupt the May 29 inauguration ceremonies across the states and the Federal Capital Territory”, Marwa stated. Marwa charged them to continue with the operational maxim of ‘offensive action’ against drug cartels and traffickers until the last gram of illicit drug is taken out of the streets and communities across the country. In other news, Kanyi Daily reported that Abia State Governor-elect, Alex Otti has reacted to the Kano court judgment dismissing his candidacy and other Labour Party (LP) candidates in Abia and Kano States.

FG Begins Installation Of Solar Power Project In Makoko Community by Whatelse(m) : 3:01 pm On Jun 18 |
The Rural Electrification Agency has begun installation of decentralised Solar Home Systems (SHS) in Makoko area of Lagos State, to bridge energy supply to underserved and off-grid communities. Mr Salihijo Ahmad, Chief Executive Officer of the agency, told newsmen during an inspection to Makoko community on Saturday that the agency under the supervision of the Ministry of Power had provided lighting to rural communities. According to Ahmad, the Makoko SHS deployment is a project captured under the Federal Government’s National Poverty Reduction and Growth Strategy. He said given the agency’s role in providing access to electricity for unserved and underserved areas, the role being played here was more of a social service to mitigate the environmental and economic challenges of the community. Read Also: Video:Judy Austin Turns Prison Warden; Locks Yul Edochie out of Their Shared Home He said the installation was in continuation of the implementation of the government’s Economic Sustainability Plan. According to him, the inspection is part of a larger visit to the south-west region, with sites at Osogbo and Ijebu-Ode also visited. “The management will return and access the impact of the projects so far. “Stakeholder engagement (state governments, community hroups and end-users) will continue while all the feedback gathered is considered. “What is clear even in the immediate aftermath is that using a de-centralised approach toward electrification of communities such as Makoko is the right approach given the difficulty of operating a traditional grid system,” he said. Ahmad said: “We are here on inspection visit to access the solar systems that were installed six months ago in schools, hospitals and some homes at Makoko community. “We wanted to test and deploy more decentralised system of solar of 150 watts to critical places like schools, hospitals and essential place to provide lightening for effectiveness. “About 30 units of solar have been deployed so far and we are also planning to deploy more. “We wanted to scale up the project but it is important to inspect the facilities and see the impact in the comuunuity,” he added. Ahmad said the agency was also mindful of the subsidy removal, adding that the solar project would also alleviate the suffering of people in the community. He said the discentralised SHS would go a long way to impact positively on rural communities in Nigeria. He said the project would enable schools, hospitals and household to power fans, bulbs and televisions. According to him, the project which is part of the federal government’s initiatives to provide lighting is completely free of charge because it is an intervention from the government. Mr Jeje-Aide Albert, the Baale (traditional head) of Mokoko Community, commended the agency for the initiative of bringing life to the rural communities. Albert urged the federal government to do more in alleviating the sufferings of Makoko residents.

Asake “Work of Art” Album Review by Whatelse(m) : 2:01 pm On Jul 05 |
Nigerian musician Asake has established himself as a rebirth of ancient tunes and pop inventiveness in just two albums. This new era of genius fit by Asake mostly results from an original renovation of several genres, enhanced by vivid storytelling and an impassioned rap-singing technique. “Work of Art” is really pure work of art! Notably, Asake’s Afro-Fusion music was elevated by his Amapiano blend, a type of South African house music descended from kwaito. Asake’s ability to create a distinctive sound by fusing choral harmonies, string arrangements, and parts of the Indigenous Yoruba music known as Fuji distinguished him from his contemporaries. The Nigerian superstar went on to flourish on his beautiful “Work of Art” album. Remarkably, Asake deftly avoids the predictable music that dominates our airwaves as he comes through with so much diversity on the “Work of Art” album. The talented artist chooses Magicsticks, a collaborator on Asake’s last project and a key figure in the development of his distinct sound, to handle the production of the album. As a result, there is a striking display of regimental beauty, which is emphasized by the traditional use of delicate string and wind instruments, ethereal vocals, and the significant reappearance of rhythmic log drum rhythms. Meanwhile, as Anoop D’Souza, P.Priime, and Blaisebeatz are given additional producing credit. Renowned veteran rapper and Asake’s record label, YBNL, boss – Olamide – is the only featured artist on the 14-track album. Together, these talented producers have contributed their knowledge to mould the album’s lush soundscapes, giving Asake’s already great tunes depth and character. Work Of Art will get you moving despite the language barrier because of the talking drums, continuous log drums, and guitar strings that serve as percussion. Track by Track Review of Asake’s Work of Art albumAsake is currently at the top of the world and he isn’t losing his pace at all. He uses his second album, Work of Art, to good effect as he opens with the contemplative song “Olorun”, in which he praises both himself and the Divine One. The superstar uses the song to appreciate God as he won’t have come this far without him. Asake released the intriguing new song “Amapiano” as the first taste of his much anticipated sophomore album. Notably, his label head, Olamide, contributes another fascinating level of perfection to the great song as a guest act. It should be noted that Asake uses the song “Amapiano” as a prelude to revealing to listeners what to anticipate from his album, “Work of Art”, as he continues the astonishing ascent to fame that has made him one of the most prolific hitmakers in Afrobeats since 2022. In “Basquiat,” he makes it clear that the “work of art” that his album’s name alludes to is, in fact, him. The song’s choruses serve as a gentle reminder that celebration may and should involve a community effort. Asake may seem to be drawn to amapiano because it exemplifies how avant-garde African music can be. Naturally, some of Work of Art’s most catchy tunes are upbeat like this one. “Sunshine” is a reassuring remedy that captures the warmth of time spent with loved ones with its bubbling keyboards and rising choral melodies. Though less sunny, “Awodi” is equally as upbeat. Asake sings of leaving the shantytowns, and his slow, deliberate delivery makes you feel as though he’s reaching out to pick you up beside him. On “What’s Up My G”, the melancholy chords add solitude to the record, and as you know you would hear Asake’s signature log-drum loop creates an upbeat beat we all enjoy hearing, moreover, the talented Afrobeats artist deftly changes the cadence and tone of his voice to fit the tune aptly. Plus, his agile delivery suggests that his wealth has various aspects. And the chorus of voices behind him frames his pompous energy as a choir act as he lyrically counts off designer labels and expensive cars. Seems like Asake intends to capitalize on this album as a medium for a personal narrative in the form of short pop songs in the projects. This is not to argue, however, that the production lacks distinction: songs like “Great Guy” transforms amapiano’s savage bass synths into a pure, rumbling texture that shows Asake’s lyrical depth, while “2:30” allows Asake to reverberate in a way that evokes some Fuji’s talking drums. Meanwhile, the album’s outro, “Yoga”, even transforms the traditional aura and music that was created by Africans who were held as slaves in Réunion and Mauritius, into a modern call for peace. Final ThoughtsThe superstar, Asake, seems to be in a fantastic creative position right now, one that supports a system of reliable output and high calibre as we’ve seen the consistency in this album. Maybe that’s why he can afford to compare himself to American artist genius Jean-Michel Basquiat by using an endless stream of positive phrases. After all, Asakes mentions on this record that his craziest inner visions have come true. Remember that the album peaked at #1 on Apple and is currently in the top three on the majority of streaming services in Nigeria, as well as being at the top of the charts on platforms like Spotify, Boomplay, Audiomack, and iTunes. It’s hardly surprising that he now seems to have a revitalised, insatiable zest for life, adoring assiduously and chasing passion with fervour. This is an incredible work of art that has portrays Asake in his full glory yet. Rating

Drama In Court As WAEC Official Refuses To Verify Ogun Governor's Certificate, Says "My Lips Are Sealed" by Whatelse(m) : 3:00 pm On Jul 21 |
The West African Examination Council WAEC has declined confirming or debunking the authenticity of the Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun’s certificate. One of the officials of the examination body, Olufemi Olaleye, while appearing before the tribunal sitting in Isabo, Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital on Thursday also failed to tender a copy of Abiodun’s certificate. The Tribunal had earlier subpoenaed WAEC to produce a copy of Abiodun’s 1978 WAEC certificate as attached to the form he filled with the Independent National Electoral Commission before the last election. READ ALSO: Despite Hike, Nigeria Has The Cheapest Fuel Price In Africa -- IPMAN The People’s Democratic Party and its candidate in the state in the March 18 governorship election, Ladi Adebutu, not satisfied with the declaration of Governor Abiodun by INEC, had dragged him and his party, the All Progressives Congress before the tribunal on the ground that the election was rigged. Adebutu also accused Abiodun of forging his WAEC certificate. In his petition, the PDP Candidate alleged that Abiodun presented a forged WAEC of June 1978 to the INEC, the 1st Respondent on July 25, 2022. He noted further that he had written a letter to WAEC to verify the authenticity of the certificate presented by Abiodun to it. The official of the examination body while appearing on Thursday, noted that he was neither with a copy of the certificate, nor did he confirm whether or not the governor sat for the examination as claimed. Olaleye, when asked for a copy of the certificate, said: "The requested certificate is not here with me.” He tendered in evidence, a copy of the subpoena issued to WAWC, that made him present himself at the tribunal. Olaleye said he did not bring the requested certificate “because WAEC does not keep duplicates of collected WAEC certificates.” The WAEC official said to confirm whether or not somebody partakes in the council’s examination, “the original certificate given to the candidate will be forwarded to WAEC” for verification. The WAEC official was then discharged after testifing before the tribunal as PW73. When newsmen attempted to speak to him outside the courtroom to give further explanations on why WAEC did not produce the requested certificate, Olaleye retorted: “My lips are sealed.”
