Edo State Governor Godwin Obaseki has said supporters of Peter Obi, presidential candidate of the Labour Party for the 2023 election, popularly known as Obidients, will need time to mature and grow.

POLITICS NIGERIA Obaseki said although Obi, a former governor of Anambra State, is his friend, he does not see him emerging winner in the forthcoming presidential election in February 2023.

“As for me, are they (Obidients) organised enough? Do they have enough experience? You know, the candidate is my friend, Peter Obi. Does he have as much experience as Alhaji Atiku? Not yet. They will need time to mature. They will need time to grow, but for this election, February 2023, which is less than 100 days away, we will see the end result.” Obaseki told This Day Newspaper in an interview published on Wednesday.

Sources said the River State governor and his colleagues plan to brand Atiku as a serial defector who cannot be trusted with power by the electorate.

An associate of Ortom, who prefers anonymity, said the five governors “have agreed among themselves to support a presidential candidate from the South.”

Recall that the ‘integrity group’ within the PDP led by the G5 governors has been in disagreement with the leadership of the party and Atiku, insisting that the party’s National Chairman Iyorchia Ayu resigns as he is from the same zone as the presidential candidate.

Their demand is yet to be met.

Obiozor died on Wednesday at the age of 80 after a brief illness.

Obi in a statement posted on his Twitter handle on Thursday said he is saddened by the news of the elder statesman’s passage.

He described the deceased as a “dear elder brother and friend.”

According to him, Obiozor was a patriot, renowned academic, and diplomat, who served Nigeria and Ohanaeze selflessly and diligently.

The former Anambra governor also said the late President General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo was witty, well-heeled in history, and effusive in his personal charm and warmth.

He noted that his demise is a huge loss to the entire Obiozor Family, the Ohanaeze Ndigbo, and Nigerians in general.

Obi wrote, “I am deeply saddened by the news of the passing of the President General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Worldwide, Prof. George Obiozor.

Minister of Interior, Rauf Aregbesola, on Wednesday lashed out at those promoting a narrative that he is attacking or has once attacked Bola Tinubu, presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the 2023 election.

In a statement signed by his Media Advsier, Sola Fasure, and made available to POLITICS NIGERIA, the former Osun State governor described insinuations that he castigated Tinubu as fake news targeted at maligning his person.

“The social media news making the rounds is targeted at maligning the person of Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola as concerns an alleged attack on the person of the presidential candidate of our Party, the All Progressives Congress, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu. This is fake news and simply not true.

“We urge well-meaning Nigerians to be wary of the evil machinations of this cult of fifth columnists, whose sole business is to cause dissatisfaction, manufacture distractions and sow seeds of doubt”, the statement reads.

More than 200 million Twitter users have had their email addresses compromised and being given away for free on a hacker forum.

According to reports, the stolen information by the hacker forum are email addresses used to set up accounts,  and this will be a source of concern for anonymous users who registered with a sensitive address.

Twitter owned by Elon Musk has not responded to different requests for comments about the breach, with the BBC not yet verifying the data, with breaches often turning out to contain duplicate, old or fake information.


According to Alon Gal of cyber-crime information firm, Hudson Rock, the firm that discovered the leak, it contained more than 200 million email addresses and was "significant".

Gal told the BBC that it would "unfortunately lead to a lot of accounts getting hacked, targeted with phishing, and doxxed".

Doxxing is known as the act of publishing personal information about someone that can lead to their identification.



Some form users have expressed their interest in the data, with one saying: "Thanks for your service cannot wait for the chaos."

Tech news website, Bleeping Computer has downloaded the data and confirmed that the email addresses were correct for many of the listed Twitter profiles, while also discovering that the data contained duplicates.

It reported: "The full dataset has obviously not been confirmed. The dataset is far from complete, as there were many users who were not found in the leak."

Another researcher suggested that many Twitter accounts feature many times, but the number of unique email addresses involved is still more than 100 million.

A fire outbreak on Friday afternoon occurred at a shopping plaza near the Relief Market in Onitsha, Anambra State.

POLITICS NIGERIA reports that the cause of the inferno cannot yet be ascertained. The plaza houses multi-million naira worth of goods.

According to eyewitnesses, the fire started from a shop within the plaza on Friday.

Personnel of the Anambra State fire service subsequently put out the fire.

This newspaper reports that fire outbreaks are caused by several factors which could be either natural or human activities.

The majority of market fires were found to have been caused by electric surges while very few were due to burning of refuse close to the markets.

Other factors include indiscriminate petrol storage, careless disposal of cigarette stubs, adulterated fuel, illegal connection, substandard cables, among others.

Data also show that some traders lost their lives to the infernos while some others sustained injuries while trying to salvage their goods.

Experts have also identified urbanisation without commensurate improvement and expansion in public infrastructure, poor safety culture, as well as a wide gap in skills, knowledge, security risk management and mitigation as part of the causes of incessant fire incidents in Nigeria.

Senator Elisha Ishaku Abbo has reacted his sack by a high court in Adamawa state, describing it as a ‘Cash and Carry Judgement’.

Aboo, who represents Adamawa Noirth Senatorial District in the Ninth National Assembly, was disqualified from contesting for the Senatorial seat in 2023 by the State High Court 3 presided over by Justice Danladi Mohammed.

While delivering judgement, Justice Mohammed held that the embattled Senator and the APC are bound by the resolution of Mubi North Local Government Executives dated October 7, 2022, which expelled him, saying that he is not entitled to enjoy any right or privilege accorded to APC members.

Reacting to the judgement, Abbo complained that the court is said to be the last hope of the common man but has sadly become ‘cash and carry’. He described the ruling as ‘flawed’ because those who purportedly expelled him from the party are not local government party executives and therefore have no jurisdiction to expel him.

In addition, it is only the ward executive of the party, according to the APC constitution, that has the right to punish any erring member of the party and not the local government or even the state exco.

He revealed that he will appeal the case in the Court of Appeal and therefore called on his supporters to remain calm.

Professor Kingsley Moghalu, a former Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) who contested for the office of president in the 2019 general election, on Saturday said the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) is not prepared for a free and fair election in Nigeria in 2023, going by its not-too-impressive method of distribution of Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs).
