Nollywood actress, Sarah Martins has thrown shade at May Edochie, the first wife of her colleague, Yul Edochie, over her refusal to accept her husband’s polygamous marriage.

Taking to her Instagram page, Sarah Martins shared the video of a lady defending the concept of African men marrying multiple wives, affirming that polygamy is not a crime in Nigeria.

The actress accompanied the videos with a lengthy caption, seemingly throwing shade at May Edochie, as she recounted her personal experience of leaving her marriage after her ex-husband cheated on her with an older woman, despite marrying her as a virgin at the age of 19.

She encouraged women who cannot accept sharing their men’s polygamous nature to follow her example and peacefully walk away, instead of making it a big issue.

Sarah expressed that she had no right to dictate an African man’s choices and acknowledged that she chose to move on without gathering sympathy, even though she felt betrayed and used.

The National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons has identified Libya and the United Arab Emirates as the top two nations on the list of countries Nigerians are most human trafficked to in the world.

Other countries listed include Ghana, Cote d’Ivoire and India.

The Director General of NAPTIP, Prof. Fatima Waziri-Azi, disclosed this on Tuesday in Abuja, during the Inaugural Joint Technical Working Group meeting on a memorandum signed between Nigeria and The Gambia to prevent, suppress and punish trafficking in persons, especially women and children.

This was as the Country Representative of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime, Oliver Stober, claimed that victims of domestic trafficking have increased by 24 per cent despite concerted efforts in sub-Saharan Africa.

The PUNCH reports that the joint technical group is aimed at strengthening cooperation between Nigeria and The Gambia to facilitate information sharing to aid operational success and develop joint strategies to control trafficking in persons between the countries through the development of all collective guidelines and joint coordinated counter-trafficking interventions.

Waziri, speaking during her opening address, said people trafficked were primarily subjected to illegal enterprise sexual exploitation, labour exploitation, and domestic servitude, adding that as an agency mandated to tackle the scourge of trafficking in person, the MOU set parameters for the prosecution, protection, as well as repatriation, rehabilitation and reintegration of victims.

According to her, a country’s ability to combat human trafficking effectively translates into a global response to reduce crimes in general

She said, “Since the execution of the MOU, NAPTIP in collaboration with our Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and the National Intelligence Agency has successfully rescued and repatriated a number of Nigerian victims. Six victims have been rescued and repatriated and 10 victims have been rescued and awaiting repatriation. Two suspects have been arrested in The Gambia and there are two ongoing investigations.

“Top countries where Nigerians are trafficked in order of scale include Libya, United Arab Emirates, Ghana, Côte d’Ivoire, and India. In 2022, as an agency, we received 1,440 reported cases, 412 were external trafficking cases, and 1,028 were internal trafficking cases. We rescued and received 2,743 victims, out of which 1,454 were female adults, 688 female children, 363 male adults and 233 male children.

“Victims of human trafficking were 45, returned victims from outside Nigeria were 251 and intercepted victims from various border points were 1,484. Top on the list for trafficking in persons was sexual exploitation, followed by labour exploitation, and domestic servitude.

“As a country, we have scaled our efforts to tackle this crime through our five broad strategic approaches of prevention, protection, prosecution, partnership and policy.”

She further stressed the need for a legal framework that will hasten the convictions of perpetrators, who operate with highly-connected networks.

Speaking also during the meeting, the Executive Director of The Gambia National Agency Against Trafficking in Persons, Isatou Dabo, highlighted the importance of collaboration as a means to enhance our capacity and strengthen efforts to prevent human trafficking in Africa.

“This MOU is an important step towards our concerted efforts in combating human trafficking between Nigeria and The Gambia. The collaboration is important because it will enable us to enhance our capacities and strengthen our efforts in the fight against the trafficking of persons. We believe the partnership will bring about groundbreaking impacts.”

 Three banks commercial banks, a university and other suspects are currently under investigation by the Nigeria Data Protection Commission (NDPC) over alleged data breach.

A data breach, an unauthorised access to confidential information is an offence punishable under Nigerian extant laws.

The NDPC listed Zenith, Fidelity, Guarantee Trust Banks, Babcock University, Leadway Insurance, and others as the organisations who may be guilty of the interaction.

The National commissioner of NDPC, Vincent Olatunji, in a statement on Thursday, said the investigation was birthed after complaints from data subjects.

 Olatunji said with the new Nigerian Data Protection Act (NDPA), the commission has the legal backing to address issues of citizens’ data breaches.

“In the last few weeks, the NDPC has received complaints bordering on unlawful data processing, unauthorised access to personal data and violation of data subjects’ rights,” Olatunji said.

Continuing, he said:

“Under Part 10 of the newly signed NDPA 2023, a data controller with a turnover of N200 billion yearly may pay as high as N2 billion, which represents two per cent of the gross revenue.”

 “Not only that, offenders also risk up to one-year jail term. We are currently investigating Guarantee Trust Bank, Fidelity, Unity, Zenith banks, Leadway Insurance and Babcock University, among others, for data breach.”

 Agents of the Federal Bureau of Intelligence FBI have killed Craig Deleeuw Robertson, the man accused of making threats against U.S. President, Joe Biden.

According to authorities, Robertson was killed hours before Biden was expected to land in the state Wednesday.

The FBI in a statement said its special agents were trying to serve a warrant on the Provo, south of Salt Lake City home of Robertson when the shooting happened at 6:15 a.m.

Robertson had on Monday posted that having learnt Biden was coming to Utah, he will dig out a camouflage suit and “clean the dust off the m24 sniper rifle.”

Investigators said in court records that his assertion implies that he owns a long-range sniper rifle and numerous other weapons, as well as camouflage gear known as a “ghillie suit”.

Court documents also states that Robertson in his post also made a reference to a “presidential assassination” while making other threats against Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg, U.S. Attorney General Merrick Garland and New York Attorney General Letitia James.

“The time is right for a presidential assassination or two. First Joe then Kamala!!!” authorities allege Robertson wrote in a September 2022 Facebook post included in the filings.

 Robertson had no attorney listed on his behalf in court documents, with the FBI currently reviewing the shooting that led to his demise.

 The Lagos State Government has announced a diversion of traffic at Alagba Ramp, inwards Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway from Thursday, August 24, for the duration of 18 weeks. Motorists are implored to be patient as the closure of the ramp is temporary and part of the traffic management plans to enhance mobility and ensure safety.

Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Transportation, Engr. Abdulhafiz Toriola who made the announcement on Wednesday, August 23, said the decision was taken for “continuation of the Iyana Ipaja Bus Terminal Project." Engineer Toriola also provided alternative routes as follows:

I Motorists inbound Lagos/Abeokuta Expressway from the Iyana ipaja bridge will be diverted to Alagba intersection to link the slip road on the left side of the Alagba roundabout to access Lagos Abeokuta Expressway.

II: Heavy vehicles from Egbeda/Alagutan inbound Agege or Abule-Egba will be diverted to the Lagos-bound slip road from Ecobank Roundabout to make a U-turn at Iyana Dopemu to continue their journeys.
