Ghanian Singer, Obrafour Sues Drake for $10 Million Over Music Copyright by Stooi76(m) : 2:01 pm On Apr 21

Recently Obrafour, a Ghanaian Hip Hop legend, has made headlines for filing a lawsuit against Drake, a Canadian award-winning rapper for sampling his song ‘Oye Ohene’ without permission.

Drake « tooXclusive

It all happened in April 2022 when Drake released the album ‘Honestly, Nevermind’ and on the sixth track of the album ‘Calling My Name’, he sampled the 2003 remix of Obrafour’s ‘Oye Ohene’.

The court documents read; “Defendants released the Infringing Work on June 17, 2022, despite the fact that an agent of one or more Defendants had previously contacted Obrafour seeking to obtain Obrafour’s permission for the use of the Copyrighted Work in the Infringing Work.”

“Obrafour never granted Defendants permission to use the Copyrighted Work and the Infringing work was released mere days later”.

When this news surfaced, many people were surprised to know that Drake had sampled a Ghanaian artiste’s song for his album and yet, had never sought Obrafour’s permission. This can be seen as a clear breach of copyright laws as the song was not only used without permission but it resulted in huge financial gains for Drake and other defendants as well.

“To date, over the mere 304 days that have elapsed since the Infringing Work was released, the Infringing Work has already been streamed over 4.1 million times on YouTube, streamed over 47,442,160 times on Spotify, and streamed tens of millions of times on Apple Music.

“In addition to generating enormous sums of global streams and sales across numerous platforms, the Infringing Work has also been exploited by the Defendants via other means, including live performance,” the document added.

He is also seeking an injunction requiring the defendants and their agents, employees, officers, attorneys, successors, licensees, partners, and assigns, and all persons acting in concert or participation with each or any one of them, to cease directly and indirectly infringing, and causing, enabling, facilitating, encouraging, promoting, inducing, and/or participating in the infringement of any of Obrafour’s rights protected by the Copyright Act.”

How I Tackled Reporters For Looking Down On Wizkid During P-Square Concert – Peter Okoye by Stooi76(m) : 3:00 pm On Apr 26

Peter Okoye of the music group, Psquare, has revealed how he predicted that his colleague, Wizkid, would be successful in the Nigerian music industry.

I Tackled Reporters For Looking Down On Wizkid During P-Square Concert – Peter Okoye

Peter, also known as Mr P,  spoke during his appearance on the latest episode of The 77 Podcast alongside his twin brother and partner, Paul Okoye.

According to him, he never looked down on Wizkid at the beginning of his career when he was signed to EME Records owned by music star, Banky W.

He recalled how he tackled some reporters for snubbing Wizkid when he came to perform at one of their music concerts as an opening artiste years ago.

Peter Okoye said he told the reporters to interview Wizkid because the ‘Ojulegba crooner’ was going to dominate the music industry in the near future.

“We [P-Square] were never the type of artistes that looked down on anybody. If you remember, there was a video that went viral where it was P-Square concert and Wizkid was opening for us.

So, they [reporters] kept on interviewing only P-Square and we were like, okay, guys, hold on. What about him? They said… I said no, this guy is going to take over tomorrow,” he said.

Wizkid has grown to become  the most streamed African artist on Spotify, with over four billion streams. His song ‘Essence’, which featured Tems, is the longest-charting Nigerian song on the US Billboard Hot 100.

On his part while speaking about their impact, Paul Okoye opined: “Don’t forget who dominated the [music] industry for a long time. We [PSquare] held it down for nearly 13,14 years. We were there. Up there.

“In fact, we started doing traveling around the world, doing the stadiums, doing everything. People fainting, people crying. Signing multimillion dollars deals.”

KanyiDaily recalls that Peter Okoye had recently shared the moment he caught a fraudster using his face on video call to scam people.

Music and Mental Health: How Music Affects Our Emotions and Well-being by Stooi76(m) : 2:00 pm On May 08

Music has a long history of serving as a global language, and it can elicit a variety of feelings in listeners and influence their mental and emotional health. The experience of listening to music may be therapeutic, and it can help us cope with stress, anxiety, depression, and other mental health concerns in a variety of different ways. In this piece, we will discuss the connection between music and mental health, as well as how music may influence our feelings and overall well-being.

Music has a distinctive method of influencing our sentiments, as it is capable of evoking both pleasant and negative sensations in us at the same time. The act of listening to music causes a neurotransmitter known as dopamine to be produced in our brains. Dopamine is associated with feelings of pleasure and reward. When we listen to peppy music, we experience these feelings of happiness and elevation because of this. On the other side, slow and gloomy music can elicit emotions of melancholy, nostalgia, and even loss.

Additionally, listening to music may have a soothing impact on our thoughts and bodies, lowering levels of tension and anxiety. Cortisol is a hormone that is produced as a reaction to stress. Several studies have shown that listening to music helps reduce cortisol levels. When trying to relax or meditate, many individuals find that listening to music helps them the most.

Additionally, listening to music has been shown to increase our cognitive function and memory. This is because listening to music activates many different brain regions, including those responsible for memory, attention, and language. Numerous studies have shown that listening to music, particularly among more senior citizens, may boost one’s cognitive ability.

A kind of treatment known as music therapy employs the use of music in order to address a patient’s emotional, cognitive, and social requirements. In the treatment of mental health conditions, including depression, anxiety, and post-traumatic stress disorder (also known as PTSD), it is often used. The use of music therapy may assist patients in expressing their feelings, developing skills to cope with stressful situations, and improving their mood as well as their sense of self-worth.

To summarize, music has a significant influence on both our feelings and our physical health. Listening to music may cause a variety of feelings in us, and it can also assist us in coping with stressful and anxious feelings. Patients struggling with mental health conditions have access to an effective treatment option in the form of music therapy, which may help them enhance their emotional, cognitive, and social well-being. Therefore, the next time you find yourself feeling overwhelmed or anxious, put on your go-to playlist and allow the music to soothe both your mind and your spirit.

“I Used To Be Homeless” – Hilda Baci Reveals As She Advices Young Women by Stooi76(m) : 3:00 pm On May 23

Nigerian chef, Hilda Effiong Bassey, popularly known as Hilda Baci, has opened up about her journey to stardom and her ambitious plans for the future.

"I Used To Be Homeless" – Hilda Baci Reveals As She Advices Young Women

KanyiDaily recalls that on May 15, 2023, Hilda Baci broke the Guinness World Record for the longest cooking time by an individual after smashing the previous record set by Chef Lata Tondon in Rewa, India in 2019.

The Akwa Ibom chef, who broke Tondon’s record of 87 hours and 45 minutes, cooked for 100 hours and 40 minutes to set a new world record as the first human on earth to spend such an amount of time cooking.

Although the Guinness World Record is yet to confirm Hilda Baci as the new record holder for the longest cooking marathon, the chef is not only revolutionizing the culinary world but also inspiring others to overcome adversity and pursue their passions relentlessly.

During an interview with TVC, Hilda Baci shared the numerous challenges she faced on her path to success, revealing that she had experienced homelessness in the past.

She encouraged young women to defy societal stereotypes and pursue their dreams, stressing that individuals should not rely on others to create opportunities for them.

The chef said: “I need young women to see that there’s more to them than society’s stereotypes. There’s always that narrative that you can’t make it [without having others] create a platform for you.

“I’m saying this from an informed place because I used to be like that. For me, I needed to keep doing things with myself to show people that they can win as well. You can have a business, start cooking from home, and build that business properly to the point where you can open an outlet, expand that outlet, and branch out. But you need to do your due diligence. It’s not easy.

“Many people see this buzz now and think I dropped from the sky. They didn’t know I was homeless at some point. There’s an entire phase that got me here, and I am not even done.

“Away from all the buzz, I had plans to open a bigger space because we were outgrowing our space and we needed much bigger staff strength. I’m working on a cookware line. There are things and designs I don’t find. Some work for food vendors, home use, and content creators. I need to put a collection together. Nigerian food is so good. I have many students from across the world. I look [forward] to hosting masterclasses.”

KanyiDaily recalls that Hilda Baci had also appealed to Nigerians to focus on her ingenuity and determination in putting the country on the global stage, rather than criticizing her fashion choices.

“I Could Have Been Married" - Moet Abebe Reveals Why Her Engagement Failed [Video]

During an emotional interview conducted by media personality, Chude Jideonwo, the TV presenter lamented that she could have been a married woman but things didn’t work out between herself and her ex-fiance.

Shedding light on her painful experience and the factors that led to her failed relationship, Moet Abebe revealed that her partner was abusive and she had to call of their engagement.

“I could have been a married woman right now. I was engaged, but it didn’t work out. Also, it was a violent relationship. And I realised that is not what I want for myself,” she said.

She further elaborated on the challenging journey she endured, stating, “I was in a violent relationship for about two and a half years. It wasn’t even a thing that someone would have to come and drag me out of the relationship, I need to sort of realise that no more, this cannot be you loving yourself. You being here means that you don’t want the best for yourself. And that was how I left the relationship.”
