According to the former Lagos State governor, in the current campaign season, Nigerians will continually hear from him. “I see myself as a marketable individual. They want to use me to make money and I said no,” Tinubu said. POLITICS NIGERIA recalls that Obi on Tuesday officially unveiled Osuntokun as the new DG of his campaign council. Osuntokun is the former Political Adviser to ex-President Olusegun Obasanjo on Tuesday. He replaced Doyin Okupe, who stepped down following his money laundering travail. But in a statement sent to this newspaper, Arabambi said Oshuntokun cannot be trusted with such a position because of many factors which included, divided loyalty, deliberate falsehood and political infraction. According to him, facts show that Oshuntokun is the Senatorial Candidate of Zenith Labour Party (ZLP), representing Ekiti Central Senatorial district, whose presidential candidate is Dan Nwayanwu who also doubles as Zenith Labour party National Chairman. “In the list of candidates just cleared by INEC for the National Assembly elections, Akin Oshuntokun’s name and particulars were there, and this shows that he is a member of ZLP and also its National Assembly candidate. “From available record, ZLP has its own Presidential and Vice Presidential Candidates. So how then will he be leading our party campaign from another party,” Arabambi queried. He added: “We are also sure that Oshuntokun has not resigned from ZLP, neither has he secured a Court order from a competent Court of jurisdiction to delete his name from INEC list as the 90days time allowed for substitution of candidates by political parties has lapsed”, Arabambi said. “He is now presently the Ekiti Central Senatorial candidate of Zenith Labour party, meaning that he is contesting against Peter Obi and Labour party on February 25th 2023.  A convoy of vehicles conveying the lawmaker representing Eket Senatorial District (Akwa Ibom South), Mrs. Akon Iyakenyi, back to Uyo, the Akwa-Ibom State capital from her campaign tour has reportedly killed a couple along the Calabar-Itu Highway. POLITICS NIGERIA reports that the occurrence, which happened on Friday, triggered protests by angry youths of Akon-Itam community in Itu Local Government Area (LGA) of Akwa Ibom State. Senator Iyakenyi is the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Deputy Governorship candidate and running mate to Pastor Umo Eno, the party’s flag-bearer in the forthcoming elections in 2023. One of the irate youths, Utibe Inyang, explained that the convoy rammed into the couple on a motorcycle while trying to navigate the ever-busy highway connecting the neighbouring Calabar, Cross River State. He said the youths were angry because the Senator gave a ‘paltry’ sum of N2 million to the family of the late couple. “The husband and wife killed by her convoy died and left behind three young children, so the pains we are still feeling now is because of the disdainful attitude demonstrated by the Deputy Governorship candidate without considering how these young orphans would be trained and developed without their parents,” Inyang said.
Meanwhile, a statement by Samuel Duncan, the media aide to the Senator gave a different version of the story. Duncan claimed that the killer of the couple was “a hit-and-run driver in a Toyota Sienna”. The statement reads: “We have been inundated with calls and concerns from friends, colleagues, associates, supporters, and well-wishers over the safety of the Senator representing Akwa Ibom South District and PDP Deputy Governorship Candidate, SenatorAkon Eyakenyi, following reports of an accident that occurred December 23, 2022, around the Obong-Itam stretch of the Calabar-Itu Highway, and hereby declare that the Distinguished Senator is safe, hale and hearty. “Senator Eyakenyi was on her way to represent the PDP Governorship Candidate, Pst. Umo Eno at an event in Uruan LGA, when a hit-and-run driver in a Toyota Sienna ran into a motorbike conveying a lady at an intersection, throwing both the rider and passenger into the right of way of the vehicle that conveyed the Senator. “The unprovoked attack on the Senator’s vehicle as shown in some sections of the media was only perpetuated by people seeking to make political capital from the unfortunate situation as eyewitnesses battled in vain to absolve the convoy of any wrongdoing in the incidence [sic], even as Senator Eyakenyi stood by to rein-in her security aides from getting confrontational with the irate mob. “Our office has reported the incident to the Police, hoping the hit and run driver is identified, while restating commitment to helping the Police establish closure on the matter. “We hereby commiserate families of victims of the unfortunate occurrence and frown at every attempt at politicizing the avoidable spill.” The article was originally published on Politics Nigeria.

 The Ekiti State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal in Ado Ekiti on Thursday threw out a suit filed by the governorship candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) in the June 18 election, Segun Oni challenging Biodun Oyebanji’s emergence as governor of the state. POLITICS NIGERIA reports that the Tribunal, in its judgement delivered by Justice Wilfred Kpochi, threw out Oni’s case and affirmed that all certificates presented by Monisade Afuye, now Deputy Governor belong to her and all are genuine. It would be recalled that Oni, a former governor of the state had filed a petition against Oyebanji (All Progressives Congress, APC), alleging that he scored the highest number of valid votes and APC didn’t have a governorship candidate. Oni also said Mrs Afuye now-Deputy Governor submitted fake West African Examinations Council (WAEC) results to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). Oyebanji, a former Secretary to the Ekiti State Government and a former Chief of Staff, was officially sworn in as Governor of Ekiti State on October 16, 2022. The police in the Gauteng province in South Africa have arrested three suspects including an ex-girlfriend for the alleged murder of a 35-year-old man and his 29-year-old pregnant partner. The suspects, aged between 30 and 32 are facing three counts of murder, kidnapping and house robbery among other possible additional charges. According to Masondo, the deceased couple were reported missing on December 15 before their bodies were recovered on December 23.   ‘The couple was reported missing on the 15 December, 2022, in Vanderbijlpark. ‘Various units of the police that include Crime Intelligence, Hawks, Gauteng Provincial Investigation Unit, Sedibeng K9, SAPS Vanderbijlpark and SAPS Heidelberg were mobilized to search for the victims,’ Masondo said. ‘A thorough search and investigation led to the arrest of three suspects in Heidelberg and the discovery of the bodies in an open field in Heidelberg on Friday, 23 December, 2022. ‘The suspects will appear before the Heidelberg Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday, December 28,’ Masondo said.
