Although while his sentence hasn’t been confirmed by the United States District Court for the Central District of California which had slated the sentence for 3rd November, Kemi has however given an update.

”UPDATE Just like I predicted 10-15yrs, Hushpuppi is sentenced to 11 yrs in US federal prison. He will spend 9 yrs less the two years spent. Once released he will be deported to Nigeria or file asylum in 🇺🇸 as he claims DCP Kyari will harm him and his family.”

A 43 year-old married woman has been beaten to death by her 21-year-old lover.

Dailymail reported that the incident happened  just hours after her husband found him n3ked in her bedroom, a court heard. 

David Cheres, 21, allegedly kicked and slashed at 43-year-old Tiprat Argatu with a knife and scissors at her home in Whitechapel, east London, in the early hours of January 24 last year. 

Cheres stamped on her neck, breaking bones in her larynx and stabbed her with a pair of scissors with so much force they bent in half, jurors at the Old Bailey heard.

He admitted to Ms Argatu's manslaughter by diminished responsibility, but is standing trial at the Old Bailey charged with murder.

Cheres and Ms Argatu's husband, Silviu, were said to be good friends who were sharing a house alongside three other Romanian men at the time of the 'savage' attack.

Giving evidence today, housemate Flavius Cosovan said he heard Cheres in Ms Argatu's bedroom on the night she was killed.

He said: ‘She was calling him darling and they were talking nicely to each other.

 

‘This seemed strange to me because David is a friend of Silviu’s and I was wondering what David was doing in Silviu’s room when Silviu was away.’

Mr Cosovan later claimed he heard Mr Argatu shout: 'Why did you do this to me'? after returning home and discovering his wife was naked in Cheres' room.

Cheres had previously been friends with Mrs Argatu’s spouse, who had discovered he was having s3x with her just hours earlier, the court heard.

Mr Cosovan then went down to the kitchen and saw them in the corridor, where the pair were jostling as Silviu planned to leave.

He said: ‘Silviu had a small rucksack on his back and clearly wanted to leave.

 

‘Silviu was saying to David: "Let go, let go, leave me alone, leave me alone..."

 

‘Silviu’s wife tried to keep her husband in the flat putting her arms around him. Silviu said to his wife: “Tell your lover to leave me alone so that I can leave”.

 

‘David was pulling him by his left forearm trying to hold onto him and begging him to stay.'

Mr Cosovan said he next time he saw Cheres he was stood outside the entrance to the building with two suitcases.

He said he was going to his father’s house and they were both planning to go somewhere new to live.

But he returned 20 minutes alter still carrying the suitcases and didn’t mention moving out again.

Mr Cosovan said that night on 24 January he awoke at 4am to hear Mrs Argatu shouting ‘don’t worry darling’ repeatedly.

He also heard a man’s voice quieter than Mrs Argatu’s voice which he assumed was Cheres. Around thirty minutes later he heard the man go to the toilet.

When he returned he heard Mrs Argatu saying ‘don’t worry darling, don’t worry darling’ again.

He then awoke again at around 5am to hear loud banging, and then heard someone leaving the flat.

He said he then saw blood on Cheres’ door handle and the police were called. Prosecutors claim the alleged murder took place between 4 and 5am.

Mr Cosovan said Mr and Mrs Argatu had been arguing regularly and would argue and then make up but he had never seen them have a physical fight.

He said Mr Argatu was caring towards his wife and would give her a kiss when he came home and ask how she was.

Prosecutor James Dawes, KC, said Cheres ‘blamed’ himself and his lover for breaking his friendship with her husband and attacked her.

Police found Cheres later that morning, leaving a ‘bin cupboard’ stark naked, the Old Bailey heard.

Jurors were told Cheres has admitted manslaughter on the basis of diminished responsibility but he denies murder.

Mr Dawes went on to say that Cheres’ attack might have been fuelled by losing his friendship with Mr Argatu.

‘The defendant’s motive may have been feelings of self pity about the way his life was going and disgust at his own s3xual behaviour and anger and perhaps the loss of his friendship with Tiparat’s husband.

 

‘Silviu had discovered the defendant had had s3x with Tiparat and perhaps he blamed himself or blamed her for the breaking of his friendship with Silviu.

Ms Argatu was from Thailand and married her Romanian husband in 2019.

The couple lived in Thailand for 18 months before moving to London in September 2020.

Cheres had met and become friends with Mr Argatu previously and the two kept in touch even when the latter was living in Asia.

When Mr Argatu came back to London in 2020, he and Cheres met up before Cheres eventually moved into a spare room in the couple’s shared flat in Ellen Street.

They lived with three other Romanian men who were in the UK doing construction or building jobs.

Cheres, of Argyll Gardens, Burnt Oak, northwest London, denies murder but admits manslaughter on the basis of diminished responsibility.

The trial continues.

A Nigerian man has been apprehended by security operatives in India for allegedly duping a woman of 18 lakh (N9.5m) after promising to marry her.

The police confirmed his arrest on Sunday, October 30.

The 50-year-old Nigerian identified as Amuluonye Prince Felix, was arrested in Delhi by the Hyderabad City Cyber Crime Police.

Officials acted on a complaint lodged at the S.R. Nagar Police Station by the victim who said she came across the fraudster’s profile on a matrimonial website.

In his fake profile with an assumed name, Varun Rao, the accused claimed to be a civil engineer based in the US.

According to the woman, after she posted a photo of herself on the matrimonial site, the fraudster contacted her and expressed his interest in marriage.

They then exchanged WhatsApp numbers and began to chat and make WhatsApp calls.

The fraudster informed her that he had sent her a gift parcel from the US containing electronic gadgets, US dollars and gold ornaments, police said.

Subsequently, on June 1, 2022, the victim received multiple phone calls from persons claiming to be customs officials of Indira Gandhi International Airport in Delhi and the income tax officials, asking her to pay various taxes to release the parcel.

After paying up to 18 lakh towards income tax, money laundering tax, GST and anti-terrorism charges, the woman realised that she was conned and approached police a few months ago.

During investigation, police found that the accused was based in Delhi and a special team arrested the Nigerian from Greater Noida a few days ago.

 

“He came to India on a business visa in 2012 and continued to stay here even after his visa expired. He hatched a plan to defraud people online with the help of his friends for which he created fake profiles on different matrimonial websites, sent requests to innocent unmarried women using foreign numbers and introduced himself as if he was living abroad,” police said.

Explaining the accused’s modus operandi, police said that he used international SIM cards to commit fraud.

His victims would receive similar calls, claiming to be from government agencies, demanding money. Unsuspecting victims would send the money.

Police seized three laptops, eight mobile phones, 10 SIM cards, and two debit cards from the accused’s possession.

I am sure you have heard the popular saying that “language is the major tool of a lawyer”. There is no gainsaying the communication skill is a must-have skill for every lawyer. Frankly speaking, the way you communicate as a lawyer will go a long way to tell what you are capable of doing.

Today, clients are more concerned about the kind of grammar their lawyers use when talking to them. They tend to accept the service of a lawyer that relate more closely with them, than the once that just tell them the position of the law facially.

4. Ability to articulate thoughts clearly: Sachin Daga, one of the most influential Indian lawyer made a statement when he was interviewed. He said that “law is nothing but common sense”. Going further, Sachin Daga said that a good lawyer must be able to articulate thought very clearly. This is what will help him to make good and valid arguments in the court of law.

As a lawyer, your ability of think laterally and quickly will go a long way to determine your success in the profession. I therefore enjoin you to start learning how to argue coherently today. No doubt, it is one of the essential things you need as a lawyer.

5. Anticipate: It will be difficult or even impossible to be a good lawyer without the ability to anticipate what the judge in any case/circumstance will decide. The ability of a lawyer to anticipate what his opposing counsel will argue in court will help him to counter those arguments before they are even presented to the counsel.

The importance of your ability to anticipate as a lawyer cannot be overemphasized. In fact, some countries have entrenched some courses into the curriculum of law students to help them develop the ability to anticipate. For instance, in Nigeria, there is a course called “Legal reasoning” in Nigeria Law School. It is a “must” for every law student there. This confirms the fact that a lawyer must not lack the ability to anticipate the argument of his fellow lawyer or the judgment of the judge. Indeed, it is very pertinent to be a successful lawyer.

6. Lifelong learning: Have you ever wondered why lawyers are called practicing lawyers? The rationale behind this is that, there is no stage at which a lawyer will be said to have reached the apex of learning in his profession. Law is dynamic.

Anytime a case is brought to the court, it is either the law will be applied immediately or the judge will make a law himself (case law) to make sure that justice is done. This is why a lawyer must be ready to learn throughout his life. He must be ready to read every day. He must fortify himself with all the recent legal trends in the country he is practicing.

In “Turning point of my life”, Feli S. Nariman said that whether he has a case or not, he always come to court to learn new things. Here, Nariman clearly expressed the fact that law is a profession where learning will never end.

Now that I have highlighted the skills required to be a good lawyer, I will now typify the tips you will need to become a successful lawyer. Note that this article is not made for any particular country. So whether you are from India, America, Britain, Ghana or Nigeria, there is absolutely no problem following these tips.

The remains of Chief Mrs. Cecelia Egonjiuka Apollos-Nwachukwu, mother of Lady Joyce Chinedu-Adiele, Commissioner in the Abia State Civil Service Commission and Hon. Obinna Nwachukwu, Deputy State PDP Chairman has been laid to rest at her hometown, Abayi Amaugwu in Osisioma Ngwa LGA.

Speaking during the funeral at the All Saints Cathedral Church, Abayi-Umuocham, Governor Okezie Ikpeazu described the late woman as a true example of a vrtuous woman, adding that her influence made her children to be successful in all their endeavours.

Governor Ikpeazu while also describing death as inevitable for all mortals, said that the death of the deceased marks the closure of the chapter of the Nwachukwu family matriarch and urged the children to ensure the vacuum created is filled.

He encouraged the family to keep the memories of their parents alive by upholding the sterling legacies of their parents as well as make godliness their watchword and prayed God to grant the deceased a peaceful repose.

In a tribute, the first son of the deceased, Chief Kenneth Nwachukwu said their mother was a great mother to them, their relations and neighbours and was devout Christian and committed community leader. He described her as a role model, kind teacher, care giver and pillar of support, who lived a fulfilled life while thanking the Governor and all who came to identify with them in their moment of grief.

Earlier in a sermon, the Cathedral Administrator, All Saints Anglican Church, Ven Dr. Ben Nwokedi charged people to turn away from sin and live a life of righteousness with contentment, adding that people should not motgage their lives for earthly wealth. He reminded them to pursue things that have eternal value, knowing that this world is not their home and called on all to reconcile with God now that he is alive as everyone who is alive is responsible for his life on Earth.

Aged 84 years, Chief Mrs. Cecelia Egonjiuka Apollos-Nwachukwu is survived by 4 children including Ms Ijeoma Nwachukwu, a son in law, Hon. Justice Chinedu Adiele and host of other relations while the burial ceremony was attended by many dignitaries including, Wife of the Governir, Dr. Mrs. Nkechi Ikpeazu, the former Deputy Governor, Rt. Hon Eric Acho Nwakanma, House of Representatives member, Hon. Solomon Sloddy Adaelu, Secretary to Government, Barrister Chris Ezem, Chief of Staff to the Governor, Chief Okey Ahiwe, members of the State House of Assembly, Commissioners, Executive Chairman of Osisioma Ngwa LGA, Hon Christian Kamalu , PDP Candidate for Osisioma/Obingwa/Ugwunagbo Federal Constituency, Chinwe Nwanganga, State PDP Chairman, Rt. Hon. Asiforo Okere and party chieftains, Judges of the State High Court, l among others while the funeral service was presided over by the Bishop of the Diocese of Aba Ngwa North, Rt. Rev. Nathan Kanu .

The presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu has called on Nigerians to reject the Peoples Democratic Party and its presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar.

Tinubu made the call on Saturday during a rally in Lagos.

He asked Nigerians not to allow the Peoples Democratic Party near the country’s resources again because the party mismanaged the opportunity it had when it was in charge of the country for 16 years.

The PDP Presidential Campaign Council in a swift response asked Tinubu to go and attend to his health first rather than attacking the party.

Tinubu, who spoke during a campaign rally at the Teslim Balogun Stadium, Surulere, Lagos, promised to bring to bear progressive governance in education, health care and employment generation if elected as the next president.

He took a swipe at the PDP presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, describing him as a veteran aspirant who should go home and rest.

He said, “Atiku contested in the Social Democratic Party, he contested in PDP; he contested in (the defunct) Action Congress of Nigeria when we rescued him from Obasanjo. Now he is contesting again in PDP. He should go home and rest.

“Atiku has been running. Use your PVC (permanent voter cards) to vote him and his party out. Use your votes to retire him permanently this time. He thanked the President Muhammadu Buhari, for his commitment to the development of Nigeria and Lagos State.

He also asked Lagos residents to re-elect Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu as the governor of the state. “Dear Lagosians, my appeal to you today is to ask you to renew the mandate of Babajide Sanwo-Olu and Kadiri Obafemi Hamzat for another four years. Do not let the execution and implementation of the bold vision of more than two decades be aborted or suspended.”

Those at the rally included the party’s National Chairman, Senator Abdullahi Adamu, Speaker of the House of Representatives, Mr Femi Gbajabiamila, the party’s vice presidential candidate, Senator Kashim Shettima, Chairman, Progressives Governors’ Forum and Governor of Kebbi, Atiku Bagudu, the director-general of the campaign council and Governor of Plateau State, Simon Lalong.

Also present were Governors Abdullahi Ganduje of Kano State; Aminu Masari of Katsina State; Dapo Abiodun of Ogun State; Abubakar Badaru of Jigawa State; AbdulRahman AbdulRasaq of Kwara State; Abiodun Oyebanji of Ekiti State; the outgoing governor of Osun State, Adegboyega Oyetola; and former Ekiti governor, Kayode Fayemi. The Minister of Works and Housing, Babatunde Fashola (SAN), and his counterpart in the Ministry of Sports and Youth Development, Sunday Dare, were also present.
