Ahead of the 2023 general election, the presidential candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), Adewole Adebayo, has said that his party “will never work with” the All Progressives Congress (APC), the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), or Peter Obi’s Labour Party.

POLITICS NIGERIA reports that addressing his loyalists during the flag-off of the presidential and governorship campaigns at the Ake palace ground in Abeokuta on Saturday, Adebayo described the leading political parties and their candidates, Bola Tinubu (APC) and Atiku Abubakar (PDP), as confused.

The lawyer admitted that some candidates may step down for one another, but, shut out alliances with other presidential candidates.

“You can take this to the bank, we will never work with APC or PDP,” Adebayo said.

“Nobody who loves Nigeria at this time will want those people the way they looked confused, to come back at all. APC is a confused party.

“And I am not saying it as an insult, they are confused. They are in power and they are saying they are going to change the government when they are in power.

“PDP will never repent. God doesn’t mind sinners, but the job of sinners is to repent.

“If you were in government for 16 years and you have been out of federal power for eight years, and you are still sluggish as before, as fraudulent as before, as deceptive before, as comical as before, then you never change.”

He added: “Let me make it very clear, when I mentioned APC and PDP, it includes Peter Obi because he still PDP. He is just borrowing Labour Party for one week.”

Ondo State governor, Rotimi Akeredolu, has said there is no cause for alarm over his health.

POLITICS NIGERIA reports that Betty, the Ondo State First Lady, had in a leaked audio attacked Bunmi Ademosu, Special Adviser on Public and Inter-Governmental Relations to Governor, to stop giving her husband concoction to drink.

Sources in Ondo said the governor has been battling an undisclosed ailment which is very serious.

But in a statement on Tuesday through his Chief Press Secretary (CPS), Richard Olatunde, the governor allayed fears over his health, even though he admitted that he had some health challenges — just like every other mortal but he had received treatment and recovering speedily.

“Mr. Governor is not faced with any life-threatening illness that would have encouraged any alleged conspiracy in his administration.

“While we appreciate the growing concerns about his wellbeing and indeed, appreciate the outpour of prayers even beyond partisan lines, we urge all persons of goodwill to ignore unfounded insinuations capable of creating any false sense of needless anxiety.

“The Governor will continue to discharge his official duties to the good people of Ondo State in line with the REDEEMED Agenda of his administration while he finds quality time to rest for renewed vigour and strength just like any man in his situation,” the statement partly reads.

A twin explosion on Thursday afternoon left three persons injured at a rally of the All Progressives Congress (APC) at the Rumu-Woji Playground, Port Harcourt, Rivers State.

POLITICS NIGERIA learned that no fewer than three persons, mostly women, were injured in the incident that occurred. Those hurt have been rushed to the hospital for medical attention.

The cause of the explosion was sketchy as of the time of publishing this report.

A source said: “The explosion came with a loud bang and some persons were injured.”

“The party officials had altercation with the youths of the community over access to the venue of the rally before the explosion occurred.”

The Publicity Secretary of the APC, Darlington Nwauju, confirmed the incident, describing it as ‘unfortunate’.

Efforts to get comments from the Police spokesperson in the state, Iringe-Koko, were unsuccessful.

President Muhammadu Buhari on Thursday met with the embattled Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Governor, Godwin Emefiele, at the State House, Abuja.

POLITICS NIGERIA reports that the meeting is Emefiele’s second meeting with the President since he returned to the country earlier this month.

Earlier on Thursday, the embattled CBN chief was part of a delegation of the Arab Bank for Economic Development led by its Director General (DG), Dr Sidi Ould Tah.

Recall that Emefiele, who went on leave before last Christmas, has been in the news as it emerged that the Department of State Services (DSS) tried to arrest him in December 2022.

His leave expired on Sunday, January 15.

He spent the first part of his leave in the US and was in the United Kingdom (UK) until Sunday evening from where he flew back to Nigeria and arrived at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, on Monday morning.

The DSS had approached a federal high court in Abuja seeking a warrant to arrest him over allegations that he was involved in terrorism financing and economic crimes.

In declining the motion ex parte — usually filed by an applicant in the absence of the respondent — Justice JT Tsoho, the chief judge, said the secret police did not provide any concrete evidence to substantiate its claims.

There were suggestions that the bid to arrest Emefiele might be political given the impact the redesign of the naira and limit on cash withdrawals might have on vote-buying in the 2023 elections.

A group of civil society organisations raised the alarm that there was a plot to frame Emefiele for terrorism and remove him from office.

However, the DSS swiftly warned against anyone being used to “undermine” its investigations, although it did not specifically name Emefiele.

A former member of Dunamis International Gospel Center, who identified himself as Chukwudiaso Onyema has made a public video addressing senior pastor of the church, Pastor Paul Enenche. The aggrieved former worshipper stated that having dealt with financial hardship and other failed investments, he realised that the had investments in the Kingdom of God, hence, his appeal to pastor Enenche for a refund of all of the kingdom investments poured into the church.

The former member of Dunamis International Gospel Center further declared that he had gone through all of his prior investments in the church by perusing his booklet titled "Kingdom Investments" and discovered that he had a worthwhile investment in the church since he joined the congregation in the year 2008. Chukwudiaso Onyema appealed to Pastor Enenche to return all of his investments as he was no longer interested in that kingdom and did not wish to perish from starvation.  The aggrieved former member of Dunamis went on to frantically implore a refund while stating that he had made up his mind to go to hell.

The Lagos State Ministry of Education has ordered the temporary closure of Chrisland School, Opebi-Ikeja, following the death of a student Whytney Adeyemi.

Adeniran was reported to have died on Thursday during the school’s inter-house sports activities at Agege Stadium, Lagos State.

A statement signed by the Lagos State Commissioner for Education, Mrs. Folasade Adefisayo said the closure was ordered pending the outcome of a full investigation into the unfortunate incident.

Mrs. Adefisayo, on behalf of the Lagos State Ministry of Education, commiserated with Mr. and Mrs. Adeyemi, the parents of Whitney, and prayed for the repose of her soul.

“We also note the impact of this unfortunate event on family, friends and acquaintance of Whytney and call for calm as we assure that no effort will be spared in investigating the incident”, the Commissioner stated.

Recall that a Chrisland school administrator is currently serving a 60-year jail term for raping a 3-year-old child.

Meanwhile, Chrisland School is the same school that was in the Dubai sex tape saga.

Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Godwin Emefiele on Tuesday, said Point of Sale (POS) agents who charge above N200 for the apex bank cash swap programme will be arrested and jailed when caught.

Godwin Emefiele stated this during a visit to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, to discuss the monetary and currency redesign policy of the bank.

Godwin Emefiele said, “The situation is substantially calming down since the commencement of over-the-counter payments to complement ATM disbursements and the use of super-agents.

“There is, therefore, no need to consider any shift from the deadline of February 10.”

Recall that the Supreme Court had stopped the Federal Government from implementing the February 10 deadline for the currency swap.

Led by Justice John Okoro, the seven-man panel of the apex court, in its unanimous ruling, granted an interim injunction restraining the Federal Government, the Central Bank of Nigeria, and commercial banks from implementing the Friday terminal date for the old naira notes.

Also, the International Monetary Fund, a few days ago, counselled the CBN to extend the February 10 deadline for swapping old naira notes with the redesigned ones.

The IMF gave the counsel in the wake of the challenges faced by Nigerians across the country over the banknote swap process.

The IMF said in a statement, “In light of hardships caused by disruptions to trade and payments due to the shortage of new banknotes available to the public, in spite of measures introduced by the CBN to mitigate the challenges in the banknote swap process, the IMF encourages the CBN to consider extending the deadline, should problems persist in the next few days leading up to the February 10, 2023 deadline.”

In other news, Kanyi Daily reported that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, on Tuesday, raised the alarm about the activities of an amorphous group of so-called Civil Society Organizations who have recently embarked on a campaign of street protests, calling for the removal of the Chairman of the EFCC, Abdulrasheed Bawa.

Speaking at a press briefing in Abuja, the EFCC Spokesman, Wilson Uwujaren, said the activities of the group were aimed at discrediting the EFCC Chairman and inciting the public against the commission.
