According to him, there are prevailing signs that the END TIME is near. He said, the signs are everywhere as we are now experiencing so many awkward things like the Bobrisky Syndrome of Gay and Lesbianism, Boko Haram, Badoo incessant killings, Lagos Island Flood among others.

At the end of sermon, the only thought rolling on my mind is “How To Make Heaven” because heaven is a beautiful place and I cannot come and burn fire oo!

The Nigerian government has stated that no one would be left out in the campaign to enlarge the tax revenue.

She said some beggars were earning millions and that “proceeds from begging are taxable. You are supposed to pay taxes even if your means of income is begging”.

Minister of Finance, Mrs. Kemi Adeosun said this in Lagos at a lecture at PWC’s Business School, with the theme: ‘Voluntary Assets and Income Declaration Scheme (VAIDS) Interactive Session for Executives and Business Owners.’

She said to ascertain the income status of the companies/individuals and their lifestyle, investigators would rely on information derived from Bank Verification Number (BVN), records of property ownership, records of foreign exchange allocation, and records of company ownership from the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC), among others.

Adeosun said:
“We are using some firms to trace assets internationally.The investigators’ findings will enable us to compare the income and how much tax the company/person is really paying, and that gives us lots of information.
“But we encourage people to come up and pay their taxes willingly. You can register a high-end car. It tells me something about your income.
“So, we look at your tax returns. If you registered Mercedes E-Class and you are paying N100,000 tax, then something is wrong. Those are red flags. We now have the capacity to assess people accurately.
“We are trying to build an economy where we have oil and other things. It is going to be oil plus and wider economy”.

The German does not appear to trust home-based keeper Ikechukwu Ezenwa, while Dele Alampasu is deemed not experienced enough for big matches.

Kanu says Nigeria needs “world class” Enyeama “badly”.

“As it is now we need Vincent badly. In my opinion, Enyeama should come back immediately,” the two-time African Player of the Year told KweséESPN.

“Whoever is close enough to reach him should tell him to start coming back.

“Enyeama is very very good. He is one of the best players in Africa, and one of the best in the world. Let the federation look into it and do everything they can to bring him back.

“If Enyeama says he doesn’t want to come, people like us can talk to him, the federation too can talk to him. If a lot of people talk to him, I’m sure that definitely he will change his mind.

“And not just Enyeama, let us look at some of the other active goalkeepers too. If we have like four goalkeepers there training, there will be competition and the coach can have more options to make his decision.”

An Israeli-Christian man is accused of stabbing his teenage daughter to death because, authorities say, he didn’t approve of her relationship with a Muslim man.

Prosecutors say Sami Karra, 58, killed his daughter in their family home in the central Israeli town of Ramle, a day after she graduated from high school.

According to a criminal indictment filed in Israeli district court this week,the daughter, 17-year-old Henriette Karra, was in a relationship with a Muslim man, against the urging of her parents.

In late May, Henriette left the family home after threats and abuse from her parents.She stayed with her boyfriend’s mother for part of the time.
Henriette’s family tried to bring her back home – using threats against her and her boyfriend’s mother to put pressure on her to return, the indictment says.

The boyfriend’s mother, called police to intervene on Karra’s behalf. But the teenage girl refused police help, and she refused to go home.

The next month, while Henriette was staying at a friend’s house, her father came to the house and began threatening her and slapping her, the indictment says.

“Just like I sat in jail, I am ready to sit in jail my entire life, I don’t care,” Karra allegedly yelled at his daughter.

After a joint meeting with a social worker, Henriette returned home two days later. She celebrated her high school graduation at a party on June 12.

But the next morning, she went to the post office to mail $100 to her boyfriend. He was in jail for an unspecified charge and was scheduled to be released at the end of the week.

When she returned home, Henriette told a family member she was ready to convert to Islam.

The family member told Henriette’s father. Upon hearing the news, according to the indictment, Karra went home, picked up a knife, and stabbed his daughter three times, killing her.
Karra was arrested later that day.

An Aba-la-Ohazu Customary Court in Aba South Local Government Area of Abia has dissolved the marriage between one Juliet Igwe and her husband, Chibuzo, over abandonment and irreconcilable differences.

Juliet, the petitioner, told the court that her husband abandoned her after only two weeks of marriage and went back to Gabon where he resides.

She told the court that her husband took her to his home town and after two weeks of co-habiting asked her to go back to her father’s house and engage in a vocation.

Juliet said that her father rejected the idea and reported her husband to his foster father, one Pastor S.K. Ogbonna, who took her in.

The foster father, he added, later asked her to return to her father’s house since her husband was no longer interested in the union.

Juliet said that they married on Dec. 29, 2015 under the native custom and tradition in Akpugo, Nkanu West Local Government Area of Enugu State.

She also told the court that since the second week of January 2016 when her husband abandoned her, he had not shown concern for her in spite of being told she was pregnant.

Juliet prayed the court to dissolve the marriage and grant her continued custody of her 10- month-old child pending when he would come of age.

Although Juliet was present in court without a lawyer, Chibuzo was absent and had no legal representation.

Giving his ruling, Senior Magistrate, Diamond Olewengwa, said Chibuzo’s refusal to stop the planned dissolution indicated that the parties had consented to sever the union.

He said that the marriage, having broken down irretrievably as a result of lack of love and care, denial of sex, irreconcilable differences and abandonment, stood dissolved.

He granted Juliet the continued custody of their son until maturity, adding that Chibuzo had the right to see his son whenever he wished.

The judge also ordered Chibuzo to collect his N50.00 bride price through the court registrar and to pay Juliet N30,000 monthly as upkeep allowance for their child.

Olewengwa further ordered him to pay Juliet N200, 000 in bulk for nursing the baby from birth till date since he never offered support since the marriage was contracted.

He said that the parties were free to remarry and enjoined them to maintain the peace.

The ruling of the court, he added, should be communicated to the foster father of Chibuzo to ensure compliance with the judgment.

Singer, songwriter and record producer The Dream on Monday, announced that he and his wife LaLonne Nash are expecting their eighth baby in a sweet Instagram post.

This will be the singer’s eighth child, and the couple’s third together as The Dream has three children with his former wife Nivea, a daughter with his ex-wife Christina Milian and a son with Lydia Nam.

LaLonne made the announcement on Instagram with a photo of the dream caressing her baby bump and giving her a kiss on the cheek captioning it “Welcoming a new baby to the Nash familia. #35 weeks and counting.”

The Federal Inland Revenue Service on Friday continued its crackdown on tax-defaulting companies in Abuja.

The FIRS enforcement team, led by Zubairu Usman, sealed off the offices of Dayak Nigeria Limited, located at Idu Industrial Layout in Area One part of the city, according to a statement.

The company allegedly has a Value Added Tax liability of N41,535,829.47 owed between 2013 and 2016.

However, R.T Communications, with an alleged tax liability of N106,408,475.00, could not be located at its registered address.

Ceezali Limited, located at Thaba Tseka Street, which was thought to owe N14,603,941.00, presented evidence of payment and was not sealed.

Earlier in the week, the FIRS had shut Ace Products and Services Limited located at 20, Sanni Ashimu Close, Ologun Bus stop, Awoyaya, Lagos, over an alleged tax debt of N157.562m.

On Tuesday, the team sealed off Finchglow Travels Agency at 25, Ademola Street, Ikoyi, Lagos, over an alleged tax debt of N30.553m. Other firms sealed include Westcom Technologies at 18 A, Onikepo Akande Street, Lekki Phase I, Lagos, which reportedly owed N25.978m; and Globasure Technologies Limited at Plot 10B2, Lekki Phase I, Lagos, which was also said to owe N34.572m in tax debt.

On Monday, four companies in Lagos and Port Harcourt were shut over their alleged failure to meet their tax obligations totalling N630m.

The affected firms include Charcoal and Spices Restaurant Limited, GRA, Port Harcourt; and Cioscon Nigerian Limited of 14 Aba Road, Port Harcourt.

The leader of the FIRS enforcement team, Mrs. Anita Erinne, sealed both companies after showing a warrant to officials of the firms.

Charcoal and Spices Restaurant Limited allegedly owed N12,388,979.50, while Cioscon Nigerian Limited was said to have a tax liability of N479,203,464.43 from 2014 to 2016, which it had allegedly failed to remit.

Erinne told the defaulting firms that their premises would be unsealed when they cleared their outstanding tax bills.

The Imo State Police Command has apprehended a 19-year old girl, Chidimma Nwoke and a 40-year-old bus driver with Peace Mass Transport Company, Samuel Nkemjika for allegedly taking part in kidnapping and armed robbery activities.

The state commissioner of police, Chris Ezike told our correspondent that the bus driver, an indigene of Bende Local Government Area in Abia State who used his bus in abducting his victims was arrested in Onitsha, Anambra State.

Nkemjika who confessed to the crime, said he got N200,000 from the N2m ransom which his gang made from their kidnap operations .

In another development, 19-year-old girl, Nwoke, a native of Umuaka in Njaba Local Government Area of the state was nabbed by the operatives of the command together with her two male gang members .

Ezike disclosed that the gang was notorious and specialised in robbing motorcyclists and traders at gun point.

Ezike said that luck ran against the gang when they robbed a victim which forced the police to swing into action and arrested the three-man gang, immediately.

He said that the two motorcycles which the gang used in robbing their victims, one locally made shot gun with three live cartridges were recovered as exhibits from the gang.

Ezike asserted that his command had tightened all loopholes, adding that the major reshuffle he made at the command recently was yielding positive results.

The female robber said that she had got N45,000 from her gang in five operations.

The Osun State Government has expressed shock over the suit filed by the joint unions of the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH) to stop the auditing of the university’s accounts, as recommended by the visitation panel set up to investigate and find lasting solution to the crisis that has crippled the institution, saying LAUTECH operates 97 different accounts.

The government called on parents, students and other stakeholders to prevail and plead with the unions to stop frustrating sincere steps of owner governments to get LAUTECH back on track, saying it was not happy and uncomfortable with the prolonged strike that has kept the Nigeria’s future leaders at home.

Osun State Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Mr. Adelani Baderinwa, in a press statement on Sunday, said the state government found it shocking, unheard of and counter-productive, the suit filed by the unions at the Oyo State High Court.

Baderinwa explained that the auditing of the LAUTECH, Ogbomoso accounts was recommended by the Chief Wole Olanipekun (SAN) led visitation panel, and the two owner states had appointed a reputable accounting firm, KPMG firm to do the job.

He added that the LAUTECH unions, apart from chasing out the KPMG workers in the university, have persistently been working against the recommendation of the Olanipekun panel, except where the owner states are asked to raise fund.

The commissioner who noted that the owner states eager to resolve issues involved in the institution’s crisis urged the unions to be sincere and support the owner states in their bid to get the school back on track, describing the suit by the unions as unpatriotic and ill-conceived.

According to Baderinwa, contrary to submission by the unions, the owner states have effective contractual agreement with KPMG on the forensic auditing job.

He also explained that, contrary to Nigeria Senate’s assumption, there is no crisis as to the ownership of LAUTECH, maintaining that the Supreme Court has clearly stated the owners as Osun and Oyo states according to a 2012 judgment of the apex court.

Baderinwa said: “The last time LAUTECH accounts were audited was in 2012, and a sum of N400 million was in question then. LAUTECH has 97 different accounts at this time of Treasury Single Account policy. The Wole Olanipekun panel recommended auditing of the university’s accounts as a way to address the crisis holistically.

“The Osun and Oyo states entered into effective contractual agreement with KPMG, a reputable auditing firm. KPMG workers were harassed and chased out of the university by the unions. The unions have also gone to court to stop the forensic auditing as directed by the visitor of the institution.

“It worths noting that the two owner states have committed a total sum of N13.626Billion to the University since 2011 aside over N10 Billion that has come to the University as TETFUND and NEEDS as well as over N12 Billion declared as IGR for about 5 years now and we deserve every right to find out the way the money was spent.

“We wonder what the unions stand to gain by approaching court to stop the auditing. Do they have something to hide? How could they militate against a genuine and transparent move to get LAUTECH out of the unpleasant situation?

We make bold to say that the unions’ action is unbecoming of a group of academicians and patriotic workers of the university. We appeal to them to give peace a chance”

Information experts across the country have expressed concern over the use of social media in the promotion of hate speeches, warning that the social media may mar the 2019 elections.

To check the trend, they have recommended that “stringent measures should be used in checking conventional media and their programmes.”

The resolution and others are contained in a communiqué issued by information managers in the country at the end of their extraordinary meeting with the theme, ‘Hate speeches, fake news and national unity’; held in Jos and organised by the National Council on Information, an agency of the Federal Ministry of Information.

The communique was signed by the NCI Chairman in the Federal Ministry of Information, Abdulyekin Umar, and representatives from the six geopolitical zones and obtained by THE PUNCH on Monday in Jos.

The signatories are Donatus Okpe, Kogi State (North-Central); Lawal Ibrahim, Kano State (North West); Tajudeen Sokunbi, Ogun State (South-West); Ifeanyi Agbai, Abia State  (South-East); Ibrahim Buba, Adamawa State (North-East) and Paulinus Nsirim, Rivers State (South-South).

The communique partly read, “The social media may take over the 2019 elections because Nigerian people have come to rely more and believe the social media over the conventional media. It will be better to kill quickly whatever postings on social media assumed or presumed to be hate speeches or fake news or misinformation by the information managers in various states. We are suggesting the setting up of a council to regulate the use of social media in Nigeria.

“The federal and state ministries of information should use jingles to promote peace and also come up with cartoons on the television and newspapers telling us the dangers of fake news and hate speeches.

“The collaboration must start with the National Orientation Agency and the state governments. There is also the need to start talking to those responsible for law and enforcement of justice to address the issue of citizens taking the laws into their own hands,” it read.
