Barcelona‘s sporting director Robert Fernandez is confident first-team stars Lionel Messi and Andres Iniesta will sign new contracts at the club.

Barca announced a new deal for Messi during the summer but it later transpired that the Argentinian has not yet actually put pen to paper. Meanwhile Iniesta, whose current deal also expires in 2018 like Messi, has not yet agreed a new contract.

However, Fernandez believes both players will prolong their careers at the Camp Nou.

When asked about Messi’s contract renewal, he told Movistar: “I point to our president’s words. [The signing] is an act which could happen at any moment. I hope it’s soon.” Speaking about Iniesta’s situation, he stated: “What we want is that Andres is here for many more years and that he ends his career here. I’m convinced that will happen.”

A 63 year old woman, Halimah Yacob has been declared Singapore’s eighth president on Wednesday after a “walkover” election that saw no vote after no other contenders ran for the position.Yacob, had been the only candidate deemed eligible to stand in the country’s Elections Department, having held a key public position as speaker of parliament for three years.

The other two contenders, Salleh Marican and Farid Khan, were both denied eligibility, having fallen short of a constitutional rule that required any candidate from the private sector to have led a company with shareholder equity of at least 500 million Singapore dollars (372 million dollars).

Following the announcement, Yacob thanked her supporters in a speech, calling it a “a proud moment for Singapore, for multiculturalism and multi-racialism.”

Yacob is Singapore’s first Malay president in 47 years and the first woman to occupy the president’s office.

Ever since the release of Android O Developer Preview 3, there have been speculations regarding whether Google would finally be bringing a native Always On Display mode to its OS. Unfortunately, among the myriad of exciting features that Android 8.0 Oreo brought – including Project Treble, Notification Dots, and a revamped notification bar – AOD was nowhere to be found. Well, it turns out, Android Oreo actually retains its support for AOD; it’s just tucked away and disabled for now.

According to XDA-Developers, if your phone is rooted and running on an Android Oreo ROM, you can make a simple modification to the commit found under “AmbientDisplayConfiguration.java.” Essentially, the AOD feature is there but is hard-coded to be not visible within settings because it “does not work properly yet.” Once you change the “false” to “true,” however, you should see the option to enable Always On Ambient Display inside System UI Tuner. There are multiple unofficial ports available on XDA-Developers, some of which have this enabled already.

It is possible that Google is still in the process of adding some final touches to the feature, and it is possible that it will never see the light of the day. However, what’s more likely to happen is that Google will officially announce Always On Ambient Display when it takes the wraps off the Pixel 2 duo this fall. After all, just like first-generation Pixel phones, this year’s flagships from the search giant are expected to sport OLED-based screens, and with more and more OEMs offering AOD, it only seems logical that Google will follow suit.

The National Examination Council (NECO) has announced the release of the 2017 June/July Senior School Certificate Examination results.

The Registrar of the council, Prof. Charles Uwakwe, who announced the results in Minna on Thursday, said that 1,055,988 candidates registered for the examination, among which 1,051,472 wrote the tests in 76 subjects.

Uwakwe further said that 745,053 candidates, representing 70.85 per cent had five credits and above, including English Language and mathematics, in the examination.

The Registrar said the performance represented 1.11 per cent improvement in candidates’ performance compared with the 2016 results.

He said that 947,850 candidates had five credits and above irrespective of English Language and mathematics, adding that the figure represented 1.63 per cent improvement of the 2016 result.

He also said that 903,690 candidates had credit in English Language, while 849,335 candidates had credit in General Mathematics.

He explained that 50,586 candidates, representing 4.81 per cent of candidates, were involved in examination malpractice.

Uwakwe said the figure represented 0.52 per cent increase in cases of malpractice compared to the 2016 record.

He said that 276 schools were involved in mass cheating in 34 states, while six schools were derecognised for examination malpractice.

Uwakwe explained that 23 supervisors who aided malpractice one way or another were blacklisted.

NAN reports that he advised the candidates to access their results on NECO website www.mynecoexams.com.

This being a Sonic game, it’s not a surprise that you can play as various characters from the universe, including Sonic, Tails, Amy, Knuckles, Shadow, E-123 Omega, and more. Interestingly, in-game files show that Silver, Classic Sonic, Chaos, and others will eventually be added as playable characters sometime down the road. Odds are that it will be available around the same time that Sonic Forces hits consoles and PC on November 7.

England Female Coach Mark Sampson has been sacked by the Football Association after the chief executive, Martin Glenn, became aware of the “full detail” of inappropriate relations the England manager had with female players while he was manager of Bristol Academy.

A 2015 FA safeguarding assessment found Sampson did not pose a risk then when the investigation was first conducted

Sampson was deemed fit to continue as England manager after the FA carried out a safeguarding investigation when the allegations were first made in March 2014. Glenn, who joined the governing body 12 months later, insists he was first told of the investigation in October 2015 and read the full report for the first time only last week when someone from outside the FA advised him to do so.

Sampson was also cleared this year of wrongdoing following discrimination allegations made by England players.

The 34-year-old has been at the centre of discrimination allegations made by Chelsea Ladies and England striker Eniola Aluko. Sampson denied the allegations and was cleared by an internal FA review and an independent investigation led by barrister Katharine Newton QC.

The 34-year-old Welshman became England head coach in December 2013 after leaving his role as manager of top-flight side Bristol Academy, now renamed Bristol City Women.

The FA said safeguarding allegations were made a year later and it was found he did not pose a risk, but “the full report of that investigation was only brought to the attention of the current FA leadership last week”.

The statement added: “It is our judgement that it revealed clear evidence of inappropriate and unacceptable behaviour by a coach. It is on this basis that we have acted quickly to agree a termination of Mark’s contract.”

Minister for Sport Tracey Crouch said: “This situation is a mess and raises very serious questions about whether the historic processes that the FA had in place around the recruitment of coaches were appropriate, for something like this to have been missed. The FA are right to have taken action but reassurance is needed to make sure this does not happen again at any level of coaching.”

Sampson’s England side beat Russia 6-0 in a World Cup qualifier on Tuesday and he led the Lionesses to successive semi-finals at major tournaments.

A 16 year old boy has died, days after passing his Post UTME to study Medicine and Surgery at the University of Ilorin. In a mail sent to SDK, his relative wrote: ”The person in subject was a close relation of mine, his name was Mubarak Razak by name and 16 years. .

He applied for Medicine and Surgery at University of Ilorin after being denied admission last year when he applied for Anatomy scoring 206 in UTME, immediately after graduating in a private secondary school in Ilorin, Kwara state. .

He then struggled to have a better UTME score, 327, this year and passed POST-JAMB excellently scoring 72% when he suddenly died after a brief illness last week Saturday night. .

He was survived by 3 siblings, his father, a civil servant(Mr Razak Owolabi) and Mother,a government school teacher(Mrs Aminat Razak). I just taught I should share this story because to me he left an indelible mark in this world, he was a nice, quiet boy and so young. 16-Year-Old Prospective Medical Student, Dies After Acing UTME And Post UTME.

The All Progressives Congress-led administration in Ogun State, South-western part of Nigeria has set sights on introducing branded rice.

The Ogun government said on Friday it would introduce branded rice into the market before December.

The Special Assistant to the Governor on Agriculture, Mr. Tosin Ademuyiwa, disclosed this to journalists in Abeokuta, the state capital.

Ademuyiwa said rice would be available following massive planting of the commodity during the rainy season.

He said the commodity branded “MITROS Rice” would be produced and packaged in the state. He said the harvesting of 1,500 metric tonnes of rice has commenced in various rice farms at Eggua in Yewa axis and Onigbedu in Ogun Central.

“At Eggua rice farm, rice will be harvested from 262 hectares of farmland while 110 hectares are at Onigbedu rice farm.

“Another 100 hectares of rice farm will be harvested at Iloti Ijebu within the next one month.

“The harvesting of rice will reduce the dependence of the state on imported rice and reduce its price in various markets,” he said.

Ademuyiwa also said the state government was working hard to solve the problems associated with clearing of farmland by making land available for agricultural purpose.
