A Nigerian who recently returned from India has died of the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) in Lagos.

Commissioner for Health in Lagos, Prof. Akin Abayomi, said on Tuesday on Twitter that the 45-year-old man returned from India in January.

“No new case of #COVID19 was confirmed in Lagos on 20th April, 2020,” Abayomi wrote.

“However, #COVID19 related deaths were recorded in Lagos. One of the deceased was a 45-year-old Nigerian; male who returned from India in January 2020.”

The commissioner said the second death involved a 36-year-old Nigerian female with severe underlying health condition.

“She had no history of travel or contact with any #COVID19 confirmed case,” he wrote.

Of the 38 new coronavirus cases announced on Monday night by the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC), Lagos recorded none while Kano recorded the highest with 23.

There are now 665 confirmed COVID-19 cases in Nigeria, 188 discharged and 22 deaths.

Photos Of South African Police Officers Arrested For Drinking Alcohol On Duty

Six South African police officers have been arrested for disregarding the alcohol ban during the lockdown and drinking alcohol while on duty.

According to a report by Africa Facts Zone on who also shared pictures of some of the South African police officers arrested by their colleagues, were part of a group drinking booze at a bar on Sunday April 18, 2020.

In an official statement released on Monday, April 20, the SAPS confirmed that five police officers including a police reservist, working at the Namahadi Police Station in Phuthaditjhaba in the Free State Province were arrested for disregarding the alcohol ban during the lockdown.

SAPS management added that it’s not “proud” but the arrest was necessary.

The bar owner, 44, was also taken into custody for disobeying the regulations on the prohibition of the sale of liquor.

The statement added: “All liquor was seized and the tavern shut down. The police officials will be charged with Defeating the Ends of Justice and failing to enforce and adhere to the National Disaster Management Regulations.”

According to a report by The Nation, a police constable, Chibuike Ukazu, has been beaten to stupor and stripped naked by youths of Umueze community in Orlu Local Government Area of Imo state for allegedly indulging in homosexual acts.

A community source told The Nation on Wednesday that the officer’s sex partner was also stripped naked.

It was learned that they were caught in the act on Tuesday evening, beaten and stripped naked and were taken to the palace of the traditional ruler of the community where they were jeered for practising sodomy.

The source said that packs of condoms were found with the homosexual partners.

The source said: “Two Homosexuals were caught red-handed having annal sex in our village in Community, in Orlu LGA, Imo state. One of them is a Nigerian police officer from Umugboga, Amike, Orlu LGA, who stays at checkpoint, at Mgbabano, Nkwerre LGA, Imo state. He is married. The other one is a son to one photographer named Emesco. Both of them are from Orlu LGA.

“This particular police officer together with his colleagues chased a man driving with his car and threatened to shoot him if he moved any further. After discussions, they took bribe of N5000 from him and left. But This evening (Tuesday), he was caught having sex with his fellow man.

“They were caught red-handed by security men of Umueze Autonomous community, Orlu, after tracing them to where they had the sex”.

Another source, who is a member of the village vigilante, said, “Immediately we entered the house, the police officer took down his trouser and pulled off his shirts, bend over and the yellow guy, started having annal sex with him. Immediately our men broke in and arrested them and took them down to the community hall.

“Items recovered from them are three sachets of condoms of different brands and the police officer’s identity card.”

Confirming the incident, the police spokesperson in the state, Orlando Ikeokwu said ” On April 21, upon information received through a phone call, the Divisional Police officer in charge of Nkwere Division promptly moved into Umueze autonomous community in Orlu LGA, and rescued one F/NO.512351 Chibuike Ukazu.

“Preliminary investigation revealed that the youths of the community claimed to have caught the constable with one of his friends, name yet unknown but nicknamed ‘YELLOW’, in acts of homosexuality. As a result, the youths pounced on them and beat them to stupor, then took them to the palace of the traditional ruler before their rescue by the DPO and his team.

“The command, therefore, wishes to warn members of the public to desist from taking laws into their hand by resorting to self-help especially on infractions by the members of the Police or other security agencies, all are advised to report all grievances to the nearest Police station for prompt and decisive action.

“However, investigation into the matter has commenced with a view to unravel what actually transpired and if found culpable will face the wrath of the law.”

A sad incident has sent residents into mourning as a yet-to-identified boy allegedly drowned at Jabi Lake in Abuja.

According to eyewitness reports, the incident happened after a boat mishap on Saturday. The deceased was said to be without his life jacket.

Some local fishermen were later called to help search for him. His lifeless body was eventually retrieved after several hours.

A Nigerian man who recently tested positive for Coronavirus and is receiving treatment in a UK hospital, has appealed to Nigerians to take the pandemic seriously and follow all guidelines issued by the government to curtail the spread of the dreaded disease.

In a post shared on Twitter, the Nigerian man said this is not the time to bash the President for the lockdown order as everything is being done for the betterment of everyone.

''Nigerians this is not the time to bash the president @MBuhari  on lockdown. Everything the government is doing is for the betterment of every citizen in the country. For the past 13 days I have not known food and my main concern is to survive this deadly virus.

There have now been more than one million confirmed coronavirus cases in the United States, according to data from Johns Hopkins University. More than 56,000 have died from COVID-19-related complications.

The first known U.S. case of COVID-19 was reported on January 21. On April 10, there were more than 500,000 cases, the New York Times reported.

Some reports said the true number of infections may be much higher. The one million figure does not include untold thousands of Americans who contracted the virus but were not tested, either because they did not show symptoms or because of a persistent national testing shortage.

Some disease researchers have estimated that the true number of infections may be somewhere around 10 times the known number, and preliminary testing of how many people have antibodies to the virus seems to support that view.

But as the country’s death toll, now more than 56,000, continues to grow and as the pandemic’s economic fallout continues to mount, the one million case benchmark helped show the scale of human suffering that the virus has wrought.

Roughly one in every 330 people in the United States has now tested positive for the virus. And even as the virus has showed signs of retreating in some hard-hit places, including Seattle and New Orleans, other parts of the country, including Chicago and Los Angeles, continued to report persistently high numbers of new infections. More than 1,300 new cases were announced on Monday alone in Cook County, Illinois, along with nearly 1,000 in Los Angeles County.

Though the country’s urban centres were hit worst early in the pandemic, parts of rural America are now experiencing the most alarming rates of growth. Many of those outbreaks have been tied to outbreaks at meatpacking plants or other workplaces.

The former housemate of Nigeria’s biggest reality TV show, Big Brother Naija, said she was debited 12 times in less than 24 hours.

Although she didn’t mention the name of the bank or whether she made transactions on her account.

“What’s with the unnecessary bank charges..? I’ve been debited 12X in less than 24hrs. I seriously do not get this, and to be honest, I am taking a piss!!,” Tacha wrote on Twitter.

However, Tacha’s allegation was corroborated by the comments of her fans.

One of the comments read: “I thought I was the only one.”

Another stated: “Me too… I’ve been debited lotta times, I don’t understand.”

A new study suggests that men who have recovered from Coronavirus should be advised to abstain from sex in order to avoid passing the virus on via their semen.

Patients in China who donated samples several days after their virus symptoms had faded were found to show evidence of Covid-19, Telegraph.co.uk reports.

The findings have left scientists worried that the deadly disease could be sexually transmitted, raising the prospect of health chiefs advising people to avoid having sex for a set time after the end of their symptoms.

One of the patients in the study, at Shangqui Municipal Hospital in Henan Province, tested positive for Covid-19 in his semen 16 days after coming down with the virus and three days after clinical recovery.

“Abstinence or condom use might be considered as preventative means for these patients,” the study, published in the Journal of the American Medical Association, said.

The research team said Covid-19 could be seeded to the male reproductive tract, especially where there is local inflammation.

“Even if the virus cannot replicate in the male reproductive system it may persist, possibly resulting from the privileged immunity of testes,” they said.

Other experts have pointed out that the study, comprising 38 patients, is relatively small, and that only six of these patients had tested positive for the virus in their semen. Until now, researchers had previously found only 27 viruses in human semen.

It is not known whether the presence of Covid-19 in the testes affects men’s reproductive capability.

Professor Richard Sharpe, from the MRC Centre for Reproductive Health at the University of Edinburgh, said: “As the authors point out, this finding raises the possibility that Covid-19 might also be transmissible via semen – and thus via sexual contact – perhaps including during the recovery phase, which would have disease management implications.

“Whilst this is a small study, that leaves many important questions unanswered – how long after Covid-19 infection does detectable virus persist in semen in those with a semen-positive result?

“It suggests that obtaining answers to such questions should be an additional priority considering our global need to understand the dynamics of person-to-person transmission of Covid-19.”

Initially, public health officials warned people not to have sex if they have symptoms of coronavirus, but this was to avoid transmission via droplets coming out of infected people’s noses and mouths and entering bodies of other people via their mouths, noses or eyes.

However,  the result of the new research has led officials to believe that the virus could also be transmitted via the semen.

Allan Pacey, a professor of andrology at the University of Sheffield, said: “This is an interesting paper that shows that RNA for the virus responsible for Covid-19 can be detected in the semen of a proportion – 15.8 per cent – of men with a confirmed infection.

“This opens up the possibility that one route of infection may be through sexual contact, although this was not confirmed in the paper.”

Oluwafunmilola Adisa, the 22-year-old lady who drowned her one-year-old daughter, Oluwanifemi, has given reasons for her action.

Adisa, who lived with her older sister in Gowon estate in Lagos, reported herself to the police on May 11 after she drowned her own child.

In a video interview with Punch, Adisa gave a vivid description of how she drowned the little girl.

She also gave reasons for her action. She said she was ashamed of being a single mother. She also said being a single mother affected her education. She added that the fact that the father of her child played no role in her life didn’t help matters.

Police made an arrest on Thursday after a heartbreaking viral video showed a young man punching an elderly patient lying in bed in a nursing home.

Police said in a statement that they are holding a 20-year-old man in connection to the assault and battery of an elderly male at Westwood Nursing Center in the 16500 block of Schaefer on Detroit’s west side.

In the video, the 20-year-old is seen violently punching the 75-year-old man and the young man can be heard telling the victim something about staying out of his bed.

Detroit Police Chief James Craig said the department is investigating the incident that occurred at Westwood Nursing Center on the city’s northwest side.

“What our investigation has revealed so far was the nursing home was unaware of an assault until they saw the video,” Detroit police Chief James Craig said at a news conference Thursday. “We are still investigating that aspect of the case, but we do have a suspect in custody.”

Detroit Police acknowledged that the sharing of the video helped them track down and arrest the suspect. The police thanked the public for alerting them to the video.

“Thank you to everyone for your assistance in bringing the senior home incident to our attention,” the department said on Twitter. “The @detroitpolice is investigating the situation, and an arrest has been made.”

It appears the suspect also posted another video showing the beating of a woman who is confined to a bed. Detroit police say they are aware of that second video and are also investigating that assault.

A lawyer for the Westwood Rehabilitation Nursing Center said the suspect in the May 15 attack on the 75-year-old man was a temporary resident there for rehabilitation and recovery, according to NBC affiliate WDIV.

The victim’s injuries were not thought to be life-threatening, officials said. The suspect’s name was not released.

In a tweet Thursday night, President Donald Trump appeared to reference the attack, expressing concern for the victim.

“Can this be for real? Where is this nursing home, how is the victim doing?” he tweeted.

Hana Kimura, a Japanese professional wrestler who was also a cast member on the most recent season of Netflix’s reality show “Terrace House,” has died at the age of 22.

Stardom Wrestling, the organization Hana was part of confirmed her death in a statement issued on Saturday May 23.

“We are very sorry to report that our Hana Kimura has passed away. Please be respectful and allow some time for things to process, and keep your thoughts and prayers with her family and friends.”

Though the cause of death is not immediately clear, Hana however updated her Instagram story on Friday with a photo of her and her cat. The photo came with a caption that read “goodbye.”

Shortly before she died, the Japanese wrestler shared series of troubling social media posts implying she had been cyber-bullied. She also shared images of self-harm on Twitter along with messages that read:

“I don’t want to be a human anymore. It was a life I wanted to be loved. Thank you everyone, I love you. Bye.”

Hana whose mother is Kyoko Kimura, a well-known wrestler, made her debut at Wrestle-1 in 2016. She won her first title, the JWP Junior Championship later that year. She also wrestled for Stardom during that time, and officially left Wrestle-1 to join Stardom in 2019, where she was the leader of the Tokyo Cyber Squad faction. She won the Artist of Stardom championship twice, in addition to a Goddess of Stardom championship.
