Akwa Ibom: Angry Youths Set Two Thieves Ablaze For Robbing Pregnant Woman by Sindyy(f) : 5:17 am On Jan 23

Akwa Ibom

The crime scene

Angry youths on Tuesday night burnt two thieves to death for allegedly robbing a pregnant woman at Abak road Boulevard, Uyo, Akwa Ibom State capital.

From an eyewitness report, “the incident occurred at about 09:00pm, when the pregnant woman alighted from a motorbike.

“She was immediately surrounded by four armed men who took away her handbag, her (the pregnant woman) screams made the motorcyclist
to return to the scene of the incident and two out of the four men had escaped while the remaining two were apprehended.

Another eyewitness and resident of the area, who pleaded anonymity, said the aggrieved motorcyclist, who immediately alerted others, engaged in a battle with the hoodlums and rescued the woman who had sustained a severe hand injury in the process.

“Luck ran out of two of them when they were overpowered by many men who beat, stoned them with building blocks and locked them up in the same tunnel and set them ablaze.”

Another resident of the area, Mrs Arit Archibong, regretted that the flyover area has been a den of criminals for some years now, adding that about four rape cases were reported within the tunnel in December 2019.

Other residents, who spoke with newsmen, blamed the crime on the blackout and lack of security in the area.

However, the Police Public Relations Officer, Akwa Ibom State Command, SP Odiko Macdon, in reaction, frowned at the jungle justice, stressing that such act has no place in the law.

“It is unfortunate that they were already set ablaze before we got there. Jungle justice has no place in the law. Every accused is innocent until proven guilty by the law.”

The PPRO, who cautioned that the command would no longer tolerate such acts, declared that it was better for nine thieves to be allowed unpunished than for one innocent person to be killed in error.

“We have liaised with the state waste management authority to evacuate the remains while investigations are ongoing to unravel those behind the act,” Macdon said.

The only thing she dislikes about the relationship is that the Reverend Fathers get transfered to other places.

“Ever since I’ve known men, the ones who have made me happy are Reverend Fathers. I only had one boyfriend before I met the first Reverend Father that I had affair with. He was so caring and good in bed but because they get transferred, it cuts the affairs short.

I’ve had affair with 3 different Priests and so far, they are very good in everything. I don’t have intention of dating ordinary guy because they break heart easily and I couldn’t find any guy that would keep me happy and not stress my life. I really want to stop dating Priests but I’m obsessed with them. What do I do?”, she wrote

Judge Warns EFCC To Stop Disobeying The Courts Because Of ‘Orders From Above’ by Sindyy(f) : 8:02 pm On Feb 11

Justice Binta Nyako of a federal high court in Abuja, has warned the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission () to stop “relying on orders from above” before complying with court orders.

Speaking after granting bail to Mohammed Bello Adoke, former attorney-general of the federation (AGF), on Monday, Nyako cautioned the and other government agencies to desist from the habit of saying they are acting on “orders from above because no such orders from above are higher than orders of the court”.

She granted him bail in the same terms and conditions earlier granted him by Abubakar Kutigi, judge of a federal capital territory high court in Gwagwalada, on January 30.

Mike Ozekhome, Adoke’s counsel, prayed the court to issue an order restraining the from rearresting his client.

“My lord, we just want a specific order directing that the defendants should not be rearrested,” Ozekhome said.

Bala Sanga, who is the counsel to the EFCC, however, told the court that the former AGF was yet to perfect the bail conditions.

“The full conditions have not been satisfied. It is not deliberate though. It is more of an oversight between the court officials,” he said.

“Part of the bail conditions was that travelling passports should be deposited with the court. But neither the defence team nor the court has asked for those passports which we know are in our custody.

“The proper thing that should have happened is that the court would have said part of the conditions for bail is that travelling passports deposited with us should be forwarded to the court.

“We knew that glitch was there but, we refused to take advantage of it because, for us, this was just mere technicalities.”

Responding, the judge said: “Mr Sanga, you are very wrong! Are you trying to tell the judge how to write his ruling? Irrespective of where the passports are, they should be deposited with the court. Is it the responsibility of the judge to know that the passports are with you? I will now make an order that the passports that are with you should be deposited with the court.”

Adoke, who has been in custody of the EFCC since December 19, has now been released.

The EFCC had arraigned the former AGF before the court for allegedly receiving gratification to the tune of N300 million from Aliyu Abubakar in September 2013.

Adoke has since denied the allegation, maintaining he is being persecuted for political reasons.

'Alfa I Gave Free Accommodation In My Has Been Sleeping With My 3 Daughters' - Woman Cries Out by Sindyy(f) : 9:47 pm On Feb 12

Woman

File photo

A woman in Lagos on Tuesday shocked an Ikeja Sexual Offences and Domestic Violence Court by revealing that her three daughters, aged 12, nine and seven were serially defiled by a muslim cleric, the family housed free for between seven and eight years.

According to PMnews, the victim’s mother made the revelation while testifying as the second prosecution witness in the trial of Ibrahim Idris, a 26-year-old cleric, charged with defilement.

The mother of six, who is also married to a cleric while being led in evidence by the state counsel, Mr Gbenga Alagbe, told the court that she knew about the alleged defilement from a teacher in the school her daughters were attending.

“In 2017, I received a call from the teacher of the school my children go to for lessons. The teacher told me that one of my daughters told her something and that she wanted me to hear for myself what she said.

“When we got to the office at the school, my oldest daughter (Daughter A) said that Idris slept with her and her younger sisters.

“I was told by the teacher that earlier while Daughter “A” was being interrogated about the allegations, she ran out of the class.

“A woman had seen her and had taken her back into the school and when she saw a male teacher she was scared because Idris was sleeping with her and anytime she sees a male teacher, she becomes withdrawn and scared ,” the mother said.

The mother said following the revelation, she took her children home from the school and her husband who was not around during that period, arrived two days later on Aug. 11, 2017.

She noted that when the father arrived, the defendant was summoned to their residence.

“We asked him about the allegations and he insisted nothing happened. We took him to the police station for questioning and we were referred to the Mirabel Center at Ikeja for medical examinations.

“I had asked Daughter B (9-years-old) about the allegations and she said it was true, I had asked Daughter A (12-years-old) about the allegations but she was afraid to tell me what happened.

“However, when we got to the police station, Daughter A told me what had happened,” the mother said.

While being cross-examined by the defence counsel, Mr Lekan Ijelu, the woman said the defendant was living with her family when he allegedly committed the crimes.

She noted that he had stopped residing with her family when the allegations came to light.

“He lived with us for seven or eight years. When he was living with us permanently, he used to go for his Islamic classes in the morning around 8am and return around 5pm.

“When he was temporarily residing with us, he used to stay on Fridays till Sundays,” she said.

The mother told the court that there were six adult males including the defendant who had lived in her home with her husband who is also a cleric.

She said she was shocked when she heard the allegations.

“He is a gentle boy. He says the truth all the time and when I’am going out, I leave my kids with him to take care of them for me, I trusted him so much, I was shocked to hear what he did to my daughters,” she said.

Following her evidence, the state prosecutor appealed to the presiding judge to address the woman to ensure that the mother brings her three daughters to court to testify against Ibrahim.

“My lord, the witness said that she did not want to bring her daughters to testify, because she feels it may be traumatic for them,” Alagbe said.

Responding, Justice Sybil Nwaka told the woman that preventing her children from coming to court will amount to the offence of obstruction of justice.

“The children are the victims. They must come to court to testify. This case is not your case, it is the case of the Lagos State Government.

“You reported the case, the children must come to court to testify. That is the process and procedure, if not you will be regarded as a hostile witness and that is an offence,” Justice Nwaka said.

The woman responded: “My lord, I feel it has been a long time. I do not want them to be reminded of what happened.”

Justice Nwaka adjourned the case until March 4 for continuation of trial.

Earlier during proceedings, a medical doctor and first prosecution witness, Dr Oyedeji Alagbe, of the Mirabel Center (a sexual assault referral centre) had interpreted the finding of his medical examinations on the minors.

Alagbe confirmed to the court that medical examination revealed that the three daughters were defiled.

According to the prosecution, Ibrahim committed the offences sometime in 2017 at the complainants home at Agege, Lagos.

“The defendant, Idris, a cleric on various occasions defiled the sisters aged 12, nine and seven-years-old in their home.

“The offence contravenes Section 137 of the Criminal Law of Lagos 2015 which prescribes a life sentence for anyone found guilty of the offence of defilement,” Alagbe said.

‘I’ve already spoken to Anthony Joshua, he wants Fury next!’ – AJ’s agent and promoter Eddie Hearn by Sindyy(f) : 12:03 am On Feb 24

Eddie Hearn, promoter and agent to Anthony Joshua has revealed the British-Nigerian boxing champion wants to fight Tyson Fury next, after watching Fury sensationally defeat Deontay Wilder in 7 round knock out on Sunday morning at the MGM Grand Arena in Las Vegas.

It was the second time Fury and Wilder were fighting, after getting a draw in the first clash in December 2018, and with the win Fury now has the WBC heavyweight belt while still retaining the Lineal and Ring magazine heavyweight championship belt.

Fury’s win now means Britain has all the belts in the boxing heavyweight division and Hearn has revealed Joshua wants a unification bout against Fury, a match that if agreed will determine the true king of the heavyweight division.

Speaking on the Weekend Sports Breakfast show on Sunday morning, Joshua’s promoter said he will go all out to set up a monster all-British clash next.

“I’ve already spoken to AJ and he wants to go into this fight next,” Matchroom supremo Hearn declared.

“We have to make this fight happen. We will never, ever get the chance for two Brits to fight for an undisputed heavyweight world championship.

“I promise you we will do everything we can to make this fight. It has to happen.”

Wilder has the option to take up a third fight with Fury this summer, but Hearn hopes the American does not do so after he was well and truly destroyed by Fury before his team threw in the towel in the seventh round.

“I don’t think anyone wants to see a third fight because it was that conclusive but we will see if he exercises that clause,” continued Hearn.

“I probably expect Wilder to do that – I don’t see where else he has to go.

“But our mandatory [IBF] challenger, Kubrat Pulev, is also promoted by Bob Arum, like Tyson Fury, so there is a very easy manoeuvre there if Wilder doesn’t accept the rematch to go straight into this undisputed fight in the summer. That is what we have to push for initially.

“If Wilder comes back and says ‘no, I’m having my rematch’ then that is due for July or August, AND it doesn’t really matter because we fight Pulev at Spurs in June and this fight happens in November/December. But our preference is to go straight into it because if we went straight into it, it would be undisputed.

“We will never get this opportunity in this sport to do this again with two Brits.

“I’ve already spoken to AJ – he wants to go straight into this fight next. He loves the Tyson fight, he has has zero fear of fighting Tyson Fury.

“He has been through everything already and he wants to be undisputed and this is the chance for our sport to have one of those legacy moments that we will never get the opportunity to have again.”

“I heard out of his camp he was going to be aggressive and go for it and I thought it was absolute madness and it ended up being genius from him and his team,” he said.

“Just a wonderful performance. What a time for British boxing – an incredible night.

” I felt like he could school him but I didn’t think he could school him and beat him up, and he did that.”

The Nasarawa Command of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defense Corps (NSCDC), has arrested a 26-year-old man for attempting to kill his biological mother in Lafia, the state’s capital.

Parading the suspect identified as Kamaldin Abu Sabo before newsmen, the State’s NSCDC commandant, Mahmud Gidado Fari said he threatened to kill his mother on numerous occassions.

Fari added;

“That is why we have arrested him and would soon charge him to court. It is wrong for anybody to say that he would kill another person. What makes this case different is that she is his biological mother”

Kamaldin said;

“I am living on Shendam Road in Lafia. I dropped out from Government College Keffi. I am a Tailor and did not attempt to kill my biological mother. And I did not agree with the statement of the NSCDC that my mother reported me; it was my elder brother who reported me to the NSCDC.

“I Took The Stairs To Get To The Top While Others Took The Elevator” – Burna Boy by Sindyy(f) : 10:18 pm On Mar 05

Nigerian Grammy-nominated singer, Burna Boy is in the news again for another controversial statement that’s likely to make the internet experience another shutdown.

The “Ye” singer recently got featured on international men’s magazine “GQ” and photos from the magazine have caused a stir on the internet but that didn’t end there. His recent interview with Nigerian-American entertainment journalist Lola Ogunnaike titled “Burna Boy, Global Giant” was also featured in the magazine where Burna spoke about making his way to the top, the constant comparison with Afrobeats king, Fela Kuti, and many other topics.

According to him, he has had to go through the never-ending hard steps to get to where he is while other artistes have taken the shorter route. Burna added that such a method was inappropriate for him so he had to take the longer route and that has made him more experienced.

“Unlike a lot of other people, I’ve had to go through never-ending steps to get here, whereas other people have taken the elevator up,” he shares. “I’ve always been too heavy for that kind of elevator, so I had to take the stairs. Now I know every floor and everything on every floor.”

Speaking on his albums doing successfully and amassing huge numbers, Burna emphasized as he had always done in the past that he has no regard for numbers. Burna said he feels this way about numbers because they have no feelings and soul and that the numbers are actually the people that felt his music and the message he was trying to pass across.

“I don’t really have a high regard for numbers, because numbers have no feelings, they have no soul, whereas I do, “My ‘numbers’ is the people who have actually felt the feeling that the music is supposed to carry across and in the process received the message.”

Burna Boy also spoke about the constant comparison to Fela Kuti, the godfather of afrobeat. Burna is mortified that anyone in their right sense would compare him to such a legend. According to him, Fela is an inspiration and childhood hero so comparing him to such a person is not honorable. Burna added that it makes him feel weird as there would be no him if it wasn’t for Fela.

“I don’t think anybody in their right mind would compare me to Fela. Fela is my inspiration and my childhood hero, so if you think comparing me to Fela is honorable, it’s actually not,”. It actually makes me feel weird. Fela was Fela, and if it wasn’t for Fela, there probably wouldn’t be any me, so I don’t understand the comparison.”

Buhari, The Worst Thing That Happened To Nigeria – Bishop David Oyedepo by Sindyy(f) : 6:03 pm On Mar 09

The Presiding Bishop of Living Faith Church Worldwide also known as Winners Chapel, Bishop , has described the regime of the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), as the worst in the history of Nigeria.

Oyedepo said this on Sunday while delivering a sermon during the second service of the church at the Faith Tabernacle, Ota, Ogun State.

He said the hate speech bill being sponsored by Senator Sabi Abdullahi was the most ridiculous bill anyone could think of.

The cleric said while the government was seeking to criminalise hate speech, those who kill others at will were left to walk free.

Oyedepo said,

“The government in this country is making a draconian law – hate speech. They said if you speak hatefully, you have committed murder. Out of someone who says I will kill you and the one who kills, who has committed a crime? I don’t understand which kind of animal farm we live in.

“I said stop stepping on my toes and you said that is hate speech but somebody kills and he is walking free on the streets. This is the most stupid and nonsensical ideal anybody can think of.

“I said you are bad and you said that is a crime. Must I say you are good when you are bad?
