Lead Pastor of SPAC Nation, Pastor Tobi Adegboyega

Spac Nation church, a church headed by a Nigerian in the UK is reportedly under investigation over its alleged methods of raising funds.

The church which is headed by Tobi Adegboyega who came to Britain in 2005, has been accused of pushing its young members into selling their blood and also taking bank loans which they allegedly donate to the church to fund the lavish lifestyle of its pastors.

The church which was praised by politicians in the past for rehabilitating youths linked to gang violence, came under scrutiny following a number of exposés which alleged that it was pressuring young members to beg, borrow and steal money for the church.

UK's Charity Commission who confirmed the probe, said it was looking into the governance, management, policies and practices of Spac Nation church, a registered charity set up to spread Christianity, particularly in relation to the safeguarding of its beneficiaries and its financial arrangements.

Earlier this week, HuffPost UK reported that some Spac nation members allegedly took teenagers to donate blood for medical trials, in a practice known as “bleeding for seed”. The church has however denied the claim.

‘The allegations I have received about Spac Nation from vulnerable young people are truly disturbing.

‘Victims are saying it is run like a cult. I want there to be a full investigation.’

The Charity Commission also revealed that Spac Nation had been subject to a regulatory compliance case since April 2018 after it received reports about safeguarding and financial concerns.

The commission said in a statement:

“Of immediate concern to the commission is that substantial amounts of charity money are held in cash. As a protective measure, the commission has issued an order under section 84 of the Charities Act, requiring the charity to bank its money.

“The commission is also concerned about the apparent lack of clarity between the personal, business and charity roles of leaders within the charity.

“Charities exist to improve lives and strengthen society; the issues that have been raised related to Spac Nation in recent weeks are highly concerning, even more so as the allegations are entirely at odds with the expectations about the way that charities will operate.

“The opening of this inquiry is an important step that will allow us to examine these concerns further and establish the facts. We will seek to provide assurance to the public and the community that these matters will be considered fully and, where necessary, resolved.”

However reacting to the inquiry, Spac Nation's Board of Trustees said it was needful to lay to rest some unverified allegations.

Its statement partly reads;

Inquiry is what we have always asked for. If anything is found wrong we will adjust it, and if not we will keep going strong.

“If any pastor or leader is caught pressuring people to donate, such leader will be expelled without delay, not to talk of pressuring to donate blood for money. We encourage people to donate blood and all they can for the community but we also say not for money ever, that just won’t happen here.”

Barcelona captain, Lionel Messi, was named La Liga’s best player at the MARCA’s awards ceremony in Spain on Monday night.

Messi also received his sixth Pichichi Trophy award for the highest goal scorer in the 2018/19 La Liga season.

The 32-year-old was not present at the gala but spoke on a video accepting the award.

Messi said: “I will try to keep winning things, to keep growing. It’s a trophy that fills me with pride, to get to be the top scorer of this league, what it signifies. I’m happy to win it again.”

Messi recently won the Ballon d’Or and FIFA’s Best Player award this year.

The Argentine will now hope to lead Barcelona to victory when they take on Real Madrid in the La Liga El Clásico fixture on Wednesday night at the Camp Nou.

Mandela Egbo has lost his fathet

Mandela Egbo, a Nigerian-born British footballer, has lost his father Uchenna Egbo to the cold hands of death.

The 22-year-old footballer who plays for SV Darmstadt 98, lost his father on December 3.

Uchenna Egbo died at the age of 61 and will be buried at Umucha Amuda, Isuochi in Umunneochi Local Government Area of Abia State on January 25.

The English youth international moved from Crystal Palace to German club Borussia Mönchengladbach at the age of 17.

He joined second division Bundesliga side Darmstadt on a free transfer in 2019 after four years with Gladbach.

A video has emerged online showing the moment a Nigerian soldier was caught on camera assaulting a young boy.

The startling incident occurred yesterday, Saturday December 21st at Rowe park in Yaba, Lagos state.

Local reports show that the soldier attacked and brutalized the boy because he was wearing a camouflage trouser, an action that many military officers frown at.

The UK, Germany and France on Sunday received some barbs US Secretary of State, Mike Pompeo for not being ‘helpful enough’ following the tension that aroused with the killing of Iran’s army general, Qassem Soleimani by an American airstrike.m, Igbere TV reports.

Mr. Pompeo slammed the major North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) allies, saying that they had not been “as helpful as I wish that they could be.”

He, however, identified Israel, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates as countries that had been “fantastic” since the early hours of Friday when Soleimani was assassinated.

“I spent the last day and a half, two days, talking to partners in the region, sharing with them what we were doing, why we were doing it, seeking their assistance,” Pompeo said.

“They’ve all been fantastic. And then talking to our partners in other places that haven’t been quite as good.

“Frankly, the Europeans haven’t been as helpful as I wish that they could be. The Brits, the French, the Germans all need to understand that what we did, what the Americans did, saved lives in Europe as well.

“Qassem Soleimani led and his IRGC (Islamic Revolutionary Guard) led assassination campaigns in Europe.

“This was a good thing for the entire world, and we are urging everyone in the world to get behind what the United States is trying to do to get the Islamic Republic of Iran to simply behave like a normal nation.”

European allies have been cautious in their reaction to the US attack at Baghdad airport.

Mr. Paul Onomuakpokpo, the chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Olomu Ward 1 in Ughelli South Local Government Area of Delta State has been shot dead. was killed around 7pm on Wednesday night after the suspected killers, reportedly laid ambush along the Ogoni-Olomu road, intercepted the party Chieftain before the Owhrode’s palace and shot him severally till he died.

IgbereTV reports that the gunmen also riddled the car he was driving in with bullets and ensured he died before they escaped while shooting sporadically to wade off resistance.

As at the time of filing this report, it is however not clear whether the murder was politically motivated or otherwise as the police were yet to make any official statement about the murder.

A man is seeking justice after he was battered by some street touts in Ojota, Lagos, for no reason.

Ojay, a fashion stylist, said he was walking with his friend last night when some touts in his neighbourhood asked them to stop. When they didn’t, they were attacked and beaten, leaving Ojay with a deep cut on his face that bled profusely.

Ojay added that when help came, people were begging the touts instead. They said the men are known faces in the area and make it a habit of bullying and attacking people.

He’s now asking for justice to ensure someone else doesn’t suffer like he did.

He wrote:

This happened around past 9 last night. A friend came to visit me and I decided to see him off just 4 buildings away from my house 3 guys asked us to stop and I told my friend not to answer them .

The next thing we heard was a slap from behind on my friend neck and I was like why would you slap someone you don’t know what has he done? Just before I could finish my statement the 3 of them started beating us. My friend was able to run to call for help from my house since the people around there where not ready to help.

When we finally got help people started to come around . It was so funny that most people now started to beg this guys and where telling me to let go because this guys are known faces in the area and it not the first time of doing this to people in the area. I was able to identify one of them well, I know is house all.

All I am asking for is justice we don’t know who the next victim is. This happened in ojota Lagos.

Shehu Sani

A former lawmaker representing Kaduna Central Senatorial District, Senator Shehu Sani, has accused the Federal Government of attempting to silence him over his criticism of the regime led by the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), using fronts.

Sani alleged that the government is using his accuser, through the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, to “frame” him in the extortion scandal.

Operatives of the EFCC had on Wednesday searched  two houses and an office of the embattled Senator Shehu Sani in Abuja.

The action was part of the ongoing probe of the former lawmaker for alleged extortion of $24,000 from the Chairman of ASD Motors, Alhaji Sani Dauda.

Dauda had also, in his petition to the EFCC, claimed that the former senator demanded N4m from him to give to the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Tanko Muhammad, and four other judges to influence some pending cases in court.

But the CJN had on Sunday denied links with Shehu Sani.

Sani, a fiery critic of the government, has consistently maintained his innocence.

The former lawmaker, who is speaking from the EFCC detention for the first time on the matter, in a message to The PUNCH‘s correspondent via WhatsApp, made a 15-point response.

Sani’s response read, “The allegations of ‘extortion’ against me are baseless, fact-less, unfounded, hollow and unsubstantial.

 

“It is a scripted stream of mischievous concoctions and utter fabrications using a puppet state agent; all aimed at splashing faeces and mud on me.

“The extortion allegation is nothing but a wholesale falsehood, packaged in a phantom anti-graft facade to taint, stain and mute me. That shall never happen if I am alive.

“I have made my statement and provided all my facts against their package of lies and I demand the EFCC to make public all the sheets of our statements and supporting documents for the world to see.

“My detention is unfair, unjust, prearranged and politically motivated.”

He also said, “Alhaji Sani Dauda and his hidden sponsors have not been able to provide any proof of their allegations. I’m unjustly incarcerated on the grounds of an arranged two-page petition backed with no evidential or documentary proof.

“Fascism thrives in frame up of its critics.

“They claim extortion and here they are closing my bank accounts, searching my houses and offices and demanding I declare my assets, of which I have already done that at the CCB (Code of Conduct Bureau) last year when I left the Senate.

“Frame-up cannot silence me!”

The senator further said, “I have never ever met with the CJN or any judge or judges or ever called directly or indirectly to offer to give or to give directly or indirectly any form of gratification from Alhaji Sani Dauda.

“I have never ever discussed with ASD on any form of bribe or gratification to be given to any judge or any EFCC official.

“The bribe story is phantom, the bribe story is a fake, imaginative work of fiction, cruelly crafted to smear me, to frame me and to justify my persecution.

“The bribe story is a heap of blatant lies and outright falsehood concocted and fabricated, using a front and the EFCC to premiere a state drama.

“ASD is a barely educated front for a state mission.

“Criminalising me or ‘framing me’ will not silence me, bend me or compromise me.”

Some Nigerians have reacted to report of Founder and General Overseer of the Living Faith Church a.k.a Winners Chapel, Bishop David Oyedepo dismissing his senior church officials for looting the church’s treasury.

Though he did not disclose the number of officials dismissed while speaking at an empowerment summit organised for the church’s ordained workers, he however disclosed that one of the affected senior officials refused to confess until the last minute.

Bishop Oyedepo said:

“We had no choice but to dismiss them. You can imagine top church officials engaging in doubling figures and other dubious practices. After we dismissed them, we discovered more fraud.

“Those who should discover the fraud were the ones involved in it. One of them refused to confess until the last minute. Can you imagine accountants perpetrating fraud in the house of God?

“Don’t employ them, don’t sympathise. Whoever sympathises with the wicked is wicked himself. Don’t sympathise with any perpetrator of fraud, otherwise, you are a partaker of the evil act.”

However reacting to the report, some Nigerians lashed out at Bishop Oyedepo for not seeing the said act in a vision before it was uncovered and also for not forgiving the officials 70 times 70, just like the Bible said. Others however defended him.

21-year-old Gemma Watts is currently facing jail time after posing as a boy to sexually assault up to 50 girls as young as 14 after grooming them online.

The lesbian who pleaded guilty to seven charges relating to four victims aged 14 and 15 in November 2019, created an online profile as 16-year-old Jake Waton. Her Snapchat and Instagram accounts were used in targeting girls aged 14-16 by liking their profiles.

Watts who would share skateboarding videos, use teenage slang and flatter the girls with complimentary messages, tied her long hair into a bun and wore a baseball cap, baggy jogging bottoms and a hoodie to convince the underage girls that her male alter ego is “real”.

Her victims all believed they were in a relationship with a teenage boy who travelled by train to meet them, until her real identity was busted. She also met the parents of some of her victims and had conversations with them

Detective Constable Phillipa Kenwright, from the Metropolitan Police, said;

“It’s been life-changing for all of the victims involved. They believed they were in a relationship with a young teenage boy, to then find out this was actually a female.

“For some of these girls it was their first relationship… She’s duped them the whole time. 

“A lot of these victims are young, quite innocent. They have been completely taken in by Gemma Watts. They all believed they were in a relationship with a male.

“I think there will be further victims, who were in a relationship with Watts, who will now realise she is a woman.

“I think there could be 20 to 50.  I think she had been grooming other young victims online using social media profiles, which are very believable.”

Investigations into the sexual assault case began in 2018 after a doctor raised concerns of an underage girl being in a relationship with an older boy. She was finally charged in September 2019 and she pleaded guilty to seven offences in November which include: Assault by penetration, sexual assault and grooming against 14-year-old girl from Hampshire; sexual assault and grooming against a 15-year-old girl from Surrey; grooming a 15-year-old girl from Plymouth; sexual assault against a 15-year-old girl from the West Midlands.

Many fear the leadership of her church might frown at the dance video if its true that she is a reverend sister and not just a dance donning the uniform.

President Donald Trump

American President, Donald Trump has threatened Britain, France and Germany, vowing to impose a 25 percent tariff on European automobile imports if they fail to formally accuse Iran of violating a 2015 nuclear deal,  a report by Washington Post has revealed.

The three nations triggered a dispute mechanism under the nuclear agreement on Tuesday, which is the strongest step they have taken so far to enforce the agreement that requires Iran to curb its nuclear programme.

The mechanism amounts to a formal accusation against Iran that it broke the terms of the deal.

It could also lead to the reinstatement of United Nations sanctions that were lifted under the accord.

They said that they made the move to avoid a crisis over nuclear proliferation being added to an escalating confrontation in the Middle East.

Iran has criticised that move, calling it a “strategic mistake.”

This latest threat by the US, in contrast, was intended to shift European foreign policy, according to the Washington Post.

It was not clear if the threat was necessary since the Europeans had signalled an intention to trigger the dispute mechanism for weeks, the newspaper reported.

Trump unilaterally withdrew the US from the 2015 nuclear deal – the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action – in 2018.

Iran has gradually rolled back its commitments under the agreement since the US pulled out of the deal.

Moreover, President Donald Trump had vowed that Tehran will never have a nuclear weapon under his watch.

Senator Ifeanyi Ubah has filed an appeal against Friday’s judgement by the Federal Capital Territory High Court sitting in Bwari removing him as member of the Senate.

Justice Bello Rawu had in his ruling sacked Ubah and ordered Mr. Obinna Uzoh of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as replacement.

Speaking with Journalists in Abuja, Ubah who described the judgement as a “mere distraction”, said he had gone further to file an injunction for Stay of Execution on the judgement pending the determination of his appeal at the Court of Appeal in Abuja.

“I have appealed against the judge’s refusal to set aside the judgement.

“I have also filed an injunction for Stay of Execution.

“I have absolute confidence that the court of Appeal will do Justice and set aside the judgement”, he said.

Ubah, who currently represents Anambra South, however, picked holes in the judgement on multiple grounds.

First was that the FCT High Court lacked the “territorial jusrisdiction” to entertain a matter that arose from Anambra South Senatorial Election Primaries.

He said the mischief of filing the case against him in Abuja and not in Anambra was to ensure that himself and even Chris Uba of the PDP were not aware of the proceedings.

“In fact, Chris Uba filed an application asking the court to be joined as he was the authentic candidate of the PDP as confirmed by INEC”, he said.

The lawmaker said the FCT High Court also lacked the jusrisdiction as the matter in question was a post-election matter already settled at the electoral tribunal and the Court of Appeal that gave him victory against the authentic candidate of the PDP, Chris Uba.

He expressed shock that contrary to Section 285(13)) of the 1999 Constitution, the court granted the wish of Obinna Uzoh who was not even a candidate in the February 23 election and did not go through the entire stages of the election as the winner of the election.

Ubah said even more shocking was that he was not at anytime served any of the court processes, thereby infringing on his right to fair hearing.

On the criminal allegation that his National Examination Council (NECO) Certificate was forged, Ubah said the court did not summon any staff of NECO, or any other appropriate authority confirming his NECO certificate as fake, hence “there was no proof beyond reasonable doubt on the allegation of falsification of NECO certificate.”

He said the kangaroo tactics adopted spelt doom for the electoral process and justice system if allowed to stand.

Ubah, however, called on his supporters not to be agitated but remain calm as he was confident that he’ll surely have his day in court.

Victor Moses

Inter Milan chief executive, Beppe Marotta, has confirmed the club’s interest in Chelsea winger, Victor Moses.

It was reported that Inter were interested in bringing Moses to the club, where the former Super Eagles forward would get a second chance to work under manager, Antonio Conte.

Moses was loaned out to Fenerbahce by former Chelsea manager, Maurizio Sarri last January but has only played six times and scored one goal so far this season because of a recurring thigh injury.

The 29-year-old’s current contract with Chelsea expires in June 2021.

Asked about Inter Milan’s interest in Moses, Marotta was quoted by Sky Sport: as saying: “Moses? He is definitely a candidate.”

Apart from Moses, Inter Milan are also interested in signing Chelsea’s Olivier Giroud and Tottenham’s Christian Eriksen this month.

Economic inequality is widening across the world and women in particular are feeling its effects as care work remains undervalued, according to a new report by anti-poverty charity Oxfam.

The world's 22 richest men, for instance, own more wealth than all 325 million women in Africa combined, Oxfam's Time to Care report showed.

"When 22 men have more wealth than all the women in Africa combined, it's clear that our economy is just plain sexist," Danny Sriskandarajah, chief executive at Oxfam Great Britain said in conjunction with the report's publication on Monday.

Published in advance of the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, where world leaders will meet this week, Oxfam's report highlighted how women are "chronically undervalued" for unpaid care work, Sriskandarajah said.

"If world leaders meeting this week are serious about reducing poverty and inequality, they urgently need to invest in care and other public services that make life easier for those with care responsibilities, and tackle discrimination holding back women and girls," he said.

Women risk being trapped in poverty with little time to get an education, earn a decent living or have a say in how society is run, Sriskandarajah added.
