Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has unveiled plans to alleviate economic strains on residents by implementing a revised work schedule for civil servants and introducing various relief measures. In a live media chat titled 'Sanwo Speaks', the governor outlined steps taken to mitigate the economic impact following President Bola Tinubu's termination of the petrol subsidy and the unification of exchange rates in 2023.

Under the new arrangement, civil servants ranging from levels 1 to 14 will now work only three days a week at their respective offices, while those on levels 15 to 17 are required to report four times weekly. Sanwo-Olu emphasized that this adjustment aims to balance productivity while easing the burden on employees. Notably, teachers in public schools will maintain a traditional five-day workweek due to the nature of academic activities, with additional transport support provided to facilitate their commute.

In further efforts to alleviate financial pressure, the governor announced a 25 percent reduction in state-owned transport services, effective immediately, and pledged to negotiate fare reductions with transport unions. Additionally, plans are underway to identify caterers and local eateries in each Local Government Area (LGA) to provide meals for at least 1,000 people daily. Furthermore, the administration plans to inaugurate "Sunday markets" across 42 identified locations, offering essential food items at a discounted rate of 25 percent, providing further relief to residents grappling with economic challenges.

The Association of Table Waters Producers of Nigeria has revealed plans to increase the price of sachet water, commonly known as pure water, to N100 each due to rising production material expenses.

At a press conference in Lagos, association members highlighted challenges such as high diesel costs, power shortages, and increased production expenses, stating that water prices must reflect the country's economic situation.

President Clementina Ativie emphasized the necessity of paying more to ensure quality water for consumers. She stated, "Pure water is sold for N50 now, and it is even going up to N100 per one... The cost of production is high."

Ativie expressed concerns about affordability for ordinary Nigerians, noting that producers often fund factories from personal finances or loans due to limited access to bank loans. She urged patience from consumers, affirming their aim to keep water prices below N20 per sachet despite production challenges.
