How Suspected Herdsmen Killed My Husband Over Alleged Dead Cow - Bereaved Wife Speaks In Delta by AngelPrisi(f) : 5:00 am On Apr 13

File photo

Sun News reports that a bereaved housewife, Jennifer Nwaeke has appealed to the police in Delta State to fish out the alleged killers of her husband, Austin, at Albert camp in the suburb of Asaba, the state capital.

Gunmen suspected to be Fulani herdsmen who were said to be on a revenge mission, stormed the home of the Nwaekes and killed him instantly.

Local sources said the herdsmen were enraged by the alleged killing of one of their cows by unknown persons and decided to take revenge by spilling blood.

The late 28-year old Austin Nwaeke, a father of two was killed on April 9 at about 3 am.

Narrating the incident, Mrs Jennifer Nwaeke said she was asleep when she heard gunshots in their compound.

“I ran out of the house as my husband was lying in front of the door because of heat, but discovered that my husband had been shot,”
she recalled.

Mrs. Nweake said she saw four heavily armed men and had to retreat into the house, stressing that she heard another volley of gunfire and thereafter she could not hear the voice of her husband again.

She said the herdsmen were shouting that they killed their cow and had come for revenge.

Parents of the deceased Mr. and Mrs. Romanus Nwaeke said they have lived in the camp for 30 years where they had all their children, and also appealed to the police to investigate the matter with a view to bringing the killers to justice.

They said they were living in fear as the suspected herdsmen promised to come back for further attacks, noting that the police have not visited even after the incident was reported at the GRA police station, Asaba.

Founder of the camp, Mr. Albert Chukwukelu said the attack was unexpected even though there were reports that some persons had threatened to attack the camp over the killing of a cow in another camp far away.

He said many persons in the camp had packed from their homes for fear of further attacks and appealed for security presence.

Although the public relations officer of the Delta State police command, DSP Onome Onowakpoyeya could not be reached as of the time of filing this report, sources within the command’s hierarchy confirmed the incident, saying that investigation had already begun.

A 46 year old Nigerian man identied as Simon Okafor Chukudi, is said to be on the run after testing positive for Coronavirus in Ghana.

According to Ghanain media, Chukudi tested positive for Coronavirus on Monday April 13th but has since disappeared from his residence at Wapaani, a suburb of the regional capital, Wa after health authorities informed him about his status.

A Ghanaian Health Service official, Dr Osei Kufuor Afreh, who confirmed the incident said the Nigerian is one of the region’s imported Covid-19 cases.

“Five out of the new cases were people who came from abroad, including one Nigerian and one person from the Western region. But unfortunately for us, one of our confirmed cases cannot be traced. Having given him feedback on his test results, it has been very difficult to reach him,” Dr Afreh added.

He explained that health professionals had planned to transport Chukudi to the regional isolation centre but have tried to no avail to get in touch with him.

“For almost 48 hours now, it has been difficult to reach him,” he stated.

A Ghanaian Regional Police Commander, DCOP Francis Aboagye Nyarko, who confirmed the incident, said a search party has already been dispatched to hunt for Chukwudi.

Ghana currently has 641 confirmed cases of Coronavirus.

Bodies won’t litter streets of Africa – World Bishops tell Melinda Gates by AngelPrisi(f) : 8:38 pm On Apr 18

The World Bishops’ Council (WBC), Africa has rejected the prediction of Melinda Gates that COVID – 19 will be so devastated that dead bodies will litter the streets of Africa, describing her statement as very frightening.

Mrs. Gates, wife of billionaire Bill Gates had in an interview few days ago with the CNN stated that if the world does not act fast enough on corona virus pandemic, then Africa will experience the same thing happening in Ecuador where they were putting dead bodies out on the streets.

But in a statement issued in Nigeria by WBC spokesman in Africa, Bishop Seun Adeoye on Wednesday, April 15, 2020, the body frowned at the assertion by Mrs. Gates, saying Africa will overcome COVID – 19 with much more less casualties against what some major developed nations experienced.

“Even though Mrs. Gates and some other key people from the developed nations had predicted that the attack of COVID – 19 would be horrible for Africa because of our poor health care systems and lack of humanitarian support, it is clear that the fight against this virus is not about robust health system or sophisticated economy going by what its effect in United States, China, Italy, France and Spain.

“Our Africa Nuncio, His Eminence, Bishop Godspower Akandu and all members of WBC, World Clergies Congress (WCC) and World Federation of Churches (WFC) reject any form of depressing and horrific comment about Africa.

Africa has its problems

“Yes, Africa has its problems but Mrs. Gates should not be a death propagandist. We recognized several positive things Gates Foundation had done to Africa. We give a round of applause to them. We are also praying for them.

“COVID – 19 is a passing phase and as a people of faith, we seek God’s intervention daily on our knees asking Him to help our world and to help Africa overcome this deadly virus.

We declare collectively and we believe so that there will be no dead bodies littering the streets of Africa”.

WBC urged African leaders to show total commitment not only to the fight against the current pandemic but also to stop corruption and rise up and take the continent out of abject poverty and hunger.

“We plead with Africans to be discipline, maintain high level of cleanliness, seek the face of God always and help each others to defeat not only the virus but also the pessimists who gave us little or no chance of survival.

We are assuring the world that they will see miracle in Africa. For us, COVID – 19 is the Lord’s battle and we shall be victorious”, the statement added.

Too Early to Lift Lockdown Restrictions in UK – Says Minister by AngelPrisi(f) : 11:00 am On Apr 20

Britain is not considering lifting the lockdown enacted almost four weeks ago to control the coronavirus outbreak given “deeply worrying” increases in the death toll, a senior minister said on Sunday.

Britain is at or near the peak of a health crisis in which more than 15,000 people have died – the fifth highest national death toll of a pandemic linked to at least 150,000 deaths worldwide.

Cabinet Office minister Michael Gove said a Buzzfeed report that the government was considering lifting the lockdown in phases over the coming months was not correct.

“The facts and the advice are clear at the moment that we should not be thinking of lifting of these restrictions yet,” Gove told Sky News.

The latest data show 15,464 people have died in British hospitals after testing positive for the novel coronavirus, a total that has increased by more than 800 for three days running.

A further 2,500 had died in care homes during the week to April 13, according to the National Care Forum, a representative body for the adult social care sector.

“One of the things that is deeply worrying and concerning is the high level of deaths,” Gove said.

“The evidence suggests that the rate of infection and the death rate is flattening, but we’re not absolutely certain that we are yet on a downward trajectory.”

Gove described as “grotesque” a Sunday Times story that said Prime Minister Boris Johnson had skipped five crisis meetings to address the coronavirus pandemic early in the outbreak.

“The prime minister took all the major decisions. Nobody can say that the prime minister wasn’t throwing heart and soul into fighting this virus,” he added.

Oil Price Crashes To Below $11 Per Barrel by AngelPrisi(f) : 10:00 pm On Apr 21

Oil Price Crashes To Below $11 Per Barrel

Oil prices plunged further on Monday April 20, as storage space ran low for the glut of crude no longer needed by economies hard hit by Coronavirus.

The price of crude oil fell to $11, crashing almost 40 percent in a market flooded with crude and slammed by evaporating demand in the face of the coronavirus pandemic. At 8:54 a.m. EDT on Monday, the front-month WTI Crude price was plummeting by 37.22 percent at $11.47. The Brent Crude front-month contract was also under pressure, trading down 6.02 percent at $26.39.

Rystad Energy analyst Bjornar Tonhaugen said;

“The real problem of the global supply-demand imbalance has started to really manifest itself in prices.

“As production continues relatively unscathed, storage is filling up by the day. The world is using less and less oil and producers now feel how this translates in prices.”
Pierre Andurand, the head of the eponymous oil hedge fund tweeted;

“There is no limit to the downside to prices when inventories and pipelines are full. Negative prices are possible."

Oil price crashes to $11 per barrel

In early trading in New York, West Texas Intermediate fell to as low as of $10.96 a barrel, the weakest level since 1998. The plunge was exaggerated as the May futures contract expires on Tuesday, leading to a fire-sale among traders who don’t have access to storage.

The June contract for West Texas Intermediate futures, considered the benchmark for U.S. crude prices dropped 11.5% to $22.14 a barrel. Brent crude oil, the global benchmark, fell 6.1% to $26.38 a barrel.

The fall was more dramatic for the front-month May contract, which fell 36.9% to $11.53 a barrel, near its lowest level since 1999. With the May contract expiring Tuesday and no longer the most actively traded, oil watchers don’t consider it the most accurate reflection of price action.

The European benchmark contract, London Brent North Sea oil for June delivery, was down 6.1 percent at $26.38 per barrel. Analysts said this month’s agreement between OPEC and its peers to slash output by 10 million barrels a day was having little impact because of the virus lockdowns and travel restrictions that are keeping billions of people at home.

AxiCorp’s Stephen Innes told AFP;

“It’s a dump at all cost as no one wants delivery of oil, with Cushing storage facilities filling by the minute.

“It hasn’t taken long for the market to recognise that the OPEC+ deal will not, in its present form, be enough to balance oil markets.”

There are signs of weakness everywhere. Buyers in Texas are offering as little as $2 a barrel for some oil streams, raising the possibility that producers may soon have to pay to have crude taken off their hands.

The nearest timespread for the US benchmark has fallen to its weakest level on record. Crude stockpiles at Cushing the US’s key storage hub  have jumped 48% to almost 55-million barrels since the end of February. The hub had working storage capacity of 76-million as of September 30, according to the Energy Information Administration.

Lagos couple arrested for the death of their housemaid by AngelPrisi(f) : 2:04 am On Apr 24

A couple in Lagos have been arrested for the death of their 19 year old housemaid.

Lagos couple arrested for the death of their housemaid

Mr and Mrs Fortune Stephens, (pictured left) were arrested by Operatives of State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department (SCIID) of the Lagos State Police command for the death of Joy Okom Adole, at their home at number 18 Ogundola street, in the Bariga area of the state.

The couple called the police to report that their housemaid had committed suicide at their home on April 20th following a misunderstanding. When the police arrived, Joy was found hanging from a rope in her room. The couple was taken to the station for questioning and during preliminary investigation, a different story emerged of how Joy may have met her untimely death.

Her family believe that Mr and Mrs Stephens or only Mrs Stephens beat Joy to death and staged her death to look like suicide.

Narrating what he believes happened to LIB, a cousin of late Joy, Philip Ejeh, said she worked for the couple for just four months, starting from 10th of January. She was being paid N15000 a month, but the money was paid to an agent who brought Joy to the couple and not directly to Joy.

Ejeh said trouble started when Joy asked the couple to her salary directly to her

What really happened is that on April 20th at about 4pm, I received a call from the village that our sister, Joy, is somewhere at Bariga where she is working as a househelp but that she is now dead. I never knew she was in Lagos. So I made enquiries and they sent the agent’s number that brought her to that place to me. I called the agent who narrated what happened.

The agent said it was on Sunday evening April 19th that they called her that the girl is misbehaving and that she should come and take her away. Actually when the girl started working on the 10th of January, they began by paying her N10, 000. Subsequently the couple refused to pay her salary and she decided to stop working. Joy said she wanted them to open an account for her so they can be paying her salary to her directly and that if they are not ready to do that, she is no longer ready to work.

They started complaining that the girl wasn’t working as they expected her to work.

On the 10th of April, they asked her to leave their house since she wasn’t ready to work with them again. She packed her things and went to the bus stop but couldn’t find a bus due to the lockdown. She had to go back to their house. The couple saw her and were like they had told her to go, why is she still hanging around. They called the agent who pleaded with them that since there is a lockdown, they should bear with her and manage Joy pending when there is free movement so she can come and move her away from their house.

They allowed her to enter their house but on the 19th, they chased her again and were like if the agent doesn’t come to pick her, they never want to see her around their house again. At that point, they were beating her again. They called the agent who pleaded with them to still keep her since there is no movement. She told them to please keep her until Monday April 20th that she would find her way to come and pick her up. The agent heard the husband telling the wife that she should stop beating the girl and that the beating is okay. In the process, the phone went off.

On Monday April 20th around 7am, they called the agent and was trying to make some enquiries about the girl. The agent was like any information you need about the girl, ask her and she would supply you with the information. They continued to insist. It was around 11am that they opened up to her that Joy is dead. The agent was like what happened. Who killed her? What killed her? The couple said she was supposed to wake up and that she did not wake up so they had to go and check her room only to find her hanging. The agent was like this is not possible, you should tell me that you beat her to death.

They told her that they were saying the truth and that at the moment, they have moved the corpse to the police station and then to the mortuary. They sent the photo where she hung herself. The agent forwarded the picture to us.” he said

Phillip said Mrs Fortune alleged that she found out that the deceased stole her indomie noodles and some of her other personal belongings.

Joy’s family members are however insisting that their sister was killed by Mrs Fortune. They questionned how somebody can commit suicide by hanging and still have her legs touching the floor.

Confirming the incident to LIB, the spokesperson of the state police command, Bala Elkana, said

”Our operatives at Bariga received a complain from a couple that their househelp committed suicide. That is the initial report that they got. The DPO led a team of Homicide detectives to the house and they saw the housegirl hanging on a rope but the way she stood on the rope raised an eyebrow because it actually looked like it was a stage managed event. The detectives went further to check for marks of violence and they saw a lot, fresh wound. She was actually tortured so there is a likelihood that she died and they tried to cover up by putting her on a rope to show she committed suicide. That informed the decision to launch an investigation into the case. The corpse was removed and taken to the hospital for autopsy.

The couple were arrested and they are placed under investigation. The Homicide department has taken over the case under the Commissioner of Police’s directive.’

The couple are in custody answering questions because that is not really a case of suicide at this preliminary stage” he said

He narrated the story of how his own mother wanted him to repeat his Jss2 class because she felt he wasn’t ready. He said he ignored her suggestion and decided to enter the next class but his school asked him to repeat class when he was in SS2. Some of his fans started mocking him after he shared his experience and called him Olodo, which is a Yoruba word for stupid/brainless.

All of una wey Dey argue result and what not .Make una drop una result make we see leave all the long talk. My mum wanted me to repeat JS2(after the school promoted me) Cos she knew I could do better than I was doing I sha used strong head up until I got to SS2 and the school themselves advised me to repeat.

The fact that there’s already people in the comments calling me dull/ OLODO just exposes you to the unnecessary stigma attached to failure in our society.Sha bottom line is my mum could comfortably let me repeat because my school fees was not 21k USD and that’s where I cannot speak on how that man feels because even me no go pay 21k USD for my pikin secondary education
