A 20-year-old man, Mr Isaac Boniface, is in police custody for allegedly defiling a four-year-old girl in the Dahwol community, Jos South Local Government Area of Plateau State.

The suspect, who claimed to be working with a mattress manufacturing firm, was among the over 22 suspected criminals paraded by the state Commissioner of Police, Mr Isaac Akinmoyede, for various offences at the command’s headquarters in Jos on Wednesday.

Boniface, who confessed to defiling the victim, told punch correspondent that he committed the act because the little girl was his friend.

He said, “My name is Isaac Boniface and I live in the same compound with the girl and her mother. Anytime I was going to work or passing by, the girl would greet me and I would greet her back because we are friends.

“So, one day, I took her to a corner in the compound and had carnal knowledge of her. The mother later told me to follow her to somewhere and that was how I was arrested by the police.”

The CP, who condemned the action of the suspect, said he and the other suspects would be charged when investigations on their respective cases were concluded.

UEFA boss Aleksander Ceferin has stated that Liverpool football club will not be crowned champions of England despite waiting 30 years to win the EPL title, if the season is declared null and void due to coronavirus.

The Coronavirus outbreak prompted suspension of all football leagues in the UK until April 4 and that has cast doubt on whether any of the campaigns can be completed as the pandemic could grow worse.

Reports had suggested the league would be gifted to Liverpool after just 29 games as they are 25 points clear at the top. But ahead of an emergency meeting by the FA on Thursday, UEFA president Ceferin dismissed the possibility of Liverpool being handed the premier league trophy as he outlined Uefa’s plans to finish the season.

Ceferin said: ‘I’ve seen and heard some again fake news that UEFA will advise leagues to finish the championships now and decide that the winners are the ones who are number one now.

‘I can say that it’s not true. Our goal is to finish the leagues and we didn’t recommend anything like that to any association or league.’

In Spain, Barcelona are leading the LaLiga title race but Spanish federation president Luis Rubiales said Barcelona will not receive the title if the season can not be completed by June 30.

He said: “The 19-20 season has to end with the same rules and not change, although the situation is exceptional.

‘I cannot guarantee that the competition will end, as others have risked saying, before June 30.

‘It is unfair that the competition ends with the classification as it is now.’

The head of the Aborigine Ogboni worldwide, Oba Abdul Olakisan Adetoyese has disclosed that he is ready to proffer solution to the ravaging coronavirus in Nigeria.

The spiritual leader revealed that he is willing to seek solution to the disease by appeasing the gods.

He added that offering propitiation to cleanse the land would eliminate the pandemic, which has defied scientific solution.

In a press statement signed by the spiritual leader of the Ogboni cult and made available to journalists in Osogbo on Friday, he said the disease was not ordinary and required spiritual solution.

He said,

“I am ready to appease the gods through rituals in some selected cities within the South West region as a means of solving the epidemic.

“The disease was not an ordinary one and it demands spiritual solution to send it packing. Such terrible epidemic in the past had always been tackled through spiritual means even when there was no medical or scientific know-how.

“I, therefore offer to embark on spiritual activities to curb the disease in the country, I am also willing to meet with some selected Governors in the South West on ways to avert the spread of the disease”.

He called on traditional rulers and other religious leaders especially Muslims and Christians to also embark on spiritual activities to curb the menace of Coronavirus ravaging the entire world.

Men of Ogun State Police Command have arrested a 35-year-old man identified as Habeed Kasali for allegedly killing his kinsman he suspected of having an affair with his wife.

Igbere TV learnt that the suspect, Kasali, a native of Totowu village in Igbesa, Ogun State allegedly stabbed Bamidele Johnson, 32 with a scissor multiple times which led to his death.

According to report, Kasali had on several occasions accused Bamidele of sleeping with his wife, an accusation the deceased was said to have refuted.

It was also learnt that Kasali reportedly confronted Bamidele once again on Saturday which caused a quarrel between them.

A fight soon ensued and the suspect allegedly brought out a scissor which he stabbed the deceased with on his neck, chest and eye regions.

Reacting to the incident, the Police Public Relations in the state, Abimbola Oyeyemi disclosed that a family member of the deceased reported the incident at Igbesa Police Division.

“They are both natives of Totowu. The incident occurred on Saturday. The suspect confronted the deceased that he was having an affair with his wife despite several warnings and it led to a fight.

“In the process, the suspect used scissors to stab the deceased several times on his chest, eye and neck which made Bamidele to lose consciousness. He was immediately rushed to CREST Hospital at Isuti Road in Egan, Lagos but was confirmed dead by the doctor.

“Having realised that the victim has died, the suspect took to his heels, but the DPO Igbesa SP Abayomi Adeniji quickly dispatched his detectives to go after him and he was eventually arrested from where he ran to.

“The corpse of the deceased has been deposited at Ota General Hospital Mortuary for autopsy. The Commissioner of Police Kenneth Ebrimson has ordered the immediate transfer of the suspect to homicide section of the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department (SCIID) for further investigation and prosecution,” said Oyeyemi.

A Nigerian man identified as Chidi Okereke has taken to the popular micro-blogging, Twitter, to call out Chioma Avril Rowland, the wife-to-be of singer David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido.

In the tweet, the man claimed that a friend of his came back from the United Kingdom on Thursday, March 19, on the same flight with Chioma.

He said the flight went from London to Dubai then to Nigeria.

The man said his friend has been self-isolating herself in a friend’s boys’ quarter ever since she returned. He added that even her family members have not seen her.

Okereke noted that Chioma who came back from the same flight has not been isolating herself. He said she has been roaming around.

“My friend was on an Emirates flight with Chioma; London to Dubai, then Dubai to Lagos last Thursday. My friend has been self-isolating in a friend’s BQ since she returned – nobody, including her own family have seen her, but look at”, he tweeted.

Sensational singer, Simi, and her husband have lamented over the poor healthcare system in Nigeria.

Simi took to her Twitter page to state that she had always been scared about the healthcare system in Nigeria and now all citizens have to face the music. Aishat Adedimeji was shot dead

According to a report by Punch Metro, a member of the Onyabo Vigilante Group in Ogijo, identified simply as Shina, is on the run after allegedly shooting to death a hairdresser, Aishat Adedimeji, in Odogunyan, Ikorodu North Local Council Development Area of Lagos State.

It was gathered that Aishat’s lover, Rasheed Owamoyo, and his club members had gone to the Ola Guest House on Ita Oloja Street, Odogunyan, on Sunday when she decided to join them.

After enjoying themselves at the guest house, the club members and Aishat were said to have come out to where their vehicles were parked in front of the guest house when Shina reportedly accosted them around 7pm and allegedly shot the hairdresser in the neck.

The 28-year-old reportedly died on the spot and a picture in possession of our correspondent showed her corpse lying in a pool of her own blood on the road, where the incident happened.

A bullet hole was also seen on Aishat’s neck. The victim was dressed in a white top and a blue jean.

When PUNCH Metro visited the area on Tuesday, the owner of the guest house, Hassan Olanukan, said he immediately apprehended Rasheed’s club member, Akinyemi Okunlola, who was standing beside Aishat during the attack.

Olanukan alleged that the fleeing suspect and Okunlola had issues to settle before the crime was perpetrated.

He said, “They are regular customers but after they took some drinks at my guest house, they left for their cars. I was inside when I suddenly heard a gunshot. I quickly rushed outside and saw the woman lying on the floor; so, I held one of the club members down till the personnel of the Sagamu Police Division came to arrest him. The victim’s boyfriend was also arrested.

“The person, who shot the girl, is a security guard employed to watch over the community and he ran away after committing the crime. He wore a top with the inscription, Onyabo Vigilante Group, and we have confirmed that he is a member of the group. I even went to their base, but he was nowhere to be found.”

Rasheed told our correspondent that he was the one, who invited Aishat to join them at the guest house, but urged the police to intensify efforts to arrest Shina in order for him not to suffer for a crime he did not commit.

When Okunlola was asked about the issue he had with the fleeing suspect, he said, “I was beside Aishat when Shina walked up to me and asked me to give him money. I told him that the money on me was to pay my transport fare home and all of a sudden, he brought out a gun and in an attempt to shoot me, the bullet hit Aishat and killed her.

“I searched everywhere to apprehend him, but he was nowhere to be found. So, the police were informed and I was arrested.”

The hairdresser’s father, Taiwo, said he was at home when someone called him on the telephone to inform him that his daughter had an accident, adding that he got to know that Aishat had been shot dead when he got to the police station.

While urging the police to release his daughter’s corpse for burial in accordance with Islamic rites, the 57-year-old, however, said the fleeing suspect had accused Okunlola of committing adultery with his wife before perpetrating the crime.

The Commander, Vigilante Group of Nigeria, Ogijo Division, Joseph Oduyebo, who noted that rumours had spread that members of his group were responsible for Aishat’s death, said, “Our men assisted the police in evacuating the corpse to the Ikorodu General Hospital mortuary.

“When the incident happened, people started speculating that our members were responsible for the girl’s death, but while working jointly with the police on the case, we discovered that the suspect was a member of the Onyabo Vigilante Group.”

A member of the Onyabo Vigilante Group in Odogunyan, Ojo Yekini, said efforts were on to arrest Shina, whose whereabouts are unknown since he perpetrated the crime.

The Provost Marshal, Onyabo Vigilante Group in Ikorodu, Matthew Adesanya, said, “Shina is not a member of Onyabo, but one of our members, Yekini, employed him to serve as a security guard in a particular place. But if Yekini refuses to produce Shina, he will be handed over to the police.”

When contacted, the state Police Public Relations Officer, Bala Elkana, said, “Our station on Sagamu Road in Ikorodu responded to a distress call and on arrival, our personnel met two persons, who were held down, and one other person was lying down.

“The person who was down was taken to hospital and was confirmed dead, while the two persons held down were brought in for questioning to ascertain what happened, because there was an altercation before the incident.

“We have also identified that the fleeing suspect, who was alleged to have shot the victim, was a member of a vigilante group and we have launched a manhunt for him. The Commissioner of Police in Lagos State, Hakeem Odumosu, has ordered the transfer of the case to the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department, Panti, Yaba, for discreet investigation.”

A cleric has been filmed instructing Coronavirus patients at a hospital in Iran to smell a liquid claiming it will help them while he was seen wearing no mask or gloves.

In the viral video, the cleric claimed the liquid is from ‘the prophet.’

Professor, Steve Hanke, an American economist, who shared the video on Twitter wrote: ‘In #Iran, a cleric walks into a hospital with no protective gear and tells #Coronavirus patients to smell a liquid, claiming it will help them. Barrister Olusegun Bamgbose, the National Coordinator, Concerned Advocates for Good Governance, CAGG, has called on President Muhammadu Buhari to declare a three-day fasting and prayer for Christians and Muslims following the increasing cases of COVID-19 in the country.

There is no doubt that COVID-19 has ingloriously taken a big center stage in the scheme of things globally and Nigeria has experienced a surge as per the infected people with 5 new cases recorded last night.

Schools, churches, government and private institutions are closing down globally.

Bamgbose noted that the devastating effects of the disease are unimaginable, adding that the world seems to be in serious dilemma as to what exactly to do to checkmate this ‘unseen enemy’.

He, however, noted that it will be wrong to rely absolutely on science to be the only solution to this deadly virus, adding “I will expect the Presidency as a matter of urgency to declare 3 days of fasting and prayer nationwide.

“COVID-19 is not beyond God’s intervention. If the virus is beyond God, then He is not the Almighty, but I strongly believe He is still the Almighty God and if we pray, the virus will disappear.

“The 3 days of fasting and prayer should be sit at home, except for those on essential duties. The Moslems and Christians should be practically involved. All hands must be on deck.

“If after the prayer and fasting, nothing tangible happens, then I’ll expect the Presidency to declare the nation an atheist one. I believe God will intervene if we can pray.”

Former Ogun State Commissioner of Youth and Sports, Bukola Olopade, has tested positive for the coronavirus.

Deputy Editor at ThisDay newspapers, Olaleye Olawale, announced this on Thursday via a post on Facebook.

“He is waiting to be taken in for proper care. However, there’s nothing to fret about as he is in very good spirit and hoping to be back home soon,” he wrote.

Mr Olopade had uploaded a video online a few days ago saying he had been in self-isolation since he realised he had symptoms of COVID-19.

“I got tested for COVID-19, I’ve been in self-isolation for five days now. I’ve developed one or two of the symptoms (but) I’m feeling better, I’m feeling stronger, hoping for a very good result in 72 hours. I hope it’s negative,” he said.

He said further, “This video has become essential to let people know that this is real, that’s it is happening and should not underestimate what’s going on out there. They must listen to government and all the publications we’ve been getting about being hygienic, using hand sanitisers and staying at home in terms of social distancing. It’s for real.

“I want to thank the Lagos State Government for their rapid response and manner with which I was attended to. May God help us.”
