Horror! Car Crushes Man To Death While Making Video Call Along Abeokuta-Sagamu Expressway by AngelPrisi(f) : 5:04 am On May 07

File photo

An unidentified man was on Wednesday crushed to death by an Honda Odyssey car marked AAA 589 FV at Adedero village on the Abeokuta -Sagamu expressway in Ogun, NAN reports.

Mr Babatunde Akinbiyi, the Public Relations Officer of Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Corps (TRACE), confirmed the incident to newsmen in Abeokuta.

Akinbiyi said that the accident occurred at about 11a.m.

He explained that the dead male victim, according to an eyewitness, was on video call while crossing the road and got knocked down by the Honda car.

” We learnt a commercial Mazda car in which the deceased was driving in was on its way to Ajah in Lagos from Kuto park in Abeokuta when the driver noticed it had ran out of fuel.

“The driver had to park off the road to go and purchase fuel while the passengers in the vehicle waited for his arrival.

“Since there is a road diversion along the Abeokuta-Siun-Sagamu Interchange due to ongoing reconstruction, the deceased decided to cross to the other side of the road for safety.

“However, when the driver of the Mazda car came back and had refilled the vehicle, the deceased, while crossing the road back to the car was making a video call oblivious of the fact that a vehicle was coming from the Sagamu end to Abeokuta.

“The vehicle, which was an Honda Odyssey, hit him and he died on the spot,” he said.

Akinbiyi said the man’s corpse had been deposited at the morgue of the General Hospital, Ijaiye, Abeokuta.

“Be very careful when you make a woman cry, because God counts her tears” – Actor Mofe Duncan by AngelPrisi(f) : 12:31 am On May 08

Nollywood actor, Mofe Duncan has taken to Instagram to implore men to treat women better.

According to him, a real man never hurts a woman and when you make a woman cry, God counts her tears.

He shared the post alongside a photo of his new girlfriend who he showed off recently, almost a year after he confirmed his divorce from his ex-wife, Jessica Kakkad.

Read below…

“☆ A real man never hurts a woman. Be very careful when you make a woman cry, because God counts her tears. The woman came out of a man’s rib, not from his feet to be walked on, and not from his head to be superior, but from his side to be equal. Under the arm to be protected, and next to the heart to be loved. (Read this somewhere and thought I’d share.) ☆ #NoWomanNoCry • #SeeWomenAsEquals • Why did the bible say “Husbands love your wives” and not the other way around? THINK ABOUT THAT FOR A SECOND? Men just generally need to treat women better period. ☆ #Feminist • #MadeByGod • #RaisedByAWoman ☆ #LifeOfMo 🌟 #ManLikeMofe™ 🌟”

COVID-19: Singapore Deploys Robot ‘Dog’ To Encourage Social Distancing by AngelPrisi(f) : 3:31 am On May 10

In a quest to ensure that people practise social distancing as the world fights against the Coronavirus pandemic, Singapore has announced that henceforth it’ll be deploying robot dogs.

The government on Friday disclosed that it would start deploying Spot, a famous yellow and black canine robot made by BostonDynamics’ at local parks and that the robot “dog” will patrol the local areas broadcasting a pre-recorded message to visitors to remind them of the importance of social distancing.

The robotic dog will be equipped with cameras that will scan the surroundings and help government officials estimate the number of people gathering in parks.

“These cameras will not be able to track and/or recognize specific individuals, and no personal data will be collected,” the government said in a statement.

“Unlike wheeled robots, Spot works well across different terrains and can navigate obstacles effectively, making it ideal for operation in public parks and gardens,” it noted.

According to the government of Singapore, the robotic dog project will run in a limited trial for two weeks at one park during off-peak hours and if all goes well, authorities will consider expanding the program.

Coronavirus Resurfaces In Wuhan, China After A Month by AngelPrisi(f) : 9:00 pm On May 11

Coronavirus Resurfaces In Wuhan, China After A Month

A new case of Coronavirus disease has been reported in Wuhan, China, the city where the outbreak first started in December last year, in over a month.

China’s National Health Commission also reported the first double-digit increase in countrywide cases in nearly 10 days, saying 14 new infections had been confirmed.

Two of the cases were imported into the country from overseas, the commission said.

The coronavirus first emerged in China’s Wuhan, a major industrial and transport city in central China, in December.

It has since infected nearly four million people worldwide  claiming more than 270,000 lives and crippled the global economy.

The total number infected in China is 82,901, with an official death toll of 4,633.

No new deaths have been reported for nearly a month.

China’s ruling Communist Party imposed a quarantine lockdown on tens of millions of people, first in Wuhan and then the rest of Hubei province beginning January 23, making Wuhan the first place in the world subjected to draconian restrictions.

Authorities started lifting restrictions in late March.

China has faced criticism both at home and abroad for downplaying the virus and concealing information about the outbreak when it first emerged in Wuhan.

Beijing has insisted it has always shared information with the World Health Organization and other countries in a timely manner.

A top health official said Saturday, however, that the outbreak exposed “shortcomings” in China’s public healthcare system.

Governor Wike said that the lockdown will be reinstated on Thursday, 14th May, 2020.

He said: “Consequently, we have given due consideration to the propositions on the way forward by well-meaning citizens of the State, and after a cautious review of the situation, decided to implement a partial relaxation of the lockdown measures, to enable residents to have some fresh air and replenish their foodstuffs and medicines.

“To this end, I hereby announce the temporary lifting of the total lockdown on Obio/Akpor and Port Harcourt Local Governments Areas for two days only, with effect from Tuesday 12th May 2020.

“All shops, supermarkets, and malls can open to the public for Tuesday and Wednesday, 12 and 13 May 2020.

” Similarly, all hospitals and banks can also open and provide full services to the public;

“While oil and gas companies are required to submit the list of their staff on essential duties to Government, note that there is no ban on the lifting of petroleum products from depots and other receptacles.

“The total lockdown on Obio/Akpor and Port Harcourt Local Government Areas will be reinstated on Thursday 14th May 2020 and remain until further notice.”

Governor Wike said all other established restrictions under the Executive Orders on social distancing are still in force.

He said: “Compulsory wearing of face mask or scarfs in vehicles and public places;

· closure of all land, sea and air borders and entry routes into the State; and

· closure of all open markets, including slaughters, hotels, guest houses, cinemas, bars and restaurants; and

· ban on gathering, including public burials, weddings, and religious gathering of more than 50 persons.Once again, thank you for your cooperation and understanding.

“Please note that our enemy is invisible. stay at home, maintain social distancing, wash your hands regularly and stay safe.”

He said every measure the State Government has imposed was dictated by an assessment of the state’s situation, the trend of transmission and the conviction that it was the right thing to do in the circumstance.

“As a Government, we are doing our utmost best, in the face of daunting challenges, to prevent COVID-19 from taking hold in Rivers State; to stop any possible community transmission of this disease before it is too late.

“And we shall continue on this trajectory because the alternative would spell a greater disaster for our State and our people.

“More so, when these are not arbitrary measures but fully prescribed and backed by the ordinary laws of our State, especially, Executive Orders numbers: 1 to 6.

“So far, all our measures and actions are not arbitrary but fully prescribed, guided and backed by the ordinary laws of our State, especially Executive Order numbers 1 to 6, which apply equally to all persons throughout the State. As a Government, we are obliged to enforce our laws, and in the present circumstance, we have done so without fear or favour,” he said.

He added: “We equally made it loud and clear that in the fight against COVI/D-19 there would be no sacred cows; no double standards, and no sentiments of any kind, whether political, ethnic, religious, status, emotional or otherwise.

“In the last few days we have pursued with vigour and secured several convictions against those who intentional violated our COVID-19 containment laws in the same way others States are doing.

“The forfeited trucks to be auctioned by the Deputy Sherriff were not confiscated arbitrarily by the State Government, but by the orders of our Courts.”

Governor Wike stated that the demolition of the two hotels in Eleme was done in line with extant laws.

He said: “Similarly, we acted against the hotelier because, apart from using the facility to jeopardize the lives of our citizens in violation of the extant law, the owner audaciously unleashed thugs lead by the Eleme Local Government Youth Leader of the Peoples Democratic Party and inflicted severe injuries on our task-force members who went to enforce the law against the continued operation of the hotel.

” As we speak, nobody knows the fate of the lives of most of the victims of that brazen and deadly attack given the severity of the head injuries they sustained.

:And so, we’ve done no wrong as all our actions were taken in good faith and justified by, under and within the purview of the Executive Orders, which have neither been challenged nor set aside by any competent court of law.”

The Governor said he remains focused on protecting Rivers people.

He said: “Therefore, while we welcome genuine criticisms directed towards strengthening our intervention measures; it is no use joining issues with uninformed critics and social media legal practitioners who, blinded and prodded by sheer politics, bias and hatred, have opted to demonized and paint our lawful and responsible actions in bad light.

“Granted that we may not have totally achieved our targets, but we are convinced that, so far, the lockdown and the other measures have impacted greatly in containing and preventing the onslaught of the pandemic on Rivers State.

“We therefore thank the entire people of Rivers State for the overwhelming understanding you have shown even as you continue to endure the pains of the restrictions on your wellbeing and fundamental freedoms.”
