Goodluck Ebele Jonathan, a former Nigerian President, has met with former Military leaders-Generals Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida and Abdulsalami Abubakar.

He paid a private visit to the former military leaders in Minna, Niger state.

The former president met the two leaders separately in their uphill homes in the afternoon.

Answering questions from Journalists after the meeting, Goodluck Jonathan described the visit as a regular one to the former Elder Statesmen.

“The visit is just the normal regular one especially being the youngest of all the former leaders.

“It is also an opportunity for me to visit General Abdusalami Abubakar who has just come back from a treatment abroad and also took time to visit General Babangida,” he remarked.

At least 10 people died and four were missing after violent storms lashed central Italy, reports said Friday, pushing the issue of climate change up the agenda the week before elections, IgbereTV reports 

Water swept through towns and villages, turning streets into rivers after about 400 millimetres (16 inches) of rain reportedly fell in two hours.

Emergency services initially put the death toll at seven but this rose mid-morning to 10, according to the AGI news agency, citing local authorities.

One of those earlier reported missing was a child travelling in a car. The mother was rescued but the child was washed away by the floodwaters, AGI said.

The fire service said it had 300 people working on the floods and “dozens of people” had been saved overnight after they took refuge on roofs of houses and in trees.

The worst hit area was Ancona, a port city on the Adriatic, where several areas were without electricity or telephone connections. Schools were closed Friday in the affected zones.

The streets of the port town of Senigallia, a little up the coast, were turned into rivers, while aerial footage of the inland hamlet of Pianello di Ostra showed streets caked with mud and cars piled up after being swept away.

The tragedy occurs just days before September 25 general elections, and condolences for those affected poured in from across the political spectrum.

Frontrunner Giorgia Meloni, whose far-right Brothers of Italy party is hoping to become prime minister, offered “full solidarity” with those affected.

The president of the region surrounding Ancona, Marche, is a member of her party.

Extreme climate events

The flooding came after a drought in Italy, and many have drawn the link with climate change — a subject which has taken a back seat during the election campaign.

“How can you think that the fight against climate change is not the first priority?” said Meloni’s main rival, Enrico Letta, head of the centre-left Democratic Party.

He said he was “stunned and speechless” at the news from Marche, saying he was suspending campaigning in the region.

Famous Senegalese-American singer and record producer, Aliaune Damala Badara Akon Thiam, better known as Akon, recently said money brings more problems than comfort.

Now, several reactions have continued to trail the comment.

Reacting to Akon’s statement, many social media users have urged the singer to give them all he has worked for together with the problem.

Recall that the singer, who, in a radio interview, claimed that money does not necessarily buy happiness as it largely depends on what makes one happy, also explained that people who have money do not have time as it makes you lose yourself and takes you away from your family.

Talking from his experience, Akon said he had once tasted poverty before he became rich.

“Believe me, I know what poverty and success looks like, and from my personal experience, I’m having more problems successfully dealing with all that comes with success than I had when I was poor.”

The 49-year-old singer further noted that he was actually happier when he was poor.

In a statement made available to IGBERE TV, the former Commissioner for Works in Ebonyi State said attack is barbaric and anti-people and does not in any way foster Nigeria’s nascent democracy.

I advise Ebonyi people to reject every attempt by the enemies and all haters of peace of the state, to disrupt the minutest peace currently being enjoyed in the state.”

The statement reads,

“I, Engr. Chukwuma Awuregu Nwandugo, the Action Alliance Governorship candidate for the 2023 election, in Ebonyi State, hereby condemn at its entirety the attack on the former Secretary to the Ebonyi State Government and the Governorship candidate of the All Progressives Grand Alliance, Prof Benard Odoh. “I have said it before and I’m saying it now. My Governorship bid is not for Izzi alone. Osun State governor, Adegboyega Oyetola commiserates with Afrobeats legend, Davido over the loss of his son, Ifeanyi.

The politician took to his Twitter page to pen a sympathy note to the singer over the tragic incident.

Governor Oyetola commiserated with Davido and his fiancée, Chioma and prayed that God comforts and provide them with another child who would live long and fulfill his destiny.

He also sympathized with Davido’s father, Dr Deji Adeleke as he stated that as a grandfather himself, he understood how painful the loss is.

His reads;

“Sad to learn of the unfortunate passing of Ifeanyi, son of music star, David Adeleke popularly known as @davido. On behalf of my family and the people of Osun, I sympathise with Davido, over this heart-rending incident.

I know how painful it is to see a boy we all saw last week bubbling with life to now be referred to in the past. I pray God comfort you and Chioma. Rest assured, very soon, God will bless you both with another son who will live long to fulfill his dreams in life.

An American grandmother from Utah has given birth to her son's child.

The woman was a gestational carrier for her son and daughter-in-law and she gave birth to her granddaughter named Hannah.

Hannah's mom, Cambria Hauck, told TODAY Parents back in September that she could not carry another pregnancy after previously delivering two sets of twins.

After Cambria's last delivery, she developed placenta increta (when the placenta remains in the uterus) and had an emergency hysterectomy.

Cambria and Jeff had planned to use their stored embryos from past fertility treatments for another baby, but as Cambria didn't want to risk her life.

That's when her husband, Jeff's 56-year-old mother Nancy Hauck stepped in.

Nancy, a mother-of-five, told TODAY Parents: "I could just feel this calling to offer to carry for them.

"I knew I was too old. I knew it wasn’t going to be possible, even though that’s exactly what’s happened. I just felt I needed to tell them I would be willing to do it."

In October 2021, Nancy made a generous proposal to her son and daughter-in-law.

"When Nancy came to us, I know most people would probably be like, ‘Oh my gosh, that’s crazy,’ but it didn’t feel like that," Cambria told TODAY Parents.

"There was just so much peace around the whole conversation and around the whole experience."

After medical evaluations, doctors determined Nancy was a "good candidate" despite her age.

She became pregnant after an embryo transfer and delivered Hannah on Nov. 2, 2022.

"She is here and my heart could explode," Hannah's mom, Cambria Hauck, wrote on Instagram Friday, Nov. 4, sharing a video of her mother-in-law Nancy Hauck giving birth while surrounded by family. "She is perfect in every way."

Nancy told People that she was in labor for nine hours.

When Hannah arrived, she weighed 7 pounds, 12 ounces and was 19 1/2 inches long.

"Everything went perfectly and we are feeling so blessed to have her in our family,” she said, adding that she is "facing new emotions of having a baby, but not bringing the baby home with me afterwards."

Cambria called Hannah's birthday "sacred" because she arrived during Día de los Muertos (aka, Day of the Dead), a holiday widely celebrated in Mexico by people as a way to celebrate their deceased family members.

"And her ancestors on both sides had a HUGE part in getting her here," Cambria wrote on Instagram.

"Not only that, but she was carried and brought into the world by her sweet nana, her ancestor. Nothing is a coincidence, and her birth date is not a coincidence either." Cambria added that Nancy is "amazing in every way."
