The United States joined Athens on Monday in strongly condemning Iran’s seizure of two Greek-flagged oil tankers in Gulf waters and demanding their immediate release, calling the abductions a “threat to maritime security,†IgbereTV reportsÂ
US Secretary of State Antony Blinken and Greek Foreign Minister Nikos Dendias agreed in a call “that Iran must immediately release the seized vessels, their cargoes, and their crews,†State Department spokesman Ned Price said in a statement.

The Prelate of Methodist Church Nigeria, His Eminence Samuel Uche, has revealed that the Fulani herdsmen who kidnapped him and others tortured him such that he nearly lost his sight after hitting his right eye on a tree.
The cleric who narrated his near-death experience in the hands of kidnappers said they were eight in number, all Fulani herders, with one who claimed to have been born in Abia State.
The Prelate, his chaplain, Very Rev. Abidemi Shittu, and the Bishop of Owerri, Rt. Rev. Dennis Mark were abducted on Sunday along the Enugu-Port Harcourt Expressway in the Umunneochi Local Government Area of Abia State.
Uche, who recounted his experience at a press conference held at Methodist Church, Yaba, Lagos State, on Tuesday, alleged that some military personnel from the North were aiding the kidnappers in their activities in the region.
The Prelate said, “These people came out from the bush; they divided themselves into 3 places; some people fired at us and there was another group in front to make sure that we didn’t run away; they fired shots at our vehicle and eventually, they abducted 3 of us.

“The communication man of the church was able to escape, the driver was able to escape; they abducted me, the bishop of Owerri and my chaplain and they took us to the bush and were torturing us. It was in the process of that torture that I hit my right eye on a tree. Even when blood was flowing and I was soaking my eyes with a handkerchief, they didn’t feel like anything happened.
“All they said was that we should follow them; that they were not actually against Nigerian citizens but against the government, that the government is a bad government.
“They are Fulani boys; all the 8 are Fulanis; they said the day they will see the president or any of his representatives they will chew him raw; that he is their brother but he has disappointed them and has disappointed Nigeria.
“I said even though I’m part of the government, I’m a churchman, I’m not a government official; they said okay, that is what has saved you, we would have killed you outright without asking for any ransom but now that you are a churchman, let’s go inside the bush.
“I trekked up for to 15 kilometres but I knew that we were rigmaroling, going up, going down and eventually at 11 pm they said okay now we can negotiate; each of us will pay N50 million and we are going to pay N150 million. I thought it was a joke; I said we were going to pay N10 million and they said what? Don’t say that; they lifted their knife to cut me, I said please hold on.â€
According to the cleric, the leader of the group is about 35 years old while the others are about 18.
He said they had taken his rings, chain, and the money they had on them and insisted on N150 million ransom.
The clergyman said the abductors later reduced the ransom to N100 million, warning that if they negotiate, they would be killed.
“I said okay. We will pay you N100 million. After some time, they said where is the money and I said this is Sunday night, how can we get money this night and you know that there is this sit-at-home in Igbo land. We can’t afford the money now, be patient till morning, we will make contacts.â€
Uche said the kidnappers lost patience, laid Bishop Dennis Mark down, raised a knife to cut him, while another pointed a gun at him (prelate) to show that they were serious,
“I told them we will raise the money for you. But the irony of it, where they were situated, the soldiers, all of Fulani extraction, Nigerian soldiers, they were there at Lomara junction and these boys were going behind them. Meanwhile, they kept their cows somewhere, numbering about 200.
He said some people were taking care of the cows while the abductors were parading them around the bush until they settled at a place,
“They said ‘when are you bringing the money?’ I said by 12 noon, I will call the people I’ve contacted whether the money had been raised and I called them, they said that they were gathering the money and they heard it because they said I will use my phone to talk, they can’t use their phone, they don’t want to be tracked.Â
“Their leader was born in Igbo land but his parents have died. He said he was born around Umuahia Amuzukwu and his father was a cow dealer, the boy understood Igbo,†he said.Â
He said the leader threatened to kill them if they informed security operatives when they had raised the ransom of N100 million.
The leader asked them to buy 5 ‘Ghana must go’ bags and put N20 million in each bag. They left to pick the ransom while four others stayed behind with guns.
He said, “Around 5. 30pm, the youngest boy who I think is a younger brother to their commander said ‘Oga, congratulations, you are free, you can go now. We have got our money, you can go. Let me show you the road’.
“They took us to Old road, where they wrote ‘welcome to Imo’ and ‘goodbye from Abia’.Â
“They told us that after buying enough weapons, they were going to bring all those people that were driven away from Zamfara, Katsina, Sambisa Forest, that they are all coming to locate themselves in Igbo land and deal with us.
“He said do you know Ibadan expressway? We are in all the bush there, we are also in the South-South, we are waiting for the slightest signal, we will finish you people and take over this land. They claimed that Nigeria belongs to Fulani.â€
The priest maintained that military personnel of Fulani extraction were aiding the kidnappers who disguise as herders in the daytime but are kidnappers at night.
He called on the government to take a decisive action “otherwise what is happening in the north will be a child’s playâ€.Â
He said it was the Methodist Church Nigeria and members of the church that made efforts to secure his release and not security agencies of the government.

A gunman opened fire inside an Iowa church parking lot on Thursday evening, June 2, killing two young women before turning the gun on himself.
The shooting took place in the parking lot of the Cornerstone Church in Ames, Iowa, shortly before 7pm as a youth ministry program was taking place inside the church.
A statement from a representative of the church characterized the victims as being 'young members' of the church community, though their ages are not known. It is believed the gunman shot himself.
The representative described the shooter as an 'adult male.'

Don’t Let God Punish You – Nkechi Blessing Blasts Omokri
Nkechi Blessing, the popular Nollywood actress, has hit out at ex-aide to former President Goodluck Jonathan, Reno Omokri, after being compared to the National leader of the All Progressive Congress (APC), Asiwaju Bola Tinubu.
Omokri, while reacting to the viral video of Tinubu where he took the credit for Buhari’s emergence in 2015, likened the former Lagos State Governor to Blessing and another Nollywood actress, Tonto Dikeh.
He claimed Tinubu behaves like Blessing and Tonto Dikeh, who are exploding on the internet after they were promised marriage but never got to the altar.
Omokri wrote on Twitter: “Tinubu is just behaving like Tonto Dikeh and Nkechi Blessing. Like a woman who was promised marriage and jilted and is now exploding and exposing the jilter. Buhari don buy market. He either builds another ‘other room’ for Tinubu, or marries him as promised!â€
In response to Omokri’s jab, Blessing said Omokri should not allow God to punish him, adding that he doesn’t have common sense.

A couple have been mauled to death by a sloth bear who also devoured their bodies in a savage forest killing.
Mukesh Rai and his wife Gudiya were walking home through a wooded area in Panna, India, when they spotted the beast.
Mukesh, 43, and Gudiya, 39, reportedly attempted to confront the bear before the brutal attack at around 6.30am on Sunday, June 5.
The bear is understood to have dragged their bodies towards a river before feasting on them for more than four hours.
Cops then arrived on the scene and it took officials a further two hours to tranquilise and capture the beast.
The bear has been transported to a zoo and the couple's dependents have been given financial assistance of 400,000 Rupee.
Divisional Forest Officer Gaurav Sharma told DNA India: "The animal will not be released in the forest and we plan to send it to some zoo in another city."
Elvis Romario, a member of the National Youth Service Corps, NYSC, has recounted how men of the Nigeria Police Force, Rivers State command, assaulted him and extorted N191,000 from him.
This is coming few hours after a media influencer known as Yemi lamented the extortion of N400,000 from him by policemen in same Rivers State.
Yemi had told SaharaReporters that he was handcuffed by the officers like a criminal and forced to transfer N400,000 to one Tony Anyim with OPay account number 8134448195.
Narrating the incident in a series of tweets, the influencer had said, “Good evening, I just got picked up by SARS yesterday they picked me up from a Bolt with my guys, paid the Bolt guy and told him to leave, told us to enter a Sienna. They checked my phone and my guys’, saw nothing then they checked my balance from my Gmail.
“After driving a distance, they dropped my guys and told me to stay, kept slapping me calling me a Yahoo boy (fraudster) and handcuffed me. They took me to a place and told me to pay N5 million. I said I didn’t have. They then told me to make calls and used a recorder to record me where they forced me to admit I was a Yahoo boy and I wanted to give them N2 million to be free.â€
He said they later said they were taking him to Bayelsa, adding that by that time, he had been with them for four hours and that the time was around 7pm.
He said he was told they could take him inside a bush and no one would know what happened to him.
“After much begging, I was forced to pay N400,000 after which I was dropped on the road in another state.
“They waited till the alert came, then they deleted it. Gave me N500 to go home, took my number and said they’d call,†Yemi had narrated on Twitter.
Reacting to the post with a video of one of the officers, Romario said, “This happened to me too at that same Elele road yesterday. They took me to Ahoada and withdrew everything inside my bank account (170k) and also took the 21k in my pocket. I pretended to be making a call while he was busy counting the money and I took a video of him.
“They don’t care what you have to say, as long as you have money in your account, they’ll take it. If you try to be stubborn on that lonely road, na your body go tell you. For those wondering, Ramsay Hunt syndrome (herpes zoster oticus) occurs when a shingles outbreak affects the facial nerve near one of your ears.
In addition to the painful shingles rash, Ramsay Hunt syndrome can cause facial paralysis and hearing loss in the affected ear.

It is understood the report was paid for privately by the Queen and conducted by an independent law firm.
The inquiry launched after an email from Meghan's former press secretary, sent in October 2018 and later leaked to The Times, cast doubt on her behaviour.
Jason Knauf wrote he was "very concerned" that Meghan "was able to bully two PAs out of the household".
He described her alleged behaviour as “totally unacceptableâ€, adding that “the Duchess seems intent on always having someone in her sights [and] I remain concerned that nothing will be doneâ€.
A pair of senior staff members also claimed to have been bullied by Meghan early last year.
The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge have a new reason to be proud of their eldest son, Prince George. It has been revealed that the eight-year-old royal organized a cake sale during lockdown to raise money for a conservation charity.
Charlie Mayhew, chief executive of Tusk, told GB News that George, who turns nine next months, wrote a "very sweet card about it" telling of his concern for endangered animals in Africa.
"Prince George very sweetly did a little cake sale to raise money for Tusk during lockdown and wrote a very sweet card about it, clearly demonstrating his concern for Africa's wildlife," Mr. Mayhew revealed.
It's clear that George is following in his father's footsteps, sharing the same passion for animals. Prince William, who is the patron of Tusk and a prominent campaigner on environmental issues, has previously spoken publicly of how he is not willing to look his children in the eye and tell them it was his generation that let wildlife such as elephants and tigers go extinct "on our watch".
