Muhammed Soliu, a 25-year-old boutique owner, has been sent to jail.

The young man, from Woru, Ilorin East Local Government Area of Kwara State, bagged an 18 month jail term over offences bordering on internet fraud.

He reportedly benefitted over N28m from the illegal internet business he was involved in.

Justice Ibrahim Yusuf of the Kwara State High Court in Ilorin found Muhammed guilty on the three-count charges levelled against him by the Ilorin Zonal Command of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC.

He consequently pronounced a prison term of 6 months on each count, to run concurrently.

Muhammed’s journey to prison started on August 2, 2022, when operatives of the EFCC, while acting on intelligence on the infamous activities of some internet fraudsters in Ilorin, the state capital traced him to his house located at the Oke-Ose area of the metropolis, where he was arrested.

A statement by the Media Unit of the anti-graft agency in Ilorin on Friday said investigations into the case by the Commission revealed that Muhammed, in the course of his illegal deals benefited over N28 million, part of which he used to build a house, establish a boutique and purchase a Toyota Camry Car.

The defendant pleaded guilty when the three-count charges were read to him.

Justice Yusuf, while sentencing the convict, fined him N100,000 on each count.

The judge also ordered the forfeiture of a 3 bedroom bungalow located at Yangamu, Oke-Ose, Ilorin, a Toyota Camry Car with registration number KSF 846 HG; 78 pieces of new clothes recovered at his boutique; one standing fan; the sum of N1,482,516.90 proceeds of the crime found in the convict’s bank account and the two phones, which he used to perpetrate a crime to the Federal Government.

Tristan Thompson has reportedly made no attempt to see his 8-month-old son with Maralee Nichols but he has been paying child support amid their family court battle.

The basketball player, 31, “is paying, and has paid, child support to Ms. Nichols retroactive to the date she delivered the child,” an attorney for Thompson told Page Six.

Earlier this year, a rep for Nichols, who gave birth to Theo on December 1, 2021, said in a statement that Thompson had “done nothing” and provided zero “financial assistance.”

At least 22 people were killed and dozens wounded in a Russian rocket strike on a Ukrainian train station on Wednesday, August 24, Ukranian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy said, as his nation marked the anniversary of its independence from the Soviet Union.


Zelenskiy had warned of Russian attacks on Independence Day, which is also six months since Russian forces invaded Ukraine, Europe's most devastating conflict since World War Two.


In a video addressed to the United Nations Security Council on Wednesday, Zelenskiy said the rockets hit a train in the small town of Chaplyne, some 145 km (90 miles) west of Russian-occupied Donetsk in eastern Ukraine. Four carriages were on fire, he said.

Olivia died and her mother was injured following a shooting on Monday night August 22, in Dovecot, Liverpool, UK.



Olivia’s mother Cheryl had opened their front door upon hearing some noise outside around 10pm.






A 35-year-old man, being chased by a man with a gun, ran into the house. A stray bullet hit Olivia and, despite the best efforts of paramedics, she later died in hospital.


Merseyside Police say the 35-year-old man who was being targeted by the gunman has now been arrested for breaching the terms of his release from prison.

The 19 northern governors and all the traditional rulers in the region have called for the amendment of the 1999 Constitution to give legal backing to state police. 

They said this was the only way to tackle the myriad security challenges affecting the region and the country at large, among them banditry, insurgency, kidnapping and other forms of criminalities.

This recommendation was contained in the communiqué issued at the end of the meeting of the Northern Governors Forum (NGF) and the Northern Traditional Rulers Council (NTRC) held Monday night in Abuja. 

The outcome of the meeting was released yesterday and it was the first time the northern governors, sitting together with traditional leaders in the region, made a strong case for the need to allow states to establish police forces. 

Governors and other political leaders from the South, and a few others from the North were more vocal in advocating for state police, a move dismissed in some quarters on the grounds that when established, those paying the bills to maintain the state police would abuse it by deploying the security outfit against those opposing them.

Monday’s meeting by the northern leaders was held to among other issues “Review the state of security in the North and other matters relating to its progress and the development of the region.” 

At the meeting were chairman of NGF and Plateau State governor, Simon Bako Lalong; Gombe State governor, Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya; Katsina State governor, Aminu Bello Masari; Kaduna State governor, Nasir El-Rufai; Kebbi State governor, Abubakar Atiku Bagudu; Borno State governor, Babagana Umara Zulum; Niger State governor, Abubakar Sani Bello; Taraba State governor, Darius Dickson Ishaku; and deputy governors of Adamawa, Benue, Nasarawa and Jigawa states respectively. 

Traditional rulers present included the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar III; Shehu of Borno, Alhaji Abubakar Ibn Umar Garbai El-Kanemi; Emir of Kano, Alhaji Aminu Ado Bayero; Emir of Zazzau, Ambassador Ahmed Nuhu Bamalli; Emir of Fika, Alhaji Muhammadu Abali Ibn Muhammadu Idrissa; Emir of Lafia, Justice Sidi Bage Muhammad; Emir of Anka, Alhaji Attahiru Muhammad Ahmad, Emir of Gumi, Justice Lawal Hassan Gumi; Attah Igala, Mathew Opaluwa; Ochi’Idoma, Pastor John Elaigwu; and Aku Uka of Wukari, Elder Manu Ishaku Adda Ali, among others. 

Reading the communiqué after the meeting held at the Transcorp Hilton Abuja, NGF Chairman, Lalong said the meeting reviewed the security situation in the North and other matters relating to its development and resolved to support the amendment of the 1999 Constitution to accommodate the establishment of state police. 

According to him, “This will effectively and efficiently address the security challenges of the region,” the communiqué said. 

Agitations for decentralising the Nigerian Police Force have remained a subject of discourse with those in its favour saying it has become practically impossible to police a country the size of Nigeria from Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory.

Considering that the decentralisation would require an amendment of the constitution, the security situation had led to the formation of many states, regional and local security networks by state governors, local government chairmen and groups. 

Daily Trust reports that one of the resolutions of the 2014 National Confab was a restructured Nigeria with state police to strengthen security in the country.
