A Lagos Magistrate’s Court sitting in Igbosere docked a leader of Ikeoluwa Plantain market identified as Adeshina Oyegunle for allegedly defrauding traders at the market of the sum of N40,160,000 between 2015 and 2019 in Lagos.

Ikeoluwa Plantain market is located near Owode Onirin, Mile 12 in Lagos state.

Oyegunle was arraigned on Monday alongside three others, Kalamu Isa Iyanda, 52, Akeem Oyedeji, 52, and Sunday Oluyemi, 47 before Magistrate Miss M.F.Onamusi on a six-count charge of fraud, stealing and malicious damage of properties.

Police prosecutor, CSP Charles Onwumere told the court the accused persons committed the offence with others still at large between 2015 and 2019 along Ikorodu Road, Lagos.

Onwumere told the court that the accused used his position as the Baba Oloja, in charge of Ikeoluwa plantain market to defraud the traders in the market of the sum of N40,160,000 and also damage properties valued N30m.

The police also accused the market leader and others of damaging properties valued N30m belonging to one Abidemi Abass Jayeola.

The defendants however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.

Magistrate, Miss Onamusi granted them bail in the sum of N500,000 each with two sureties each in like sum.

She adjourned the case till March 6, 2020.

A 16-year-old boy, Cameron, from Fareham, near Portsmouth, hung himself after being bullied at school for coming out as gay.

Cameron who struggled with autism and depression, came out as gay when he was a 12-year-old. His heartbroken mother, Kerry Warwick claims he was bullied by pupils at his school, with other boys even throwing things at him during lunch breaks.

His mental state continued to deteriorate after failing to get the GCSE grades in maths he needed to get into a gaming programming course at college.

Kerry Warwick said young Cameron had started self-harming as a result of the school bullying.

His mum Warwick speaking at the inquest hearing said: “They would bully him and isolate him. They would throw things like food at him, trip him up in the corridor, and call him horrible names like ‘autistic f***’

“The bullies would prey on the fact he was gay. He was ostracised, with pupils refusing to sit with him and calling him names.

“By Year 10, he had resigned himself to the bullying.”

Cameron was found dead in the woods last September, after failing to turn up to Fareham Academy where he was to study a computer science course.

At an inquest into his death, it was revealed that Cameron had also experienced a breakdown after ending an online romantic relationship with 18 year old Christopher Robertson.

Christopher talking at the inquest hearing said: “I believe Cameron was relentlessly bullied at school by other students for coming out as gay.”

Bill Ashcroft, Cameron’s school mate said to Sun UK : “One boy at school told him he was ugly.

He added: “He didn’t keep his mental health a secret, if something was wrong he would always talk to us about it.”

At Portsmouth Coroner’s Court, the Coroner Jason Pegg recorded Cameron’s death as a suicide.

He said: “Cameron had this background of autism – which resulted in bullying at times. Not only did he take his own life, he intended to do so.”

Vanessa Bryant, the wife of late NBA Legend, Kobe Bryant has sued the company that owned the doomed helicopter that killed her husband and daughter alonsgide seven others when it crashed on Sunday Jan. 26th.

Bryant, 41, and his 13-year-old daughter Gigi were on their way to a basketball practice when the helicopter they were in crashed, killing everyone on board.

In the lawuit obatained by TMZ, it was alleged that Island Express was only allowed to fly under visual flight rules, and the conditions the day of the crash were not conducive for such flying.

The lawsuit also says the pilot was going 180 miles per hour in the heavy fog in a steep decline.

The lawsuit claims the pilot failed to properly monitor and assess the weather prior to takeoff, failed to obtain proper weather data prior to the flight, failed to abort the flight when he knew of the cloudy condition, failed to maintain control of the helicopter and failed to avoid “natural obstacles” in the flight path.

The lawsuit also says the pilot, Ara George Zobayan, was disciplined in 2015 for violating the visual flight rule minimums by flying into an airspace of reduced visibility.

The lawsuit also claims the helicopter was not safe, although it doesn’t say what was unsafe. It could be the basis for the claim is that the helicopter was not certified to fly in bad weather.

According to TMZ, the lawsuit does not list an amount of damages sought, but Vanessa is asking for punitive damages, claiming the pilot and Island Express were reckless, and the damages could be untold millions.

The Niger State Police Command has arrested a 32-year-old mother of two identified as Hassan Bala of Usuba for the attempted kidnap of one Umar Sarkin Turaku of Kawo village in Kontagora Local Government Area of the state.

Hassan who was arrested after a tip-off, joined the kidnapping business after a friend introduced it to her. She allegedly planned to abduct Turaku on February 19, 2020, but her prospective victim reported the incident to the police before the plan was executed.

Turaku reportedly filed a complaint with the police after receiving threatening phone calls, asking him to pay a ransom of N5million or risk being kidnapped.

Confessing to the crime, the mother of two said;

“After separating from my husband, I got a man friend who introduced me to this business, and that was how I started ruining my life because of money. I am a disgrace to womanhood. Since I left my husband, my life and situation have worsened. Life is not fair to me in all standards. It is unfortunate. I regret my action; my family, children and friends will definitely desert me, but I pray they find a place in their hearts to forgive me.”

Niger State Police spokesman, Muhammad Abubakar told newsmen that the suspect who has already confessed to the crime will be charged to court after the conclusion of investigation.

Ibrahim Magu, acting chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, has insisted that the raging Corona virus is caused by corruption.

According to Magu, some lab scientists many have also created the Lassa fever and Ebola viruses with an intention to destroy other people’s lives. “It is created by a corrupt mind,” he said.

Igbere TV learnt that the acting EFCC boss said this on Tuesday at the Commission’s headquarters in Abuja.

“Yes, I insist (on) what I said before. Honestly speaking, this virus must have been created by somebody with a corrupt mind,” Mr Magu said.

“Even the Ebola virus was caused by somebody who is wicked enough to create problems for another country.

“There is no ‘better corrupt mind’ than a person who would just sit down in a laboratory and create a virus that would kill a fellow human being.

The EFCC boss had earlier said he believed that the virus was caused by corruption during the passing out parade of 281 cadets of the EFCC Detective Inspector Course-5, at the Nigerian Defence Academy, Kaduna, on Tuesday.

His statement elicited widespread criticisms from Nigerians who questioned the intelligence of such a comment, forcing the EFCC to issue a disclaimer on social media which it immediately deleted.

Justice Fadima Murtala Aminu of the Federal High Court, sitting in Gusau, Zamfara State, on Tuesday, granted the prayers of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, for the final forfeitures of N60, 000, 000 (Sixty Million Naira) cash recovered from Murtala Muhammad.

Igbere TV gathered that the Commission’s Sokoto Zonal Office had on Tuesday, May 28, 2019, arrested Muhammad who was conveying the amount in four ‘Ghana-must-go’ bags inside a Black Land Cruiser Prado Jeep with registration No: DKA 67 PX (Kaduna), at No.145 Igala Hausing Estate, off By-pass Road Gusau, Zamfara State.

The 39-year-old announced his father’s death on Wednesday on his Instagram page.

He captioned the demise post on his Instagram page saying:

Russian superstar, Maria Sharapova has announced her retirement from tennis at the age of 32.

The five-times grand slam champion and former world No 1 confirmed her retirement today in an emotional essay on vanityfair.com.

“How do you leave behind the only life you’ve ever known? How do you walk away from the courts you’ve trained on since you were a little girl, the game that you love – one which brought you untold tears and unspeakable joys – a sport where you found a family, along with fans who rallied behind you for more than 28 years?

“I’m new to this, so please forgive me. Tennis – I’m saying goodbye.”

“Looking back now, I realize that tennis has been my mountain. My path has been filled with valleys and detours, but the views from its peak were incredible.

“After 28 years and five Grand Slam titles, though, I’m ready to scale another mountain – to compete on a different type of terrain.

“That relentless chase for victories, though? That won’t ever diminish. No matter what lies ahead, I will apply the same focus, the same work ethic, and all of the lessons I’ve learned along the way.

“In the meantime, there are a few simple things I’m really looking forward to: A sense of stillness with my family. Lingering over a morning cup of coffee. Unexpected weekend getaways. Workouts of my choice (hello, dance class!)”

The Russian won her first Grand Slam at Wimbledon in 2004 at the age of 17 and completed the career slam, all four major titles by winning the French Open in 2012.

In 2016, she tested positive for meldonium and was given a two-year ban which was later reduced to 15 months from the sport. After returning from her ban in 2017, Sharapova struggled with form and injuries.

She also dropped to 373 in the world rankings, her lowest ranking since August 2002, and has lost in the first round of her previous three Grand Slam tournaments.

Job and Tokeme

According to a report by Punch Metro, policemen have arrested a fake cop, Monday Job, for allegedly posing as a riot policeman to escort people conveying contraband goods from Cotonou in Benin Republic to Lagos State.

The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Bala Elkana, said policemen on duty arrested the suspect, adding that during interrogation, he could not state the squadron he was attached to.

He added that Job would be charged for the crime.

Elkana stated, “On February 10, 2020, around 8am, policemen on enforcement of the ban on motorcycles in restricted areas arrested one Monday Job, 32, at Oshodi, while riding a motorcycle and fully dressed in riot police uniform. A close look at his name tag and badge gave room for further probing. He could not give a satisfactory account of himself and the squadron he was attached to. In the course of investigation, he confessed to being an impersonator.

“It was revealed that he had been wearing the uniform to commit criminal activities, including the illegal escort of contraband goods from Cotonou to Lagos, escorting of vehicles from Lagos to other parts of the country, intimidating, harassing and extorting money from innocent members of the public while claiming to be a riot policeman. An investigation is ongoing and the suspect will be charged when the investigation is concluded.”

In another development, a commercial cab driver, Matthew Tokeme, has been arrested by men of the Lagos State Police Command for allegedly using his Sienna vehicle with number plate APP 488 FH to rob his passengers of their valuables in the state.

PUNCH Metro gathered that Tokeme perpetrated the crime in connivance with three others, who are still at large.

The father of four met his waterloo when he and his gang members robbed a passenger, who memorised his number plate and supplied the information to the police for investigation.

Policemen traced the number plate to the house where he was arrested.

Elkana said Tokeme would be charged, adding that efforts were on to arrest the fleeing members of his gang.

The PPRO stated, “On February 3, 2020, around 5am, information received from members of the public revealed that some armed robbers were sighted along the Agidingbi Road, Ikeja, operating in a Toyota Sienna with number plate APP 488 FH, robbing unsuspecting victims of their valuables.

“On the receipt of the information, operatives of the RRS, who had been on the lookout for the said vehicle, swung into action. The vehicle was intercepted and one Matthew Tokeme, 50, who is the leader of the robbery gang and also the owner of the vehicle, was arrested. He confessed to being the leader of the ‘one chance’ robbery gang. An investigation is ongoing to apprehend the other gang members at large.”

When asked how he got the vehicle, Tokeme was quoted to have said, “My friend, who is based in Germany, bought the car for me to be using for commercial purposes. He bought the car for me because he realised that my business was not going on well. But I started using the car for ‘one chance’ and was operating between Abule-Egba and Ijaiye from 5am to 6am.

“I started this operation about two weeks ago and I have collected a laptop and phone from the people I robbed. I sold the phone for N5,000 and the laptop for N20,000.”

Meanwhile, one Godwin Michael, 23; and Kazeem Abiodun, 30, have been arrested for allegedly robbing traders at the Agbara Market on the Lagos-Badagry Expressway.
