IgbereTV reports that a woman, her daughter and a vulcaniser on Saturday suffered varying degrees of burns after a petrol-laden tanker fell and exploded at Atatun, Ijaiye-Tutun, in Abeokuta on Friday evening.

According to an eyewitness, the victims were immediately rushed to the Federal Medical Centre, Idi-Aba, Abeokuta.

No fewer than five houses and several shops were burnt in the incident.

IgbereTV captured more photos from the Boko Haram attack in Garkida Community in Gombi Local Government Area of Adamawa State on 21st February, 2020.

According to IgbereTV reports, the attack left several were houses burnt, which includes those of prominent sons of Garkida, Gen. Paul Tarfa (rtd) among others. Market places, EYN, Living Faith and Anglican churches were also burnt.

A rural health center was also destroyed; 2 ambulances belonging to the rural center were also burnt while another 2 were taken by the insurgents.

A police station and a barrack were burnt. Two soldiers were reported killed.

The Nigerian Customs Service (NCS) has issued a warning to shop owners that are still selling foreign rice despite the closure of land borders across the country.

This warning was issued by customs area comptroller in charge of Kano/Jigawa, Ahmed Nasir who made it known via a letter with reference number NCS/KAN/053/S.28 and dated February 17, 2020.

Ahmed Nasir said the aim of the border closure is to put an end to smuggling activities across the country.

“In our effort to suppress smuggling, the Nigerian Customs Service Kano/Jigawa area command deemed it fit to write and seek for your cooperation to stop patronising foreign rice and other prohibited items in your supermarket/shops to avoid being closed by customs operatives,” the statement read.

Singer, Davido has revealed attempts by social media hackers to compromise his twitter account via the same micro blogging platform.

Attempts to take over Davido’s twitter account happened barely two weeks after hackers took over famous street-pop musician, Azeez Fashola aka Naira Marley‘s Twitter account.

Davido who has over 6.2 million followers on his twitter account clearly knows the implication of losing the social profile that has been very useful for him over time.

The singer who uses the medium for promoting his songs and brands was furious after detecting the intrusive attempts and he quickly raised alarm about the unauthorized attempts to take over his account via a tweet in the early hours of Sunday, 22nd of February.

Former Presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar has called for the reform of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS), days after a Remo Stars player identified as Kazeem Tiyamiyu (Kaka) was allegedly killed by some operatives of the security outfit deployed to Sagamu-Abeokuta road.

In his tweet, the former Vice President stated that the reform of the Nigeria Police especially the SARS unit, is long overdue. He added that the police was created to protect the life and property of citizens and not to put them into harms way.

The Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB), has said that the act establishing the Board forbids it from unilaterally assigning candidates to tertiary institutions as it is not only illegal to do so but it is tantamount to usurping the rights of the candidates to choose which institution and programme they want to enrol in.

This was made known by the Registrar of JAMB, Prof Ishaq Oloyede during a visit by some proprietors of Innovative Enterprise Institutes (IEIs) who requested the Registrar to post candidates to their institutes owing to a dearth of candidates and low subscription to IEIs.

The proprietors, who wrote through the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) to see the Registrar, were at the Headquarters of the Board, Bwari, to hold talks with the Registrar on issues bordering on admission timetable, cutoff marks and making National Innovative Diploma (NID) as qualifications for Direct Entry (DE), among other issues. The Registrar, while responding to their list of demands, reminded them that the decision on the sequence and conduct of the 2019/2020 Admission was resolved at the Policy Meeting with many IEIs in attendance where they opted for a much later period to conduct their admission.

Prof. Oloyede explained that it was possible to conduct all admissions simultaneously with the rich features and functionality of the Central Admissions Processing System (CAPS) but he reminded the IEIs that they had opted to wait till the other tiers would have completed their admissions before they would commence their own exercise.

The Registrar added that universities and other strata of institutions were given the opportunity to commence their admission process after the release of WAEC /NECO results, hence the commencement of all admissions in August.

On the issue of selling the 2020 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) application documents while the IEIs admission was ongoing, the Registrar reminded the delegation that the arrangement was to address their peculiarities. He stated that the practice before he came on board was for the application documents to be sold in November but he stopped that and had moved the sale to January to allow the IEIs and other institutions conclude their admissions.

Prof. Oloyede added that the commencement of the sale of application documents was simply to kick-start the arrangements for the 2020 UTME. He said, to that end, preparatory meetings with examination bodies to harmonise their examination timetables to prevent clashes had been held. He added that the WAEC starts on 6 April 2020, followed by NECO and NABTEB meaning that JAMB must conduct its UTME before 6 April, 2020.

The memorial service for Kobe Brayant and his daughter Gianna is currently holding at Staples Center with thousands of people in attendance including famous celebrities.

The NBA legend, 41, with his 13-year-old daughter tragically died along with seven others when the helicopter they were travelling in crashed near Calabasas, California on Sunday, Jan. 26th.

They were on their way to basketball practice when the helicopter they were in crashed, killing everyone on board.

During Donald Trump’s visit to India on Monday, February 24, the US President gave a special mention to cricket greats Sachin Tendulkar and Virat Kohli. However, he stumbled over their names.

In a speech during a rally with the prime minister, Narendra Modi, at the Sardar Patel Stadium in Ahmedabad – the world’s largest cricket stadium – Trump incorrectly pronounced the name of India’s greatest ever player Sachin Tendulkar.

Viewers noticed this and took to Twitter to comment on it.

“Something about Donald Trump’s pronunciation of Sachin Tendulkar tells me he isn’t a huge cricket fan,” @AndySilke wrote in reaction to the video.

The US President also has a problem pronouncing Virat Kohli’s name, an error Twitter users feel a president shouldn’t make, since he should have been prepared by practising the pronunciation of the names ahead of his speech.

Reacting to Trump’s error, Cricket’s governing body, the International Cricket Council, jokingly asked on its Twitter account whether anyone knew if “Sooch-“, “Sutch-“, or other variations of Tendulkar’s first name were correct.

Trump also stumbled over other words, including Ahmedabad ( which he pronounced as Ahba-bard) and the word for tea-seller – chaiwalla –, which he pronounced as “cheewalla”, and he himself chuckled at his attempt to pronounce the name of Hindu monk Swami Vivekananda ( which he pronounced as Swami Vivekamandan”).
