The All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) in the forthcoming governorship elections in Anambra State, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo has said the State loses N19.6 billion every day that it is locked down, Igbere TV reports.
Soludo stated this at an enlarged meeting with Anambra State Elders and Stakeholders Forum, and Forum of Heads of Broadcast Media Stations in Anambra State.
He called on the people spilling blood in the State to have a re-think as such actions do not define who Anambra people are.
“Anambra State economy loses an estimated sum of N19.6 billion every time the sit-at-home directive is enforced in the state.
“Such actions do not define who we are. That is why we are calling on those responsible to stop because we are hurting ourselves.â€
Professor Soludo while calling on Ndi Anambra to be watchful, praised Governor Willie Obiano for what he called outstanding achievements.
“Governor Willie Obiano has delivered sustainable legacy projects to Ndi Anambra including the Anambra International airport, the International convention centre, Awka and the Awka stadium.â€
He said the governor has done well despite overseeing two recessions and the state suffering dwindling federal allocations.

The Chairman of Akuku-Toru Local Government Area, Roland Sekibo, who spoke shortly after a security meeting with his counterparts from Degema, Emohua, Asari-Toru local government council of the state.
Gunmen had in September abducted an expatriate attached to the construction firm handling the Trans-Kalabari road project, Lubric Construction Company, LCC, while some security personnel attached to the same company were also allegedly killed.
Sekibo, who did not confirm when and how the victim was freed, stressed the need for neighbouring Council chairmen to work together to end crime in the area.
He called for efforts to provide adequate security on the major roads linking the four local government areas, adding that government would come up with positive plans.
He said: “In every problem, the solution is always the problem; there are lots of things which cause this insecurity, last time we talked about the deplorable state of the road. We are looking at the road and the bushes that are taking over the road.
“We also looked at the inadequate nature of manpower of the security agencies. We have holistically looked at everything and we will come out with a solution. By the grace of God, these solutions will be made public soon than later.
“You see that the collaboration in synergy is yielding fruit. As I speak to you, by the grace of God the expatriate that was kidnapped has been released because of the pressures that are coming from this kind of body.â€

The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has directed banks and other financial institutions to report the Bank Verification Number (BVN) of dead customers to Nigeria Interbank Settlement System (NIBSS) within 24 hours of confirmation.
The directive is contained in the revised BVN guideline issued by the apex bank and signed by its Director, Payment System Management, Musa Jimoh.
“Report the BVNs of confirmed deceased customers to NIBSS for designation as “Deceased†on the BVN database within 24hrs of confirmation,†the circular said.
The banks are also expected to use the watch-list report submitted by participants and duly endorsed by the Managing Director/CEO of the Institution, with clearance from the Director, Risk Management Department of CBN to delist the BVN from the watch-list.
Jimoh said the CBN’s move aligned with the powers conferred on the regulator, under the Central Bank of Nigeria Act, 2007 (CBN Act), and the Banks and Other Financial Institutions Act (BOFIA) 2020.
The revised regulatory framework for BVN operations also stated that violators would be sanctioned.
The framework enhances the effectiveness of customer due diligence and Know Your Customer processes as part of the strategy for promoting a safe and efficient banking and payment system.
In a circular entitled: “Issuance of a revised regulatory framework for Bank Verification Number operations and watch-list for the Nigerian banking industryâ€, and addressed to deposit money banks, mobile money operators, super agents and payment service providers.
The circular listed watch-list stakeholders to include the CBN, Nigeria Inter-Bank Settlement System (NIBSS), banks, other financial institutions and bank customers.
Part of the circular stated that misuse of the BVN watch-listing process for victimisation; improper linking of accounts/wallets (except Tier 1); and other infraction(s), as may be determined by the CBN will attract sanctions.
