Woman Assaulted By Man She Met On Instagram Narrates Her Ordeal. Photos by Airdy(m) : 8:31 am On May 13

Instagram model India Ali on Wednesday narrated a terrifying moment she woke up naked and badly beaten in a pool of her own vomit in July 2016. According to Ali, She had gone on a date the night before with a man she met on Instagram.
She said James Baker, 27, had invited her to dinner at a Cheesecake Factory and posted video of their date online. One image showed a table full of empty shot glasses.

Court documents show the damage in the aftermath of India Ali's brutal beating, alledgedly by a man she met on social media.

She said she drank too much and had only fuzzy memories of leaving the restaurant. She doesn’t recall how they ended up back at the Westin hotel near LAX.

Ali told the Daily News she lifted up her head and saw that she was soaked in her vomit.

“My face was laying in it on the floor. “I got up and looked on the bed. There was blood everywhere. I made my way to the bathroom and saw bloody towels on the floor.” “That’s when I saw how beat up I was. It was like I was in a dream, like a nightmare actually. It was a numb, heavy feeling in my head. I was so dazed,” she recalled.
She called the police after panic set in.

Ali spent a week in the intensive care unit, Los Angeles Deputy District Attorney David Berger said.

“The amount of blows she received caused her brain to basically twist in her skull, causing veins that connect her brain to shear,” Berger told The News. “She was bleeding through her ears, mouth and nose because of the blood building up inside her brain.”
Berger said police were able to track Ali’s cell phone and found Baker with her stolen car at a nearby Courtyard hotel.

He was convicted of felony assault in April and faces a maximum of 10 years and four months in prison, Berger said.

I Won’t Change My Style To Win Premier League Title – Guardiola by Airdy(m) : 8:21 pm On May 13

Manchester City manager, Pep Guardiola, has insisted he will not change his style to win the Premier League title.

The former Barcelona and Bayern Munich boss, has struggled in his first season in England and find his team in fourth place, only three points ahead of Arsenal.

Guardiola will also end the season trophyless for the first time in his managerial career.

Earlier this week Sky Sports pundit, Gary Neville, questioned if the Spaniard will be able to win the league with a less physical team.

“The only power I have is that the team will play the way I want to play,” Guardiola said.

“I would like to be a physical strong team with fast and good headers but the team is going to play the way I want to. Gary Neville played in England, he didn’t play in another country so he can’t compare. I am not talking about for example in Germany [saying] the people are not physical, or another country … Atlético Madrid [in Spain], I am not saying they are not physical. It’s quite similar.

“They play more often here and contact is more allowed – that is the only difference I have found. The game is 11 v 11, football is one ball and what quality you have. The more mentally strong you are the more chance you have to win the games.”

Couple sells daughter for N400,000 in C’ River by Airdy(m) : 8:21 pm On May 13

A couple, George-Sunday Udoh and Victoria George-Sunday, have been arrested by the Cross River State Police Command for allegedly putting up their six-year-old daughter, Favour Udoh, for sale at the cost of N400,000.

Southern City News learnt that the couple decided to sell the child in order to raise money to rent their own apartment in Ikom, headquarters of Ikom Local Government Area of the state.

Parading the couple alongside 28 other suspected criminals to journalists in Calabar, the state Commissioner of Police, Mr Hafiz Inuwa, said that the couple was arrested in Ikom on April 26 following a tip-off.

A top police source said the couple had confessed to the crime, adding that the deal was foiled by a decoy policeman.

He said, “From their confession, the wife had given birth to Favour for another man before getting married to Udoh. But the couple took her as their daughter. They have two other children together. They have been living with the man’s sister but they are not comfortable in the house because of insults.

“So, they agreed as couple to sell the girl and use the money to get accommodation. They actually placed her for sale at N1.5m. A police went to pose as the buyer and they agreed for N400, 000. They were even telling the decoy policeman that the girl was old enough to do house chores.”

The commissioner of police, however, said that the couple sold the child out of poverty.

Inuwa added that they were in need of money to pay their house rent and possibly open up a small provision shop.

He said, “On April 26 2017, following a tip-off, our men arrested a couple, George-Sunday Udoh and his wife Victoria George-Sunday for allegedly selling their daughter at the cost of N400,000.

“The suspects were arrested by our operatives attached to the Ikom division. The case has been transferred to State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department here in Calabar and investigation is ongoing,” he said.

But, the father of the child, Udoh, in an interview with PUNCH Metro, denied the allegation.

While admitting that the girl was the daughter of his wife that had lived with them for over five years, Udoh said they never contemplated selling the child.

He said, “It is true that we don’t have money and things are very hard with me and my wife, but we did not sell our baby for N400, 000. We never thought of that kind of thing for her,” he said.

Mother of the girl, who was looking downcast, refused to comment on the matter.

She simply said, “I do not know what they are talking about.”

Here Are The 5 Major Decisions Osinbajo Will Take In Buhari’s Absence by Airdy(m) : 9:34 pm On May 13

President Muhammadu Buhari’s recent departure to the United Kingdom on health grounds has left the management of the country’s affairs in the hands of Vice president, Yemi Osinbajo. A few days agoi, in line with Section 145 (1) of the Nigerian Constitution, Buhari transmitted power to his deputy, Osinbajo, backed with a letter to the National Assembly.

In the absence of President Buhari, Acting President Yemi Osinbajo will take some crucial decisions on national issues. Here are five of them.

Assent to the 2017 budget

The most exigent presidential function awaiting Osinbajo’s action is the signing of the 2017 Appropriation Bill which was passed by both chambers of the National Assembly on Thursday. The lawmakers had, two days earlier, jerked up the budget by N143 billion from the N7.298 trillion proposed last December by President Muhammadu Buhari to N7.441 trillion.

This is not Osinbajo’s first time of assenting to bills. He had on February 18 during Buhari’s last 49-day medical leave, signed seven bills.

Nigerians look forward to seeing the acting president sign the 2017 budget. If this happens, it would douse insinuations in some quarters that the budget may be sent to the United Kingdom for President Buhari’s assent.

Inauguration of two new ministers-designate/cabinet reshuffle
The two ministers-designate, Professor Stephen Ocheni, from Kogi State and Malam Suleiman Hassan, from Gombe State, are due for inauguration into the Federal Executive Council. The Senate had, last week, screened and confirmed them sequel to their nominations by President Buhari in March.

Ocheni was nominated to replace the Late Minister of State for Labour and Employment, James Ocholi who, along with his wife and son, died last year in a road crash; while Hassan is to replace a former Minister of Environment, Amina Mohammed, who resigned recently to work as Deputy Secretary-General of the United Nations (UN).

Some had expected Acting President Osinbajo to swear in and administer the oath of office on Ocheni and Hassan before the commencement of the Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting which he presided over on Wednesday, but that did not happen. Their inauguration was not scheduled for that council’s session, and the Presidency has kept silent on this.

In the past, ministers were inaugurated first week after their confirmation by the upper legislative chamber. Administering oath of office on new ministers also comes with the bigger responsibility of assigning portfolios to them. Even in spite of President Muhammadu Buhari’s vow that not all ministers would get portfolios in lieu of the “virtually empty treasury” inherited, none of them is ‘portfolio-less’.

If Professor Osinbajo is to inaugurate the two new ministers and assign portfolios to them, a minor cabinet reshuffle is likely to be effected. How he handles this will certainly be interesting to Nigerians, especially those who believe that President Muhammadu Buhari’s cabinet is due for re-jigging.

Decision on the fate of the suspended SGF and the NIA DG
The report of the investigations into the allegations against the suspended Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Babachir David Lawal and the Director-General of the National Intelligence Agency, Ayo Oke, was expected to be submitted to President Buhari on Monday. It is not clear yet whether the president received the report before heading for London Sunday night.

Coincidentally, the three-man presidential panel is headed by Professor Yemi Osinbajo, with the National Security Adviser (NSA), Babagana Monguno, and the Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, as members.

Babachir was investigated for alleged violations of law and due process in the award of contracts under the Presidential Initiative on the North-East. Oke was investigated over the claim made by the National Intelligence Agency to the large amounts of foreign and local currencies by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) in a residential apartment at Osborne Towers, Ikoyi, Lagos State.

President Buhari had on April 19 suspended the duo pending the outcome of the investigation. Days after the conclusion of the investigations, the fate of the two officials is still hanging in the balance. If the president had received the panel’s report before his trip, Acting President Osinbajo is expected to act on it.

Deployment of non-career ambassadors

Forty-three of the 47 persons whose nominations have been confirmed by the Senate as non-career ambassadors are yet to be deployed. President Buhari was said to have approved the deployment of only four of them to their respective missions in March.

Those already deployed are Tijjani Bande (Kebbi State), Ambassador/Representative to the Permanent Mission of Nigeria to the United Nations Headquarters in New York; Itegboje Sunday Samson (Edo), Ambassador/Deputy Representative, Permanent Mission of Nigeria to United Nations Headquarters; Kadiri Ayinla Audu (Kwara), Ambassador/Representative to the Permanent Mission of Nigeria to the UN Offices in Geneva, Switzerland and Bankole A. Adeoye (Ogun), Ambassador/Representative to the Embassy of Nigeria/Permanent Mission to African Union in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.

Letters of credence with which envoys are deployed are a communication from the president of the sending country to that of the host nation. If President Buhari had signed the letters of the remaining 43 ambassadors-designate before traveling to the United Kingdom, it is expected that the acting president will upon them. But if the 43 letters have not been signed, will Acting President Yemi Osinbajo sign them?

Board appointments

A number of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) members are still hoping for appointments into the various boards of federal agencies and parastatals. They must have been curiously waiting for Buhari’s next batch of appointments before the president embarked on the current medical trip to the United Kingdom. Worry might be needless since Osinbajo has affirmed that President Buhari handed over to him before jetting out to the UK.

With May 29 nearing, Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, had recently said the present administration has a lot of good stories to tell on Nigeria’s Democracy Day. Since Nigeria’s return to civil rule on May 29, 1999, successive presidents have often been the ones telling those stories, using an early morning nationwide broadcast address as an avenue.

This year’s Democracy Day may be a veritable moment for President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration to present its mid-term scorecard. In the event the president’s London doctors decide that he stays there beyond May 29, Nigerians are most likely to wake up to Acting President Yemi Osinbajo delivering a nationwide broadcast address.

Do you think he will do well ?

We Have Confidence In Osinbajo – US, UK by Airdy(m) : 7:32 pm On May 14

The United States of America and the United Kingdom have expressed no doubt in the ability and commitment of Acting President Yemi Osinbajo to continue with the anti-corruption war and economic revival in Nigeria.

The two countries told Punch that they have confidence in Osinbajo to carry on with the quality leadership President Muhammadu Buhari has been providing the country.

This is coming on the heels of public outrage and fears expressed by Nigerians over Buhari’s deteriorating health and continued absence from public.

The President left for the UK last Sunday to receive medical attention and he is expected to be there for an indefinite time, according to his media aide, Femi Adesina.

In his last medical trip to Britain, Buhari was away for 49 days.

In recent times, prominent Nigerians had expressed angst over a cabal that has purportedly hijacked power in the Presidency due to Buhari’s protracted illness, leaving Osinbajo in the cold.

The US and the UK, however, told Punch that they believe the VP would take off from where the President stopped when he jetted out of the country to the UK for further medical attention.

When asked if the US Government was worried that Buhari’s poor health could slow down ongoing anti-corruption war in Nigeria, the spokesman for the US Embassy in Nigeria, Russell Brooks, said President Donald Trump’s administration believed in Buhari and Osinbajo.

Brooks said, “We are very much in favour of President (Muhammadu) Buhari’s campaign against corruption. We also believe that Acting President (Yemi) Osinbajo is strongly committed to this agenda and will continue to pursue it while President Buhari is out of the country.”

Speaking in a similar vein, the spokesman for the UK High Commission in Nigeria, Joseph Abuku, stated that while the British Government could not comment on whether any crisis resulting from Buhari’s protracted ill-health would lead Nigeria into political instability, he said the UK had confidence in the President and his deputy.

“The Vice President is acting President in President (Muhammadu) Buhari’s absence. The United Kingdom has full confidence in both he (Osinbajo) and President Buhari. Questions on President Buhari’s health should be directed to his office.”

Dickson congratulates students, thanks Varsity

Bayelsa State Governor, Henry Seriake Dickson has described the 21 students on state government scholarship to the prestigious Lincoln University in the United States as worthy Ambassadors and pride to the state and their families.

Dickson expressed delight over one of the students, Perewari Victor Pere, who graduated with First Class Honours and the 20 others for their academic excellence.

According to him, they have by their accomplishments, carved a niche for themselves and placed the name of Bayelsa State in the global map of states with exceptional and unique academic endowments.

Dickson also used the opportunity to express his deepest appreciation to the management of Lincoln University for their understanding and cooperation, despite the state’s inability to remit the needed school fees of the students, as at when they were due.

He, however, assured them that, with $500, 000 US dollars already released to them, concerted efforts were being made to pay up the balance within the shortest possible time.

The governor stressed that, the government and the people of Bayelsa State would remain eternally grateful to the authorities of Lincoln University.

Doctors In Kogi Suspend 10-Day Old Strike For 2 Weeks (Read) by Airdy(m) : 10:38 pm On May 14

Doctors in Kogi State have suspended their 10-day old strike to give room for dialogue with the State Government.

In a statement issued after its Ordinary General Meeting (OGM) in Lokoja on Saturday, signed by its Chairman, Dr. Godwin Tijani, the association said the decision to suspend the strike was unanimously taken to honour the Kogi paramount ruler, Attah Igala, and other imminent stakeholders, for their intervention.

“NMA has agreed to suspend its strike for two weeks to enable prominent personalities and stakeholders, mediate.

“Since the Attah of Igala, NMA National President and our honourable members of the House of Assembly have requested the association to suspend the action and give them time to intervene, we have no choice than to honour them.

“We will reconvene in a forth night to decide on the way forward if no positive progress is made and our demands are not met”.

The doctors embarked on industrial action despite threat by Kogi Government to terminate the appointment of any of its staff, under its health sector, that participates.

Kehinde Lawal, Acting Head of Service, in a circular warned that the state government will also adopt the policy of ‘no work no pay’ for any doctor on strike.

Lawal had stated that government was doing its best to make sure that all the salary arrears of cleared officers, by the screening committee, would be paid within the shortest time possible.

“It is equally noteworthy for every union to realise that the best way to resolve any issue is through peaceful dialogue and not strike action.

“In view of the foregoing, any staff of Kogi State Government that decides to go on strike is hereby notified that such person will have his/her job at stake.

“The policy of ‘No Work No Pay’ will be adopted for any worker that embarks on strike action,” she said.
