Adebamigbe, 37, was sentenced to life imprisonment by an High Court of Ekiti State sitting in Ado Ekiti for raping a 13-year-old girl.
 A s#x offender in Ekiti state has been shamed by the government. In furtherance of the Ekiti State Government’s naming and shaming of convicted s#x offenders policy, the state’s Ministry of Justice, on Sunday, January 30, publicly published the identity of a convicted sex offender, Samuel Adebamigbe. Adebamigbe, 37, was sentenced to life imprisonment by an High Court of Ekiti State sitting in Ado Ekiti for r#ping a 13-year-old girl. He was tried and found guilty on the charge of rape. The prosecution counsel, Kunle Adeyemo, a Senior Legal Officer in the Ministry of Justice, Ekiti State called five witnesses and tendered several exhibits including the Statement of the victim. In his judgment, Justice Lekan Ogunmoye held that the prosecution proved his case beyond reasonable doubt and thereby sentence the defendant to life imprisonment.Â

The UK/Ireland Chapter of the apex Igbo socio-cultural organization made the commendation when the newly elected President of the chapter, Chief Mrs. Aqueen Ibeto (Adabuzo), led a delegation to the Government House, Enugu, on a courtesy visit to Gov. Ugwuanyi, on Friday.
Chief Ibeto, who noted that the visit was “a unanimous decision of our executive council†to discuss other areas of common interest to the service of the Igbo Nation, thanked the governor for granting them audience in spite of his busy schedule. Accompanied by the President of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Enugu State Chapter, Prof. Fred Eze, the National Publicity Secretary of the Organization, Chief Alex Ogbonnia, among others, the new UK/Ireland President described Gov. Ugwuanyi as a humble and visionary leader, adding that Igbos in the Diaspora are pleased with what the governor has been doing in Enugu State. “His Excellency, I still give you the most appreciation than anyone ever can think of, because I have seen what you have done in Enugu State. I know you to be a very quiet and calm leader with a big heartâ€, she said. Chief Ibeto, who is an indigene of Enugu State by birth, sought the chapter’s collaboration with the state government to enable it to contribute and showcase its plans “to make sure that Enugu State remains on topâ€. According to her, “I can only but thank God that I am from Enugu State of which I happen to be your subject. I am also happy because I have a governor who has a large heart to welcome everyone whether you are in the Diaspora or at home. A man has revealed a fascinating story about his ex-girlfriend, for whom he paid school fees ten years ago. 
The man who goes by the handle @MrMekzy on the microblogging platform, Twitter, revealed that he financed his ex’s tuition in 2012 since her parents couldn’t afford it. He made the decision while still in his second year of university. When her father learned of what he had done for his daughter, he offered her N200k to give back to him months later, but she declined out of love. The man claimed he told her she could do whatever she wanted with it, but the tale doesn’t really end happily because she later dumped him and even asked him to come to her wedding. His tweet read: “I paid school fees for a lady i was dating in my year 2 in 2012. Her parents couldn’t pay at the time, so I paid. Months later when her father gave her the 200k to give me, i told her to keep it and do whatever she wants with it cos of love. She still put my heart in a blender.

The Lagos State Government on Friday said it had approached the Supreme Court to seek clarifications on a 2012 judgement regarding land ownership in the Magodo area of the state. The Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Gbenga Omotosho, in a statement, said the Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu administration took the decision because judgment creditors failed to reach a consensus on the control of their association. The statement was titled, ‘Update on settlement of Supreme Court judgement on Shangisha/Magodo’. It read, “Following the intervention of Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, officials of the State Government and representatives of the Shangisha Landlords Association (the judgment creditors) held a series of meetings at which both parties explored the possibility of complying with the judgment of the Supreme Court. “At the said meetings two issues arose: “There was a serious division among the judgment creditors as to who controlled or had the right to represent the Association; and “The demand by the judgment creditors that a single global Certificate of Occupancy should be issued in the name of the Association as opposed to the position of the State Government that each of the 549 members of the Association would be given allotment letters individually. “Given the sharp divide between the two factions of the judgment creditors on who has authority to represent the Association and the disagreement regarding whom the Certificate of Occupancy should be issued (collectively or individually), the State Government has approached the Supreme Court to seek further directives and clarifications on both issues. The Judgment Creditors have been served with the application. “The State Government, however, wishes to reiterate its commitment to complying with the judgment of the Supreme Court once these two issues are resolved.†In January, policemen besieged the Magodo Phase 2 Estate area of the state in the company of suspected land grabbers and members of a family who had planned to demolish property in the choice estate to execute the Supreme Court judgment. The development had caused commotion at the estate as landlords and tenants panic over their fate. Sanwo-Olu had led members of his cabinet to visit the residents protesting the continuous presence of armed policemen in the estate and promised to resolve the land dispute.

 The News Agency of Nigeria reports that the Borno State Emergency Management Agency has confirmed three deaths in Saturday’s fire at the Muna El-Badawy Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) camp in Maiduguri. Its Director-General, Hajiya Yabawa Kolo, confirmed the death toll during an impact assessment visit to the scene. She said at least 3,000 shelters were destroyed while dozens of households in the camp were displaced. She said the fire, which began from a tent, gutted other shelters because there was no immediate fire service response in the camp at the time of the incident. Kolo noted that fire outbreaks in camps and communities where returned IDPs had been resettled were becoming a regular occurrence. She said there was a similar incident at Ngirburi Village in Jere Local Government Area recently in which two persons died. “There have been records of huge losses of food and non-food items as well as animals that were destroyed during the fire disaster. “Another fire incident occurred at Mandarari IDP camp, located within Konduga town in Konduga Local Government Area,’’ she said. Kolo said the agency was conducting assessment to ascertain the level of damage, noting that the critical needs of the victims were food, shelter and other non-food items. “We appeal to the National Emergency Management Agency, the Northeast Development Commission and the Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development to assist the IDPs,’’ she said.Â
