Hundreds of residents of Jiddari Polo general area of Maiduguri metropolis have fled their homes into the city following sporadic shootings suspected to have been masterminded by Boko Haram sect. Jiddari Polo General Area is south at the outskirts of the metropolis with densely population and not far away from the 21 Giwa armoured Barracks.

The incident which started at about 6:30 pm on Wednesday is coming barely few hours after President Muhammadu Buhari visited the state for sympathy visit. According to one resident, Mallam Yusuf Unman said:” Our community is currently under Boko Haram attack, there are deafening sounds if gunshots and explosions, but I was lucky to have mobilized my family and fled into the heart if the city to reunite with one if my relatives”.

Although the sounds of the gunshots have subsided as at 7:12 pm, many residents who fled into the city are still stranded at press time. One of the fleeing residents, Adamu Garba told our correspondent at about 7:30pm that they sighted large number of armed policemen, members of the civilian JTF with military troops heading towards the area of the attack as they struggle to enter the town with his family in his private car.

Meanwhile, Borno Governor Professor Babagana Umara Zulum has said there was need for change of strategies in the ongoing fight against Boko haram. The Governor who however acknowledged successes recorded by the same military in the state spoke in presence of President Muhammadu Buhari at the Shehu of Borno’s palace in Maiduguri. “Your Excellency sir, between the period of March 2019 to date we have started witnessing horrific and spontaneous attacks by the insurgents which has resulted into the loss of lives and properties of our people.

“We are calling upon the Nigerian military to change strategies and we can borrow a leaf from the success our military was able to hugely record in the years 2016 and 2017 with a view to ending the insurgency. We need to keep taking the war to enclaves of the insurgents in the fringes of the Lake Chad, in Sambisa forest and some notable areas” Zulum said.

Governor Zulum, however, commended the President for his commitment to ending the insurgency. He recalled the gains recorded in the years 2016 and 2017 and also thanked him for being consistent in showing empathy to the people of Borno.

“Let me appreciate Mr President for associating with us at this our very trying moment. I am so surprised that we have forgotten the past” Zulum said. The Governor although he could not ignore the current unfortunate situation, the people of Borno state still remember the days before Buhari’s emergence, when 20 out of the 27 local government areas in the state were in the hands of Boko haram while all the five routes into Borno state were largely inaccessible with exception of Maiduguri-Kano road. In addition, he cited sporadic bombings and killings even within the capital, Maiduguri.

“Close to about 20 Local Government areas were resettled under Buhari. In fact, in the year 2016/2017, we celebrated the demise of the Boko Haram insurgency that has unfortunately returned” Zulum said.

Two explosions have hit postal offices in the Netherlands after suspected letter bombs which were delivered exploded.

The blasts reportedly went off in two separate mail depots, one in Amsterdam city centre and another in the city of Kerkrade, 120 miles to the south.

The first explosion occurred around 8am on Wednesday (Feb.12) in a business park in west Amsterdam, while the second in Kerkrade took place shortly after. The sender of the packages was listed as the head offices of a debt collection company called CIB, located in Rotterdam.

No injuries have been reported at the mail depots, but police are currently at the scenes of the explosions.

Kees van Dijkhuizen, ABN Amro CEO, said an employee went to open the letter when a device inside exploded but wasn’t hurt by the blast.

The explosion occurred shortly after ABN Amro presented its annual figures for 2019 on Wednesday morning.

Last month, there was also a similar letter bomb attack on companies in Amsterdam, Rotterdam, Utrecht, and Maastricht last month. But none of the devices exploded and police are yet to make an arrest in connection with the incidents.

Rapper, Yung6ix is on his Twitter handle this morning leaving cryptic messages for an ”unblown” artiste who he says dissed him.

Yung6ix who did not mention the name of the ”unblown” artiste, said while he was still struggling, he, Yung6ix, used his time to develop himself and not to bring people down as the ”unblown” artiste is doing. He wrote

Ps I’m still not replying unblown artiste who diss me , take that as motivation not insult, when I was in your shoes I spent time developing myself not trying to bring others down or create wrong perspective about them. But then again 17 na 17 and orientation scarce for street.

Like how can you use your money to pay for session, take your time and write something to beef someone who barley knows you exist instead of trying to succeed at what you do and make a mark before you leave this short life. It baffles me fam.

Nigerians on Twitter are reacting to tweets shared by singer, Burna Boy, in which he stated that he is the best since Afrobeat legend, Fela Anikulapo Kuti, and that no one paved a way for him.

Burna Boy who lost out in winning an award at the 2020 Grammys, had earlier tweeted this

“FACT! I always knew I was and I am THE BEST. Everyone you think is the best KNOWS I’m BEST since Fela Kuti. But @timayatimaya told me something a long time ago that made me not care about being the best. “The World can do without the Best” the world will still spin regardless.”

A twitter user who felt this was a diss to his seniors in the industry, asked where he was when afrobeat was “crawling” between 2010-2018. In response, Burna Boy said that nobody paved the way for him. He added that Nigerian singers were begging and paying the western world for their songs to be heard before he brought Africans the respect they now have.

President Muhammadu Buhari in Maiduguri 

Residents of Maiduguri yesterday showed their anger by booing President Muhammdu Buhari over the killings by Boko Haram terrorists.

Recall that Buhari had landed in Maiduguri, the Borno State capital, from Addis Ababa, Ethiopia after the Thirty-third (33rd) Ordinary Session of Heads of State and Government of the African Union (AU) in Addis Ababa, to pay a sympathy visit to the government and people of the state who were struck by the attack.

President Buhari, in a statement issued by his media aide, Garba Shehu, commiserated with the family of victims of attacks, and assured them that his administration will continually frustrate the devilish operations of Boko Haram, with a promise that it will soon be a thing of the past.

In a viral video, residents of the metropolis, who came out early, lined up on both sides of the road along the airport way, expressing their disapproval by booing Buhari’s convoy, with a loud chorus in Hausa, ‘Ba ma so’ which means: ‘we don’t like it.’

His visit is coming days after Boko Haram terrorists on Sunday night killed 30 passengers from dozens of travelers that were forced to pass the night in Auno, a community 25 kilometers away from Maiduguri.

Nigerian Music legend, Tuface Idibia has reacted to the death of Veteran musician, Victor Olaiya.

We reported that Olaiya, who clocked 89 years on December 31, 2019, passed away at the Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH) Wednesday afternoon.

Bimbo Esho, Managing Director of Evergreen Music Company Ltd, confirmed his death in a statement on Wednesday.

Tuface, reacting, expressed sorrow over the death of Olaiya.

In a post on his verified Instagram page, the music legend who sang ‘Baby Mi Da’ with Olaiya in 2013 wrote: “Devastated by the news of your passing. Dr. Victor Olaiya – maestro, mentor, legend.

Rev. Richard Bucci of Sacred Heart Church in West Warwick, Rhode Island has defended his decision of not giving holy communion to lawmakers who supported an abortion rights bill.

In an interview with NBC affiliate WJAR in Providence, the 72-year-old Catholic priest stated that abortion is worse than pedophilia. Bucci further described abortion as “the slaughter of innocent children.”

The Catholic priest also insisted that more children have been killed by abortion than those abused.

Bucci said;

“We are not talking about any other moral issue, where some may make it a comparison between pedophilia and abortion. Pedophilia doesn’t kill anyone, and this does.”

In a separate weekend interview on the “Gene Valicenti Show,” Bucci stated that he is not creating a new rule by denying lawmakers holy communion but only enforcing ones that have been part of the Catholic catechism for 2,000 years.

He said;

“It’s not a new idea. I don’t know why everybody is shocked.”

Following rising tension in Imo State over the last Supreme Court Judgement, the Imo House of Assembly has banned any further protest in the state.

Igbere TV reports that Assembly said protests have become dangerous events exposing residents to danger in Imo.

The Assembly also warned the PDP to stop crying wolf over the ruling of the Apex Court on Tuesday 14th January on the governorship election in the state.

The lawmakers also passed a vote of confidence on Governor Hope Uzondinma and the Supreme Court.

The Governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Wike in a latest statement released on Thursday has called on the Federal Government to warn the Chairman of the All Progressive Congress APC, Adams Oshiomohle.

This comes after  Oshiomhole said PDP’s Diri can’t be sworn in in Bayelsa because “The judgement of the Supreme Court lacks the ingredients of justice.”

Wike said, “The Federal Government should warn Oshiomhole to stop making remarks that will destabilise Nigeria. What he is doing in Edo State is not proper and he should not bring it to the rest of the Niger Delta.

Who is Oshiomhole to determine who has spread in a state? Supreme Court has made a ruling. It is unfortunate for Oshiomhole to come forward to say that nobody will be sworn in.

It is most unfortunate what Oshiomhole is doing because he wants to retain his position as National Chairman. APC Governors have rejected him, that is why he is struggling to prove that he is fighting for the Party.

He believes that he has the forces to cause crisis. He is arrogating powers to himself, which is not good . Oshiomhole would not be allowed to destroy the Niger Delta. The rule of law must continue to prevail at all times.”
