Zainab Duke-Abiola, one of the widows of Chief Moshood Kashimawo Olawale (MKO) Abiola, who allegedly ordered her workers to beat her orderly, Inspector Teju Moses, has claimed that the Nigeria Police Force authorities are framing her up.

A video clip showing the female officer in uniform bleeding, seated on the floor had gone viral since Wednesday night.

“She told her boys to kill me,” Moses said incoherently as she spoke to her direct boss on the phone.

Force spokesman, Olumuyiwa Adejobi in a statement on Thursday said the Inspector-general of Police, Usman Baba, had ordered the prosecution of the human rights activist and her domestic staff members, comprising Rebecca Enechido.

Speaking to SaharaReporters on Friday, the late politician’s wife denied assaulting the officer who she described as her former police orderly.

According to her, being the Chief Legal Consultant of the Nigeria Police Force, orderlies have always been attached to her to protect her against dangerous criminals that the police are prosecuting.

“The truth is that I, Professor Zainab Abiola, widow of Chief MKO Abiola, the winner of June 12 presidential election have been rendering pro-bono services to the Nigeria Police Force free of charge for over 15 years following her appointment as legal representative of the security agency.

“Based on my professional excellence, the police promoted me and appointed me as the Chief Legal Consultant (CLC). As of today, Professor Abiola is the only Chief Legal Consultant of the Nigerian Police Force.

“Orderlies have always been attached to me to protect me against dangerous criminals that the police are prosecuting. Even the present IGP, Alkali Baba approved and revalidated some new orderlies for me as recently as 29th April 2022.

“So, for IGP Alkali Usman to deny any knowledge of the CLC of the police is irresponsible, discrimination, racism, tribalism, ethnicism, bureaucratic corruption and a mischievous attempt to deceive the public. On some occasions, the police would officially approve logistics for my staff to handle office administrative works like photocopying, typing which are yet to be reimbursed.”

Zainab added she became an enemy of the current Inspector General of Police because of her support for #EndSARS victims.

“The IGP was very angry, he reduced the number of cases assigned to me because of my office at the legal department of the police. My office is there, did you not see my letterhead paper? If they (police) have another Chief Legal Consultant in this Nigeria, let them bring the person out. It’s no other person but me, even the senior lawyers listen to me, so I give recommendations.

“That was how I recommended that all these lopsided appointments of Christians by the IGP is wrong, I wrote the President. Intelligent police officers, you decided to retire them, you need these people to fight insecurity. That’s me, thank God that this thing happened, who will know I have been rendering pro bono services to the Nigeria Police Force for years?

“’You said you were supporting #EndSARS people and you called yourself our Chief Legal Consultant. Why would you be supporting those thugs, those criminals, those Lagos boys, those Tinubu’s boys’. Yes, that’s what the IGP said.

“It appeared you are working and supporting Tinubu. Openly, he said so in his office. What do you think? You supporting Tinubu. I kept quiet, I didn’t reply him (IGP), he said so in his office. I think his office has a camera, let them bring the recording of that meeting out.

“Is it wrong to be against police brutality, discrimination against innocent citizens, misuse of guns against Nigerians? I have not done anything, I don’t assault people, my hand is for healing, for good things, it’s not in my character. They were just looking for a way to embarrass me.

“It started after I came back from the United States of America and actually expressed support for #EndSARS freedom fighters openly. The IGP, Alkali Baba Usman was not happy.

“That was where his sons, one Engineer Ibrahim stepped in and offered to take me to see the IGP for a fee. But I refused to pay any bribe and that IGP’s son, Engineer Ibrahim took offence.

“He, Ibrahim now brought his girlfriend, one miss Zara to us. When it was discovered that the girlfriend of the IGP’s son has sickle cell disease, my firm offered to help but Ibrahim travelled out.

“On his return, the IGPs son kept visiting our office and not being able to get any headway, he turned 360 degrees and became an enemy and very hostile. Nobody beat up any orderly. It is not in my character.”

She added that the officer allegedly assaulted wasn’t attached at the time of the alleged offence.

“I rejected her posting after realising she’s been on a peacekeeping mission to several countries and should be rehabilitated first due to her mental health.

“But she came back that particular night. I wasn’t even the one who attended to her, so how could I have given the order that she should be assaulted?”

Nigerian singer cum politician, Banky W has said he's optimistic the new Electoral Act 2022, would make rigging elections difficult.

Banky W whose real name is Olubankole Wellington is a House of Representatives candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Lagos State.

According to Banky W at his campaign flag-off and Mega Fitness Walk at Lekki Phase one, people now have assurance and confidence that their votes would count, adding that gaining the people’s trust is very important in winning as elections will be won or lost at polling units.

The singer who noted that he was very optimistic about winning the election, said for once, the Electoral Act has become a game changer because the manner in the election used to be rigged will really not be effective anymore.

He continued saying now people have that assurance and confidence that votes actually do count, adding that once you have your people behind you, then you stand a better chance because this election will be won and lost at each specific polling unit.

“That is why our focus is on engaging the communities, letting them know where we stand, and working with them to get the seat at the end of the day. I think we have a great chance of winning this constituency because the people are excited about my candidacy. I ran in 2019 on an independent party platform and for me, 2019 was about planting the seed but 2023 is about winning the seat and we will win the seat with the support of our people,” he stated.

According to him, his team has a robust legislative agenda that has been fine-tuned over the past few years, and the focus on areas like education is very key and that they will try to bring technology into all the various wards in Eti-Osa to give young people a chance to have the kind of skill set that makes them relevant and able to become either entrepreneurs or employees in this century.

He said “there are things we want to focus on with healthcare. For instance, it will shock people that we don’t have a general hospital with all the internally generated revenue from this constituency. So, if somebody falls sick in Sangotedo, the person will have to go all the way down to Lagos Island before he or she gets healthcare.

 

So, we will be fighting for things like healthcare, education and gender equity. “I’m excited about the plans that we have for the people because they are very good.”

 

The apex leader of the Banky W campaign council, Adeniyi Adams, who noted that his candidate is saleable, popular and intelligent, said chances are incredibly high because things are changing and with the new electoral law, it is going to be extremely difficult to rig the people out, and so they know that their votes will count and they are all out to support him.

Adams said Banky W has empathy for the people and he has been showing love to people of this constituency for more than a decade and not because he wants to come out for the election.

So it’s easy for one to understand why the people are actually yearning for him because it is no longer about him but about the change people want, he said.

The Director General Admin and Finance for BankyW House of Reps campaign organisation, Tolani Animashaun, also said given the current situation of the country, candidates under the PDP have a chance of winning across board.

Speaking about the crisis at the party, she said. “PDP’s house is in order. Forget about what the media writes because they want to have some sensation. What is put out is different from what is happening inside.

 

The ones that you don’t hear about are those that you should be scared of, so, you need to go and find out why you don’t hear about them. We don’t have issues in our party.”

Chidinma Ojukwu was questioned on her relationship with the deceased and according to her, “Micheal Ataga was a friend that we just talked to. I didn’t know him that deeply and we did not talk regularly”.

Before the deceased’s murder, Micheal Ataga had instructed Chidinma Ojukwu to get an apartment for them to stay which she did.

According to the owner of the apartment, Nkechi Mogbo, Chidinma called her on June 13th with a private number to request for the apartment and after communicating on WhatsApp, she made a payment of 125,00 naira for three days with a GTB account that had the name, Mr Michael Usifo.

Chidinma confirmed to requesting for a place and also by Monday morning, that is on the 14th of June after getting the apartment on the 13th of June, she ordered food and more drugs because according to her, she and Micheal Ataga had been taking drugs and having s*x. And it went on till Tuesday, on the 15th of June.

Chidinma said Micheal wasn’t being himself due to the influence of the drug, and kept asking for more s*x even after she declined cause she was tired.

Michael struggled with her and eventually had his way. She said she pushed him and he hit his head on a stool that had glass cup on it and then fell to the ground.

In her words,

“After I got to the place on Sunday, we were smoking loudly, drinking, watching movies and then I went to get food.

“The drug we were taking got finished and I ordered another one and went downstairs to get it from the delivery guy in the morning; that was on June 14, 2021.

“Then on Tuesday, we drank and sm0ked loud and I added Rophynol to his drink and we had s*x. I was on the bed and he was on the chair.

“Then later he started disturbing me for more s*x. I was tired and after struggling with him, he had his way and still wanted more.

He wanted it, he was no longer himself and I thought he was no more interested in s*x, only for him to return to the bed to ask for more s*x.

“I pushed him away, which resulted in him hitting his head against a stool that had a glass. He had a cut on his leg and he became weak.

“I got a knife and st*bbed him in the n*ck, ribs and stomach so that he would not be able to harm me. I t*ed his hands with a handkerchief.

“I was scared. I just packed everything, my clothes were also stained, I just packed my things and left.

“I took the knife and handkerchief and when I got home, I threw the knife and handkerchief away.”

Russian troops are using rape as a weapon of war against Ukrainians, according to damning evidence collected by the UN.

Pramila Patten, a UN special envoy on sexual violence, said she has verified more than 100 cases of rape against Ukrainians during the eight-month war but the true figure is almost certain to be higher.

The United Nations has verified ‘more than a hundred cases’ of rape or sexual assaults in Ukraine since Russia invaded in February, Patten said, referring to a UN report released in late September.

‘It’s very difficult to have reliable statistics during an active conflict, and the numbers will never reflect reality, because sexual violence is a silent crime’ that is largely underreported, she said

The Court Order must be obeyed whether they like it or not. No criminal charge of any form can be filed against Onyendu Mazi Nnamdi Kanu again, and no indictment of any nature can be taken up against him. We have won them hands-down.

The Federal Government of Nigeria has totally run out of options, and the only valid OPTION available to them now is to obey the Order made by a very Superior Court of record and immediately free Onyendu. The time is now, and it is irreversible!

Today, being the 17th day of October, 2022, the judgement of the Court of Appeal delivered on the 13th day of October, 2022, which unconditionally freed Onyendu, was served on the Attorney General of the Federation – Abubakar Malami SAN, and the Director General of the State Security Service (DSS) Headquarters, Abuja.

The DSS is expected to immediately enforce the positive Orders of the Court and immediately release Onyendu without further ado and unconditionally.

We shall be exploring far reaching legal measures to command immediate compliance with this erudite Court judgement freeing Onyendu, though the details of our strategic legal engagements shall remain private.

The family of the late Abimbola Ogbonna has released an official statement on her death.

Recall news surfaced a few days ago that Abimbola had passed after another domestic violence incident involving her husband, celebrity businessman, IVD.

The family of Bimbo as she was fondly called, released a statement stating that the deceased suffered fatal burns in a fire incident at her Lagos home.

The family also revealed that they tried to save Bimbo from her abusive marriage at some point.
