"To who it may concern, I am a Nigerian living and working in Dubai. I have to share this story on Pulse in case anyone knows this lady. There is this lady called Sophia but no one knows her real name or her surname.

She works as a prostitute here in Dubai and does not have any papers. She lived in Al-Baraha area in Deira, Dubai. No one knows her details though she told people she is from Edo State but we do not know her real hometown or her family members.

A Court of Appeal in Port Harcourt has dismissed the appeal filed by Rotimi Amaechi, ex-governor of Rivers State, against the state Government, the chairman and members of the Panel of inquiry, and others to the effect that the panel did not give him fair hearing.

In a unanimous judgement, the 3 justices held that former Governor denied himself fair hearing by refusing to appear before the panel.

The court also held that former Governor Amaechi and minister of Transportation did not show concrete evidence that the panel was biased and set up to find him guilty.

Ex-governor Amaechi had approached the Appeal court to challenge the decision of the high court in the State that declared that the Panel of Inquiry set up by Rivers State Government in 2015 to investigate the sale of state assets was properly constituted and its findings in line with the law.

Good News! Governor Ambode Orders VIOs Out Of Lagos Roads – See Why by sweethoney12(f) : 5:40 pm On May 09

Akinwunmi Ambode, the Lagos State Governor, has ordered the state’s Vehicle Inspection Officers, VIOs out of Lagos roads with immediate effect.

PM News gathered that since last week, the VIOs, under the Vehicle Inspection Service, VIS, had left all Lagos roads on the order of Ambode.

Government sources said the governor ordered the VIOs out of the road for retraining as a result of public complaints and in a bid to reposition the outfit.

A source told PM News that the story carried by a national daily recently which alleged that the VIOs burnt the vehicle of a motorist arrested had not gone down well with the governor who would not tolerate unruliness in his administration.

Asides this, some complaints about supposed high-handedness and over-zealousness of some VIOs were other reasons the governor ordered them out of Lagos roads until further instruction.

A VIO source told our reporter that the officers had been ordered by the governor to go on compulsory retraining on the use of modern technology in order to be humane in dealing with the public.

It was gathered that the no training had been arranged since the officers left the road last week as they were still watching and waiting for the next action to be taken by the state government on the matter.

A top government source who does not want his name mentioned said the order by the governor for VIOs to vacate Lagos road was unconnected with the alleged report of assaulting a motorist and burning the vehicle.

A VIO source alleged that the driver lied against the officers as the agency could not have carried out such debilitating action.

A source added that the Ministry of Transportation was working frantically to arrange training for VIOs so that they could get back on the road soonest, but that for now, they would be off the road on the order of the governor.

Why We’re Delaying 2017 Budget – Faleke Explains by sweethoney12(f) : 1:47 am On May 10

Member of the Federal House of Representatives, James Faleke has said that the delay in the passage of the 2017 budget was to avoid padding.

He made this disclosure to Journalists at the party’s national secretariat in Abuja, after meeting with All Progressives Congress (APC) stakeholders from Kogi.

He said: “Budget process takes some time, unlike what we had before where you talk about budget padding or no padding. What the national assembly tried to do this time is to do the needful once and for all with the budget details being submitted.

“The budget is ready, only to be considered on the floor as all committees have finished their work, probably this week. It is not about delay but doing the right things; if we hurriedly do it and get things wrong, Nigerians will condemn us.”

Faleke further stated that, “It is true that this government will be two years by May 29. I can tell you sincerely that the country has moved forward from what we used to have.

“We have done a lot in terms of re-organising our income, especially with regards to what the federal government gets as revenue.

“You cannot imagine how much has been recovered from individuals. If the looting had continued, this country would have collapsed and I want to give kudos to the president for having done that”.

CBN Injects $388.66m into Foreign Exchange Market as FCMB Increases Sales to SMEs by sweethoney12(f) : 6:59 am On May 10

The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has released an additional sum of $388.66million to ease pressure on the naira, stimulate business activities and make foreign exchange (Forex) accessible to local operators. Confirming the numbers, the Acting Director, Corporate Communications Department at the CBN, Mr. Isaac Okorafor, disclosed that the sum of $87.885million was for spot sales, while $300.8 million was sold as forwards.

Mr. Okorafor further explained that the forwards were sold into three tenors of 30, 45 and 60 days respectively. According to him, the Bank sold $100.95 as 30-day forwards; $110.48 million as 45-day forwards and $99.37 as 60-day forwards.

Meanwhile, First City Monument Bank (FCMB) has increased its sale of Forex to all customers and members of the public who play in the Small and Medium Scale Enterprises (SMEs) sector, manufacturing, Corporate Bodies as well as individuals. This is obvious in the return on utilisation of allocated FX published weekly by FCMB in national newspapers as demanded by the Apex Bank.

Inquiries made by our reporter confirmed that FCMB has been receiving its requested Forex  from the CBN and  has  seamlessly met its obligations in the sale of Forex to all categories of
businesses and individuals as approved by the regulator. CBN has since resumed the sale of Forex to the lender, indicating that the Bank has been readmitted into the spot and wholesale strata of the foreign exchange market by the CBN.

However, the CBN, in the last few days, has extended Forex of various amounts to First City Monument Bank (FCMB) for invisible transactions, SME utilization, SMIS-Wholesale (30-day forward) and SMIS- Retail (Spot). It was also confirmed that about 5.77.06 billion litres of petroleum products valued at N760.44 billion were imported into the country in the first quarter of 2017. For this Nigerians are expected not to entertain any fear about a possible scarcity of petroleum products. The figures were the results of the bids submitted by dealers since Tuesday, May 2, 2017.

The CBN has continued with its intervention in the Bureau de Change (BDC) segment of the market to meet the needs of low-end users, the spokesman said the Apex Bank remained resolute in ensuring that it supplies enough forex to genuine customers and in the process, sustain liquidity in the market. With this development, Mr. Okorafor expressed hope that the CBN would inch even much closer to its objective of convergence of the rates in the interbank and BDC segments.

SARS Officers Rob Unilag Student Of School Fees by sweethoney12(f) : 9:48 pm On May 10

An undergraduate of the Institute of Continuing Education, University of Lagos, Akoka, identified simply as Adetokunbo, has alleged that some operatives of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad, Lagos State Police Command, attacked him and robbed him of his school fees in the Okota area of the state.

Adetokunbo, a 200-level student of Philosophy, told PUNCH Metro on Tuesday that the four policemen accused him of being a Yahoo boy (Internet fraudster) because he was seen with an iPhone.

He added that the men, who had earlier arrested two other suspects that were in a car, drove them around Lagos roads.

The victim said the men later took the two other suspects to an Automated Teller Machine, where they were forced to withdraw N100,000 each before they were dropped off at the Oworonshoki area of the state.

He said he was released on the Third Mainland Bridge after his N70,000 school fees was forcefully taken from him.

The victim said he was not pained by the torture, but the fact that he would have to defer his schooling as he could not raise the money again.

He said, “I am a clothier, but I am also undergoing part time studies at UNILAG. I am in 200 level. To raise part of my school fees, which was already due, I had to sell some of my property.

“I had gone to deliver some clothes to a customer in Okota sometime in April and was returning on a motorcycle around 3pm, when I observed that there was panic in the area. The motorcycle rider that took me almost threw me into a gutter.

“I was still chiding him when the operatives approached me and said I was a Yahoo boy. They held me by the trousers as I protested and struggled with them, asking for my offence. I pushed one of them away. They all descended on me and started hitting me.

“They put me in handcuffs and threw me inside their car. The beating was much. They were slapping me from different sides. I told them to check my ID card or allow me to make a call.

They didn’t listen to me or even check my phone. They asked who my father was that made me use an iPhone, which they could not afford.”

Adetokunbo said he observed there were two other men in the car, adding that he gathered that they had just obtained their visas with a plan to travel abroad when they were arrested.

He said the two men, who were also accused of being Internet fraudsters, were searched by the officials and their ATM cards seized.

He said the operatives, who had police-crested guns and handcuffs, tore his shorts while attempting to search his back pocket where he had his wallet.

“They took N70,000 from me and took the other guys to the ATM to withdraw money, which I gathered was N100,000 each. They released them at Oworonsoki.

“My pain in all of these was not even the beating, but the fact that I had to defer my education because of the money they collected from me,” he said.

PUNCH Metro gathered that the police authorities had already contacted Adetokunbo, inviting him for a meeting.

He, however, said although he could identify the officers, he was afraid for his life.

“While I was in the car with them, they pointed a gun to my head and said they could waste me and nothing would happen. I am afraid for my life, but I want those men brought to book.

The police can find them in the Gowon Estate, Egbeda, and Okota, Isolo, areas of the state,” he added.

When contacted, the state Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Olarinde Famous-Cole, said the police had started looking into the case
