An 18-year-old woman identified as Paris Mayo has appeared in court after being accused of killing her baby.



Mayo is accused of allegedly killing the newborn in Ross-on-Wye, Herefordshire, in March 2019 when she was just 15 years old.
The teen who appeared at Worcester Crown Court today charged with murder, sobbed during the brief hearing. She was remanded in custody to next appear at the same court next month.



It was gathered that the police were scrambled to the home at around 8.40am on March 24, 2019, following a report of a concern for welfare.
Tragically the body of a baby was discovered at the property and Mayo was arrested. Superintendent Sue Thomas said at the time;



"Police were called to reports of a concern for welfare for a newborn baby at a property in Ross-on-Wye.

"On attendance, the body of a baby was discovered. The baby's next of kin and the coroner have been informed.

"The death is being treated as suspicious and investigations are ongoing to establish the circumstances surrounding the baby's death.

"A 15-year-old girl from Ross-on-Wye has been arrested in connection with this incident and has been released on police bail while investigations are ongoing."

Three persons have been killed and many others abducted after terrorists attacked a mosque while worshippers were breaking their fast at Baba Juli village in Bali Local Government Area on Tuesday, April 5.



According to eyewitnesses, the terrorists who were about 50 in number, abducted many worshippers from the mosque and took them to an unknown location.



“Yesterday’s attack caught us unawares. We were breaking our fast inside the mosque when we started hearing gun shots and there was nothing we could do to counter the terrorists.”a resident of the community said



Confirming the incident, the spokesperson of the Taraba State Police Command, DSP Usman Abdullahi, said an official statement will be released soon.

The Nigeria Police Force has arrested an officer attached to the Meiran division in Lagos state, ASP Eyitere Joseph, for extorting N50, 000 from a serving corps member in the state.



A video of the officer was asking the corps member for money was shared online. The acting spokesperson of the Nigeria Police Force, CSP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, who spotted the video, gave an update saying the erring officer has now been arrested and is being investigated and queried. He stated that the DPO of Meiran division has also been warned that she will be dealt with if such an incident occurs again.

Oyo State Police Command has arrested a 43-year-old pregnant woman, Omowunmi Joseph for allegedly stabbing her husband to death.



The incident happened in Odoye, Alaadorin area of Ibadan North Local Government Area of the state on Monday, April 4.



It was gathered that Omowunmi stabbed her husband, Joseph Nwankwo, in his sleep at about 2am because he was planning to marry a second wife.



Daily Trust reported that crisis started between the couple about two weeks ago when the deceased told Omowunmi that he wanted to marry a second wife from his home town.



According to a source who spoke to the publication, after committing the crime, Omowunmi reported herself at the Iyaganku police area command and was taken to Yemetu police division, close to the scene of the incident.



The remains of the husband had been deposited in a morgue.

The Lagos state government has shut down Medville Global Health Center located at Ago Palace way in Okota, Lagos state after a man accused the hospital management of causing his wife to die during childbirth.



A statement released by the Executive Secretary of the Health Facility Monitoring and Accreditation Agency (HEFAMAA), Abiola Idowu, says preliminary investigations carried out by the team revealed that the hospital was not registered with HEFAMAA, and that it had inadequate personnel.



The decision to shut the facility, located at Ago Palace Way in the Okota axis of the state, followed an investigation by the agency after one Chibuike Nwachukwu accused the hospital of incompetence which resulted in the death of his wife during childbrith.



The aggrieved man had said that the hospital induced his wife to speed up labor but 10 hours after that, she had yet to birth the child. According to him, after they performed a series of procedures on his wife, the 28-year-old lady died while the baby was saved. Meanwhile, he said the baby is currently in the Intensive Care Unit of another hospital as he insisted that his wife died as a result of the incompetence of the doctors.



Solanke Koya, chairman of HEFAMAA board, has ordered a full-scale investigation to uncover the facts surrounding the death of Mchaty’s wife.



The agency said it took the “crucial decision” to shut the facility “in furtherance of public protection pending the final outcome of the ongoing investigations.”

A man has reportedly died while pursuing his wife who was seeking refuge at a neighbour’s compound.



Fabian Omanyala was killed by the said neighbour identified as Robert Amukule after his wife ran to him for help.



The couple reportedly got into a domestic fight which quickly escalated, with Fabian’s wife running to their neighbour’s homestead.



A statement by the DCI read;



“What started as a domestic squabble quickly degenerated into a torrent of blows and kicks from Fabian Omanyala, as he assaulted his 53-year-old wife at their home in Kakemer location, Busia county”



Fabian was said to have followed his wife to their neighbor's homestead who quickly came to her rescue. He is alleged to have launched a projectile from a catapult that struck Fabian on his forehead, leaving him dead on the spot.



The statement added;



“Amukule, who had heard the ensuing commotion quickly came to the aid of the woman by launching a projectile from a catapult, that killed Omanyala on the spot”



Effort to save Fabian were futile as he was pronounced dead on arrival at a nearby health facility.



Amukule immediately took off and remains at large as officers launch a manhunt.

Super Eagles midfielder, Kelechi Nwakali has accused his Spanish club, SD Huesca of terminating his contract because he represented Nigeria at AFCON in Cameroon.



Recall that Huesca announced on Tuesday that Nwakali’s contract was terminated without giving any reason for the termination.



In a statement, the club wrote; “The club ends the contractual relationship that linked the Barca entity with the footballer, and which expired in June 2022.”



Reacting to his termination, Nwakali released a statement on Wednesday, where he accused the club’s Sporting Director, Ruben Garcia of being the brain behind the termination.



He also claimed that his issues with the club started after he was invited to the Super Eagles squad for the Africa Cup of Nations in Cameroon, but Garcia asked him to turn down the invitation as it was ‘not an important tournament’



Nwakali also accused the club of "abusing its power to bully me into signing a new contract."



The statement reads:



“It comes with huge regret that I am writing this message after SD Huesca announced the termination of my contract. I have kept silent out of respect for the Huesca fans and my teammates, but I will no longer suffer in silence. The time has come for people to know the truth and why these past few months have been awful for me and my family.



“In Dec 2021, I experienced the biggest honour of my life after I received a full international call up for my beloved Nigeria. But the joy of this moment quickly came crashing down when the club’s Sporting Director, Ruben Garcia, put extreme pressure on me not to go to AFCON due to it ‘not being an important tournament’. He told me that if I go to AFCON I will not play for Huesca again.



“This behaviour and the lack of respect shown to my country Nigeria was truly heart-breaking and it was just the latest example of the club attempting to bully me into getting their own way.



“For months the club has been abusing its power to bully me into signing a new contract.



“These tactics have included paying me late on numerous occasions. The breakdown in negotiations came when my mother fell ill and I asked Ruben for the wages the club already owed me in order to pay for my Mother’s hospital bill and treatment. Ruben Garcia responded to my request by saying ‘Sign this new contract and we will pay you what’s owed tonight’



“But despite these actions, I was not going to allow the club to stop me representing my country at one of the biggest international tournaments in the world and I was honoured to join my teammates in Cameroon.



“Before Nigeria’s last 16 game against Tunisia on 23rd January 2022, I began to feel unwell and was diagnosed with a Respiratory Tract Infection. As a result I was not fit enough to play in the game against Tunisia. After we were eliminated from the tournament I was unable to return to the club immediately as planned because of my illness following advice from the Doctor.



“Then, on the last day of the transfer market (January 31, 2022) when I was in the process of returning to join my teammates at Huesca, Ruben Garcia rang me to tell me I had to leave the club after a late offer came in from another La Liga 2 club. He threatened that he would not pay me if I did not leave the club. The option that was given to me was leave or we will open up disciplinary action. Before January 31st, I was never told by the club that they wanted to let me leave in January and this was not a decision that I felt was right for me at the time.



“After returning to the club on February 1st, Ruben Garcia and the club’s lawyers opened disciplinary proceedings against me, suspending me from training and banning me from the training ground. As a result, I had to seek the help of the Spanish Footballers Union



“(The AFE) who have been in an ongoing dispute with Huesca. After over a month passed, the club allowed me back into the training ground but have been forcing me to train on my own and have not been allowing me to use the facilities or receive treatment from the club physios.



“Throughout this time, Huesca have not paid my wages, yet I have remained silent hoping that a reasonable resolution could be found. But yesterday when I turned up to the training ground, a member of the club tried to force me to sign mutual termination papers which I refused to do. I have a family that depends on me, and no player should have to go through this inhumane treatment.



“I will never regret my decision to represent Nigeria and all I want to do is get back to playing the sport I love.



“Lastly, I want to thank the fans and my teammates of Huesca who have been amazing during my time here. I have always given 100% for the club, despite my treatment over the past 3 years.”
