Social media influencer, Chude Nnamdi has been re-arrested by the police over a defamation suit filed by a businessman, Emeka Offor.

KanyiDaily recalls that on March 18, Chude was arrested by the police in Anambra state and taken to Abuja, the country’s capital, where the force confirmed that the influencer was detained for alleged cyberstalking.

Chude, a staunch supporter of the Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, was released on Friday, Mach 24, after spending six days in several police detention facilities.

According to Peoples Gazette, Nnamdi Chude was re-arrested on Wednesday, April 19, and taken into custody after honouring a police invitation in an alleged defamation claim brought by Emeka Offor.

Sources said that Chude was detained around 12:00 p.m. after reporting at the police headquarters in Abuja. He was told that Offor had decided to sue for defamation and he would be kept in custody for trial.

Francis Obuzor, an Abuja-based attorney representing Chude on the matter, said the police have prepared charges — and his client may be arraigned on Thursday morning before a magistrate in the nation’s capital.

While The Gazette confirmed that Nnamdi Chude was being held at a facility used by the Interpol in Nigeria, the body denied involvement in the arrest.

“He is not in our custody, this matter could be with the cybercrime unit but not our department at Interpol,” said Garba Umar, an assistant inspector-general of police, on Wednesday afternoon. “We have nothing to do with the case.”

Nnamdi Chude’s detention came weeks exactly one month after he was arrested for accusing Emeka Offor of plotting with the president-elect, Bola Tinubu to compel Peter Obi to accept the disputed presidential election of February 25.

Offor strongly denied the allegation, but Chude was released from custody after being made to record a video retracting and apologising for the offensive tweet.

Following Chude’s apology and release from custody on March 24, there were indications that the matter would no longer be pursued by Mr Offor.

It remained unclear why the billionaire oil trader decided to file fresh charges, which the police are moving to prosecute under criminal defamation statutes.

Emeka Offor declined to comment on his lawsuit and police’s intervention when newsmen reached out to him on Wednesday afternoon.

KanyiDaily recalls that Chude Nnamdi had share his experience after regaining his freedom on March 24, and thanked all the people who facilitated his release.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Kaduna Zonal Command has secured the conviction of Oluwayemisi Samuel and her Son, Joshua Samuel, before Justice A.A Bello of the Kaduna State High Court.

The due were convicted for false information.

EFCC in a statement shared via its website on Wednesday, said Oluwayemisi and her son spent N5.6M on sports betting and caused a false petition to be submitted to the agency, alleging that the money was fraudulently withdrawn from their account and transferred to a sports betting account without their knowledge.

The separate counts read, “That you, Oluwayemisi Samuel (F) and Hezekiah Samuel (now at large) sometime in March, 2023 in Kaduna State within the jurisdiction of the Honourable Court, committed an offence to wit; wilfully gave false information to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, which information was used to carry out investigation on your complaint to the Commission, which information you knew to false and thereby committed an offence contrary to Section 16(1) of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (Establishment) Act, 2004 and punishable under Section 16(2) of the same Act.

“That you, Joshua Samuel (M) and Hezekiah Samuel ( now at large) sometime in March, 2023 in Kaduna State within the jurisdiction of the Honourable Court, committed an offence to wit; wilfully gave false information to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, which information was used to carry out investigation on your complaint to the Commission, which information you knew to false and thereby committed an offence contrary to Section 16(1) of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (Establishment) Act, 2004 and punishable under Section 16(2) of the same Act”.

The mother and son pleaded guilty to the charges.

 Justice Bello convicted and sentenced both defendants to seven years imprisonment each with an option of N150,000 fine.

PDP made the request through its Spokesman, Debo Ologunagba during a press conference on Friday in Abuja.

The PDP’s request was in response to Buhari’s comment that PDP and the Labour Party lost the presidential election due to overconfidence.

The party added that Buhari was “gloating over the All Progressives Congress reckless rigging,”

The PDP spokesman said, “We have called you up again today to address the unfortunate, reckless, unpresidential conduct and subjudice comment credited to the President, Muhammadu Buhari which is already causing apprehension and capable of destroying our corporate existence as a nation.

“As you are aware, the February 25, 2023, Presidential election has been adjudged across the nation and globally as the worst in the history of our country.

“The Presidential election was marred by brazen violation of the provisions of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999 (as amended), the Electoral Act, 2023, INEC Regulations and Guidelines; manipulation of processes, alteration of genuine results from Polling Units, the announcement of fabricated figures and climaxed by the vexatious declaration of the defeated candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Senator Bola Ahmed Tinubu as Winner.

“The general despondency, resentment, and anger across our country; the damning reports by election observers and the pervading international contempt against Nigeria since the declaration of the APC candidate as President-elect are ominous testaments that he does not have the mandate of the majority of Nigerians derivable ONLY from a credible electoral process.

He added that “The PDP is already at the Tribunal with the prospects of reclaiming the mandate freely given to our Presidential Candidate, Atiku Abubakar at the Presidential election.”

Former Kaduna State Senator, Shehu Sani appears to have reacted to the naming of the Second Niger Bridge after President Muhammadu Buhari by governors of the South-East states.

Recall that the five governors comprising Enugu, Imo, Abia, Anambra, and Ebonyi collectively decided to name the bridge after the president.

The president’s personal assistant on media, Buhari Sallau, who disclosed this on his Facebook page, said that after careful consultations, the governors reached an agreement to officially designate the bridge as the “Muhammadu Buhari Second Niger Bridge.”

During the virtual inauguration of the bridge on Tuesday, Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodinma acknowledged that President Buhari had fulfilled his promise to the region despite the south-east not voting for him in the elections.

Uzodinma said, “He asked for our votes, we did not give him. He made a promise and now he has fulfilled the promise even though we didn’t vote for him.”

Taking to his official Twitter handle on Tuesday, Shehu Sani recalled that former military President, General Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida (IBB) constructed some major infrastructures in the country but did not name them after himself.

He listed these infrastructures to include the Third Mainland Bridge in Lagos, Abuja multiple bridges, airports, ports, and even a refinery.

Erling Haaland, who scored 52 goals during the regular season, failed to find the back of the net for the sixth consecutive game. Still, City managed to win against opponents who were never supposed to advance this far in the first place.

The City is the first English team to win a trifecta in domestic competitions since Manchester United in 1999. They have already won the Premier League for the fifth time in the last six seasons and won the FA Cup.

In the same month, 24 years ago, City defeated Gillingham in the play-off final of the English third-tier competition by winning on penalties.

An 18-year old teenager who doubles as a television personality has been gang raped by criminals after concluding a shift over the weekend.

According to the Police, the young lady attached to a private station in Lapai, Niger State, was on her way home on Saturday from work when she received a call asking her to show up at Kobo Primary School in the community, about 150 kilometres west of the Nigerian capital Abuja.

Police spokesman Abiodun Wasiu, told The Peoples Gazette on Tuesday morning that after the 18-year old girl arrived at the venue, the daredevil assailants drugged and took turns to rape her in one of the school’s classrooms.

The assailant's also collected and searched her phone.

 

A family member who spoke to The Gazette said she would still come forward to tell her story after receiving proper medical treatment.

The young lady was able to identify one of her attackers after the incident, with the police revealing that two people were taken into custody as investigation intensified into the matter.

“We are still investigating, and we are making efforts to arrest more suspects,” Mr Abiodun said. “Whatever the situation is, we’ll let the public know later.”

 The Ogun State Government has provided electric-powered motorbikes for commuters across the State.

The State government said this was done to cushion the effect of subsidy removal on its citizens.

The statement by the governor said the electric motorbikes will be distributed to deserving transporters across the state.

"In our efforts to cushion the effect of fuel subsidy removal, which has led to the rising cost of transportation in the entire nation, we made a promise to provide electric-powered motorbikes for those who relied solely on this means of transport.

"While at the Republic of Benin yesterday, we had a test drive of some of the motorbikes that our administration will soon distribute to deserving transporters and members of our society, as a way of easing the financial pressure orchestrated by the increase in fuel price."
