A married man has been restrained by the law court from coming close to his own wife for as many as twelve months after committing a grievous crime.

One Mr. Jonathan Emoghase has been restrained by Magistrate (Mrs) Sule Amzat of a Lagos state Magistrate court sitting in Ogudu, Ojota, from coming anywhere close to his wife and mother of his three children, Janet Ojeikere for the next 12 months over alleged incessant physical assault.

According to The Nation, the order which was obtained from the family court last Thursday stated that Mr Emoghase would go to jail for three months if he is found to have disobeyed the order of the court.

The order of the court was sequel to the request of his wife, Janet, made through the Domestic and Sexual Violence Response Team (DSVRT).

DSVT Coordinator, Mrs Titilola Vivour-Adeniyi told the Nation that sometimes in February, Janet Ojeikere, reported a case of physical assault and threat to life by her husband, Mr Jonathan Emoghase.

The incident was said to have happened at their residence, 6 Funmilayo Close, Clemedu Awojaya, Ikeja at about 7. 00 p.m. on January 24.

Janet alleged that her husband, Jonathan, has been physically assaulting her since she married him three years ago.

She claimed that the last time her husband physically assaulted her, she hit her with a stick repeatedly while threatening to kill her.

Janet reported the matter at the Lagos State DSVRT which referred her to the Family Support Unit (FSU) Ketu Police Station which later arrested her husband and charged him to court.

Emoghase was arraigned last Thursday before Magistrate Sule O. Amzat of the family court, Ogudu, Ojota on a two count charge of assault and threat to kill Janet Ojeikere.

The two count charge stated in part; “that you, Jonathan Emoghase, on 24th January 2017 at about 1900 hours at No 6 Funmilayo Close, Celemadu Awojaya in Ikeja magisterial district did assault one Janet Ojeikere by beating her up and thereby committed an offence punishable under section 170 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State 2015”.

Count two of the charge stated that Jonathan Emoghase, on the same date, threatened tom kill Janet Ojeikere by using a stick to beat and wound her and thereby committed an offence punishable under section 230 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State 2015.

He pleaded not guilty to the two count charge preferred against him by the Police and was subsequently granted bail in the sum of N10, 000.00 by the trial magistrate, Amzat.

Same day, the wife, Janet Ojeikere requested for a restraining order against her husband, pursuant to the provisions of the Lagos State Prevention Against Domestic Violence Law, 2007 bearing in mind that her husband had promised to kill her.

Magistrate Amzat granted her request for a restraining order against Mr. Emoghase and barred him from coming anywhere close to the complainant for the next one year, of which failure to comply will earn him a minimum of three months’ imprisonment.

Reacting to the decision of the family court, DSVRT Coordinator, Mrs Vivour-Adeniyi urged survivors of domestic violence and members of the public not to keep quiet when assaulted assuring that there is help for them especially at the Family Courts of Lagos State.

A pastor with a white garment church has been arrested by the Special Fraud Unit, Milverton, Ikoyi, Lagos, for allegedly collecting N70 million to treat a businesswoman of fibroid.

His arrest followed a complaint lodged by the victim’s husband, over allegation that Femi intended to eliminate him and take over his property. The businesswoman had been suffering from the ailment which defied medical treatment for 14 years, until she was introduced to Pastor Femi.

Commissioner of Police in-charge of SFU, Mr. Ibrahim Lamorde, said:

“The prophet initially charged the woman N98k and he gave her some herbs, which stopped the bleeding for a while.
When the bleeding started again in 2014, she went back to the prophet, who brought in a new twist to the matter.

He hypnotised her and convinced her that her husband was responsible for her problems.

He convinced her that her husband was also after her children’s lives, accusing him of being a cultist and that the bleeding was the source of his money. The woman was asked to bring money for sacrifices and rituals.

She also built him a 5 bedroom duplex at Ojokoro area of Lagos and another in Ado-Ekiti, upon his request. The prophet also warned her to stop sleeping with her husband and instructed her and her children to give him 70% of the money the man gave them monthly.

For 3 years the prophet would come and sleep in the man’s house, without his knowledge. After his arrest, we discovered that one of his accounts had over N70m, paid in by the victim.

We learned that the prophet has two other accounts. The suspect had collected a chieftaincy title in Ekiti with the money. Also recovered were a Toyota Highlander and a Lexus GX 470 all bought for him by his victim.

Femi proudly told us that he is a prophet and a native doctor and that he helped the woman and uses brain to collect money from her.

We have decided to bring this to the public domain to warn people about fraudsters, who hide under churches as prophets or pastors. We have saved this victim’s husband from death, as that would have been the next plan.”

Indian doctors have given a new lease of life to a baby girl who was born with a head attached to her stomach.

They managed to remove the appendage of her parasitic twin in a complicated four-hour operation at JK Lone Hospital, in Jaipur.

It was feeding off of her blood supply – depriving her of vital nutrients needed for her healthy development, surgeons said.

As well as being born with an extra head, which had no ears and eyes due to being partly developed, the infant also had a third hand.

An unnamed 21-year-old woman presented herself to doctors at the Ram Snehi Hospital, in Jahazpur, after experiencing pain during her pregnancy.

She was immediately referred for a sonography scan and an ultrasound and were told that she was carrying twins – but were unaware they would be parasitic.

Unlike conjoined twins, one is incompletely formed or wholly dependent on some bodily functions of the complete foetus.

Cases of parasitic twins are rare and believed to account for just one per one million live births, according to medical literature.

Dr Vijiyeta Garg, a gynaecologist who looked after the woman, assured the family that both mother and child could be saved.

However, her 24-year-old husband, who works as a farmer, insisted that her life was a priority and the baby should come second.

After a successful Caesarean section, the family were relieved that both managed to survive before the child was referred to JK Lone Hospital – 336 miles (540km) away.

The operation on April 26 proved to be a success – despite the young couple believing they would lose their first child, local reports suggest.

Dr Pravin Marthur, of the hospital’s paediatric unit, said: ‘This is one of the rarest cases of parasitic twin.

‘The parents told us the mother had undergone sonography and other tests but were not told about carrying an underdeveloped twin.

‘They were shattered when they saw the baby. We had to convince them to give us a nod for the surgery to save their daughter’s life.

‘After immediate consultation with a team of radiologist and support from assistant professors, we successfully removed the head from the viable child.’

The hospital did not charge the family for any health or surgery costs. The baby is recovering well and is being breastfed and will be discharged later this week.

Parasitic twins are usually a result of a delay in the separation of embryos during conception.

They are formed when one embryo maintains a dominant development at the expense of the other.
