The Federal Executive Council (FEC) has approved the sum of 24.2 billion naira for the provision of broadband internet connection in at least 20 airports, 43 schools and six marketplaces in the country.

Minister of Communication and Digital Economy, Isa Pantami, revealed this while briefing at the FEC meeting chaired by President Muhammadu Buhari at the presidential villa, Abuja on Wednesday, March 29.

Pantami said the selected local and international airports are drawn from the six geopolitical zones, with three airports from each on average.

According to him, States to benefit from the project include Lagos and Ondo for the South-West, Imo, Anambra, Enugu for the South-East, Rivers and Akwa Ibom for the South-South, Abuja and Kwara for the North Central, Kano, Sokoto and Kebbi for the North-West, and Adamawa, Maiduguri and Gombe for North-East.

The minister said the project would ease communication challenges for passengers coming and going out through the airports, as well as make online transactions seamless for them.

Pantami also explained that the broadband infrastructure will ensure connectivity to ease e-learning in schools and as well enhance the transition to cashless economy by easing mobile transactions in markets.

It would be recalled that FEC had earlier approved a similar memo for the provision of unlimited internet in 18 universities in the first phase of the project.

Controversial singer, Portable has taken to social media to show off wards of dollar notes, two hours after he was granted bail by a High Court in Ifo, Ogun State.

KanyiDaily recalls that Portable landed in police custody on Friday, March 31, 2023, after his engagement with police officers at his bar, during which one of them was allegedly injured.

Portable was seen in a video resisting attempts by the police to arrest him and also referred to himself as “a federal government liability”.

The singer claimed that an internet fraudster brought the police to his bar to arrest his staff members “for no reason”, but the police noted that it acted on a petition.

Portable was arrested on Friday, March 31, following the expiration of the 72-hour ultimatum given to him to honour police invitations extended to him five times.

The singer was subsequently before the Ifo magistrate court in Ogun on Monday, April 3, on three count charges bordering on assault and theft of musical equipment.

The court granted him bail of N300, 000 with two sureties in like sum and adjourned the case to April 26.

Shortly after being granted bail, Portable took to his Instagram page and shared photos of himself posing in front of a luxury car with dollars in his hands.

Sharing the photos, the singer thanked God for his release saying: “Alhamdulilahi”.

The funny aide arrived in London ahead of the second leg of Davido’s Timeless special performance set to hold on Wednesday, April 5.

In a video shared on social media, Isreal DMW could be seen kneeling on the streets of London with his bell while appreciating Davido for securing him tickets to the United Kingdom.

She further revealed that her brother's brutal murder had been witnessed by his heavily pregnant wife who had to watch as her husband's shattered skull and brain matter splattered all over her body. Until his death, 31 year old Onyeka Ibeh was a well-liked and respected phone dealer in the popular Ogbogonogo market located in Asaba.

Fellow traders and members of the community took to the streets to protest the brutal and unwarranted murder of the phone dealer. The Delta state police assures that the trigger-happy officer will be made to face the full wrath of the law.

Uwujaren gave the names of the alleged cybercriminals as Aparimo Ogunfunminiyi Ojoola, Olalekan Taoreed Miller, Olamide Animashaun Ademola, Rotimi Samson, Waheed Abeeb Olamilekan, Jelili Abeeb Afolabi, Olamide Azeez Ayinla, Mohammed Lawal Segun, Peter Seyi Iyanuoluwa, Akinmoju Kolawole, Ibrahim Akande Abiodun, John Oluwatimilehin Moses, Oshunrinade Samuel, Moradeyo Abeeb Abiodun, Ogunmola Oluwabori Michael, Aderomu Gbenga Michael, Akinrinola Pelumi Sunday, Adeola Tunji, Opaniyi Yakubu Olasunkanmi, Oyedele Israel Sunday, Fiyin Adebayo Omotosho, Oladele Oladimeji John, Gbolahan Qudus and Lawal Muiz Gbolahan.

Oliver Dowden has been named Britain’s new Deputy Prime Minister following the resignation of Dominic Raab.

KanyiDaily recalls that Dominic Raab resigned on Friday, April 21, after he was accused of bulling staff members while working as a cabinet minister across different UK government departments.

During the investigation conducted by Adam Tolley, evidence was heard from multiple government officials about complaints of bullying at three different departments.

Raab denied claims he belittled and demeaned his staff and said he “behaved professionally at all times” while acting as foreign secretary, Brexit secretary and justice secretary.

But in his resignation letter addressed to Rishi Sunak, UK prime minister, Raab said he decided to step down after an investigation into eight bullying allegations against him found that some of the claims made against him were justified.

Dowden Becomes UK deputy PM

Oliver Dowden had been the Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster and Cabinet Office secretary in Rishi Sunak’s government before the new appointment, and he will continue in those roles alongside his new responsibilities.

Tweeting after the announcement, he said: “Deeply honoured to have been asked to serve as deputy prime minister. I look forward to working even more closely with the prime minister as we tackle the issues that matter most to the people of this country.”

Dowden was educated at a selective state school in Hertfordshire before heading to Cambridge, where he studied law.

But he went on to work for the Tory Party as a researcher and later became a special adviser and deputy chief of staff to David Cameron.

Dowden became an MP in 2015 and represents Hertsmere in his home country, with a solid majority of over 21,000.

Dominic Raab is the third senior minister to leave the government since Rishi Sunak became prime minister.
