The Co-Convener of the Bring Back Our Girls campaign, Aisha Yesufu, on Saturday challenged the presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Peter Obi, to tell Nigerians how he intends to tackle police brutality in the country, IgbereTV reports
Yesufu made the call on her Twitter handle.
She made the call a few days after a retired Nigerian Army officer, John Enenche, who opposed the October 2020 #ENDSARS protest was listed in the LP’s presidential campaign council.
The activist was one of the frontline campaigners against police brutality during the protest.
She wrote: “Peter Obi MUST provide the answer on how he is going to tackle police brutality. No ifs or buts about it!

Lawan Auwal Abdullahi is the investor behind Strategic Capital Investment Limited (SCIL) which acquired Polaris Bank from government’s debt recovery agency, Asset Management Corporation of Nigeria (AMCON).
Prime Business Africa had reported that Strategic Capital Investment Limited acquired the commercial bank for N1.35 trillion, although the asset transfer was made with the investor still owing a balance of N1.305 trillion after making an upfront payment of N50 billion.
The acquisition of Polaris Bank was announced on Thursday by Nigeria’s financial regulator, Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), with the apex bank stating that the takeover would enable CBN and AMCON recover the amount spent on the firm after it renamed and restructured Skye Bank into Polaris Bank.
It was gathered that Lawan is the businessman that acquired Polaris Bank. While Strategic Capital Investment Limited was only registered in April 2022, just six months ago.
The investor has two other companies, Ponglomerape Limited and Nice Corporate Services Limited.

While little is known about Lawan, the businessman has investments in various sectors of Nigeria’s economy, including real estate, agriculture, trade, as well as the Oil and Gas industry.
Although Lawan has been in the line of business for over a decade, he only came into spotlight during his wedding to Halima Babangida, the second daughter and last child of former military dictator, General Ibrahim Badamosi Babangida  (IBB) (rtd), in May 2017.
The wedding grabbed media headlines due to the number of private jets used by businessmen and guests who attended the wedding. It was gathered that about 30 private jets landed in Minna Airport, Niger State for the wedding.
Lawan’s wedding to Halima was done with nine ceremonies within four days in two states, Niger and Gombe. Reports have it that the ceremonies gulped about N300 million, according to Encomium Magazine.
The businessman, who is a polygamist with three wives, paid N500,000 and bought 10 cows as dowry for Halima.
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, on Wednesday, October 26, 2022, arraigned one Oweleke Bobby Jospeh before Justice Mojisola Dada of the Special Offences Court sitting in Ikeja, Lagos on a two-count charge bordering on possession of documents containing false pretence.
The offence is contrary to Section 6 and 1 (3) of the Advance Fee Fraud and other Related Fraud Offences Act 2006.
The Conference Of Nigeria Political Parties (CNPP) has reacted to the proposed redesign of the naira notes.
The CNPP on Thursday hailed the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) over its sudden decision to redesign high denominations of Naira notes, including N200, N500 and N1,000 banknotes.
The CNPP said this in a statement issued in Abuja by its Secretary General, Chief Willy Ezugwu.
It noted that “only politicians who intended to buy votes and financially induce electoral officials, the ignorant of the import of the policy or beneficiaries of proceeds of crimes, including drug barons and kidnappers, will kick against the move by the CBN.
The statement read in part, “It is therefore obvious that many politicians, especially since 2015, amassed illicit wealth and depleted the national commonwealth to the extent that the currency in circulation has more than doubled since 2015, rising from N1.46 trillion in December 2015 to N3.2 trillion as of September 2022, according to the CBN data.
“Certainly, this is unacceptable in any economy controlled by sane financial experts.
“The CNPP is glad that the timing for this Naira notes redesign is right as there is no better time than in an election year, especially where politicians have made vote-buying an alternative to convincing the electorates through their track records and capacity to govern beyond rhetoric as well as a commitment to selling the manifestos of their political parties during campaigns.
“We urge the anti-graft units of all security agencies and commissions to use the opportunity created by the new and existing currencies exchange window from December to January 31, 2023, when the existing currencies shall cease to be a legal tender, to monitor illicit campaign financing, money laundering, terror financing, ransom to hostage takers and drug barons.
“In the same vein, bank managers should be banned by the CBN from any form of home delivery of cash to citizens and corporate organizations until after February 1, 2023, to ensure that the country reaps the gains of the CBN monetary policy.
“We equally commend President Muhammadu Buhari for his approval of the planned redesign of the currency notes, especially at this time.â€

Barely Forty Eight hours after the Governor of Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, Godwin Emefiele announced that the apex bank would redesign the country’s currency December 15, 2022, the Federal Government Friday disagreed with him.
Minister of Finance, Budget and National Planning , Zainab Ahmad who disowned the policy, said if implemented, the redesigning would portend great consequences for the nation and its economy.
Zainab who commented on the policy in response to question raised by Senator Opeyemi Bamidele, during the 2023 budget defence session, warned CBN of consequences that may arise from it .
Senator Bamidele who had in his question told the Finance Minister that barely two days after announcement of the policy by CBN , repercussion of it on the value of Naira to US dollar was being felt, said, †Just two days after announcement of the policy , value of Naira to a US dollar has risen from N740 to N788 to a US dollar due to rush in exchange of starched Naira Notes for foreign currencies , particularly dollar.

“To me , the policy may be a well conceived one , but the timing going by realities on ground , is very wrong as the Naira may fall to as low as N1,000 to a US dollar before January 31, 2023 fixed for full implementation of the policy.â€
While answering the question, the Minister said she is not aware of the policy but only heard of it from the media .
She said, †Distinguished senators , we were not consulted at the Ministry of Finance by CBN on the planned Naira redesigning and cannot comment on it as regards merits or otherwise .
“However as a Nigerian privileged to be at the top of Nigeria’s fiscal management , the policy as rolled out at this time , portends serious consequences on value of Naira to other foreign currencies.
“I will however appeal to this committee to invite the CBN governor for required explanations as regards merits of the planned policy and rightness or otherwise of its implementation now.â€
Recall that CBN Governor Emefiele had on Wednesday said that the apex bank would redesign the country’s currency from 200 Naira denomination to N1,000 notes .
Emefiele said the action was taken in order to take control of the currency in circulation just as he posited that the bulk of the nation’s currency notes were outside bank vaults and that the CBN would not allow the situation to continue.
According to him, the planned policy he added , was in line with Sections 19, Subsections a and b of the CBN Act 2007, upon which the Management of the CBN sought and obtained the approval of President Muhammadu Buhari to redesign, produce, and circulate new series of banknotes at N200, N500, and N1,000 notes.

Gistreel, yesterday, November 1st reported that the Afrobeat crooner’s son had allegedly drowned in his dad’s swimming pool.
Taking to his social media page, Ned shared a lengthy post, noting that he is deeply saddened by the loss.

The Senator representing Abia North Senatorial District, Orji Uzor Kalu has sank a borehole for the people of Abanta Amokwe Item community to alleviate the plight of residents who travel far distance in search of potable water.
A resident of the community, Kalu Ndukwe told our correspondent that the project was also in fulfillment of one of the promises made by the Chief Whip of the Senate during his visit to the area.
He expressed his gratitude to the Senator for the initiative, on behalf of the community youths. “Having a borehole here is a thing of joy to us and we are excited about it. It will help reduce residents’ stress in fetching water,†he said.
Another resident, Mrs. Nkechi John, said: “We have been using money to buy pure water here, or trek for distance to fetch water but with this borehole, our problem have been solved. We thank Senator Orji Uzor Kalu all this wonderful project and the numerous others he has done for Item people.â€
