COPENHAGEN— Denmark’s largest energy company said Russia is cutting off its gas supply as of Wednesday because it refused to pay in rubles, the latest escalation over European energy amid the war in Ukraine.

Russia previously halted natural gas supplies to Finland, Poland and Bulgaria for refusing a demand to pay in rubles. And on Tuesday, the tap was turned off to the Netherlands.

Danish energy company Ørsted said it still expected to be able to serve its customers.

Ørsted CEO, Mads Nipper, said: “We stand firm in our refusal to pay in rubles, and we’ve been preparing for this scenario. The situation underpins the need of the EU becoming independent of Russian gas by accelerating the build-out of renewable energy.”

Russian President Vladimir Putin declared in the wake of Western sanctions that “unfriendly foreign buyers” needed to open two accounts with state-owned Gazprombank, one to pay in euros and dollars as specified in contracts and another in rubles.

The Danish Energy Agency said that in the first 18 weeks of 2022, Russian gas amounted to approximately 25% of EU gas consumption. The agency said that Denmark losing its supply would not have immediate consequences

“We still have gas in Denmark, and consumers can still have gas delivered,” Kristoffer Böttzauw, head of the Danish Energy Agency. said in a statement Monday. “But we have plans ready if the situation worsens.”

Since there is no pipeline going directly from Russia to Denmark, Russia will not be able to directly cut off gas supplies to Denmark, which still will be able to get it, Ørsted said. Russia’s move means that Denmark must purchase more gas on the European gas market, the company added.

Denmark has been a net exporter of natural gas for many years, but because its Tyra field in the North Sea is being renovated, the country currently imports about 75% of its gas consumption via Germany. The Tyra field is expected to reopen in mid-2023.

In Denmark, some 380,000 households use natural gas for heating via gas boilers, the agency said.

On Tuesday, the leaders of the European Union agreed to cut around 90% of all Russian oil imports over the next six months. The 27-nation bloc has relied on Russia for 25% of its crude and 40% of its natural gas.

British singer, Emeli Sande’s ex-boyfriend has been stabbed to death while out celebrating the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee on Friday morning, June 3.

Rapper Hypo, whose real name was Lamar Jackson died in a fatal stabbing following a “trivial row” at a party.

According to Mail Online, a murder investigation is underway after Hypo, 39, was repeatedly knifed when a brawl broke out following a ‘trivial row’ just after midnight in Woodford Green, east London.

It was also reported that paramedics rushed to the scene and found the artist suffering from stab wounds, however, they were unable to save him and he was pronounced dead at the scene.

No arrests have been made and the area around the party is still cordoned off, Met Police said, as they urged anyone with relevant footage to come forward.

Hypo, who recently got engaged, had reportedly got into a ‘trivial row’ at the party, being held in a large marquee, before being fatally stabbed, reports the Sun.

Hours before his death, the leading figure of the Mashtown rappers collective filmed himself being driven in a Bentley on the way to the event in an Instagram story shared with his 23,000-plus followers.

Scottish songstress Emeli and Hypo dated for around a year before splitting in 2017, but are said to have remained friends.

In March 2016 they enjoyed a trip to Jamaica together, with a source at the time claiming he had given the Aberdeen-born star a ‘whole new wave of inspiration.’

Disgraced US attorney, Michael Avenatti was sentenced to four years in jail for stealing book financial proceeds from his client, Stormy Daniels, a former porn star he represented against former US president, Donald Trump.



The lawyer was sentenced to four years in a Manhattan federal courtroom on Thursday, June 2. Since he is currently incarcerated, he will spend another 2 1/2 years in prison in addition to the 2 1/2 years he is already serving for another fraud conviction.


Avenatti was convicted of wire fraud and aggravated identity theft for stealing about $300,000 from Daniels that she was supposed to receive in connection with a book contract.

The customer data platform (CDP) is one of the fastest-growing categories of marketing technology today. In order to understand why, you have to look at some of the underlying challenges in marketing related to data and personalization.

What does a customer data platform do?

We live in an era where the customer is in control. Amazon can predict what products we will buy next. Netflix recommends the shows we like with great accuracy. Customers want personalized experiences and fast service, and expect companies to have an intimate understanding of their preferences. It’s no longer a marketing advantage to deliver on this — it’s table stakes.

When it comes to marketing, customers want the interactions they have on a company’s website to translate to their mobile app experiences and even in-store visits. The problem is that, for most companies, those environments operate from different data sets — even though the customer is the same. 

As customers move from channel to channel, they expect their experiences to be consistent and “in the moment.” Most customer journeys involve three or more different channels (email, web, and mobile app, for example), and customers tend to move seamlessly and quickly between these channels. Many companies, however, don’t have these data environments connected in real time.

The result is a disconnected experience for consumers and the lack of a single source of truth about customers for the marketer.

That’s where a CDP comes in. It’s the glue that combines all of that data in a meaningful way for companies, allowing them to offer personalized experiences and make the customer journey easier and simpler. 

How does a customer data platform work?

The first thing CDPs do is connect all of a company’s customer data in a single place. That means not only stitching together a single customer ID from many different customer interactions, but also tying together databases that traditionally don’t share data, like marketing clouds, service software, and ecommerce engines. We call that customer resolution.

The next thing CDPs have to do is reconcile our identities for our known customers (like email and mobile numbers) with what we know about customers before they share their data (anonymous cookies and mobile device IDs, as an example). This way, we can start to associate a journey that started with an email campaign and continued onto the website with the same customer. We think of this as a cross-device identity.

Once the CDP has created unified profiles of customers, the system has to make that data available in real time so companies can deliver personalized experiences. That means connecting customer data to many different types of systems, such as  email-send engines, demand-side platforms, and content management systems. 

In a nutshell, CDPs are concerned with these primary tasks: data collection, data unification, data activation, and data insights.

What are customer data platforms used for?

Here are a few examples, and they aren’t all related to marketing.

Suppression 

Sometimes the best use of data in marketing isn’t used to better target consumers — but to not target them at all. We’ve all had the experience of being targeted online by ads for things we’ve already bought. 

The reason companies have a hard time stopping ads for the sneakers (or car) we have already purchased is disconnected data. A unified profile that connects marketing and purchase data enables marketers to be smarter with their budgets  by suppressing consumers that have already made a purchase, and redirecting those dollars toward net-new customers, or recommending other products.

Personalization

Say a consumer comes to your website, browses a particular product (new red convertible), and leaves. Wouldn’t it be great if you could tie everything you’ve learned about that customer to a personalized offer (test-drive that Honda today and get $500 off MSRP!) via email or push notification? You can only do that by connecting that consumer’s identity and making that customer data available to the marketing platforms you use. 

CDPs make the unified profile available to all addressable channels, enabling personalization and relevancy. Customers who see content tailored to their interests (test-drive this red convertible today!) are much more likely to engage  with a brand.

Insights

What drives better marketing? The answer has always been better customer insights, but most analytics systems operate in silos. Email engagement data is separate from website analytics data, and apart from display advertising data. Stitching that customer data together, and tying all of those interactions with the same consumer takes a herculean effort.

What if an outdoor retailer had a customer’s marketing interactions (email and advertising engagement) tied together with their ecommerce data (purchase history) and website interaction data (products viewed multiple times) – and made that information available to a service rep in the call center?

A bit of data science (customers who purchased this tent online, and opened email promotions for these hiking boots, and spent between $250 and $1000 annually, usually buy this backpack) can reveal the right product recommendations to the call center agent, who can make a personalized, relevant offer on the spot. This type of personalization can turn a $15/hour call center rep into a $100,000 a year salesperson. That’s the power of a CDP.

Nollywood actress, Kemi Afolabi has reacted to the controversial report that she attended a popular church to get healed from lupus, a disease she has battled for months.

Disowning the photo and the report, Kemi noted that she is a devout Muslim and that there was never a time when she visited any church for healing.

I am a devout Muslim who believes in calling on God and seeking his face in times of need, this I have done consistently and JOY is certain in the End.

Ketanji Jackson Brown has been sworn in as the first black female Supreme Court justice.

She was sworn in on Thursday by Justice Stephen Breyer, whose seat she is taking with his retirement from the bench.

Brown recited the Judicial Oath back to Jackson as he officially became a retired justice and she took her post following her confirmation earlier this year.

Breyer's final term saw several controversial decisions with the new 6-3 conservative majority following the death of Ruth Bader Ginsburg.

The consequential term saw the landmark abortion case Roe v. Wade overturned.

The justices gathered Thursday for the swearing-in ceremony after their final two opinions of the term were issued on Thursday – including one that upheld President Joe Biden's move to terminate the Trump-era Migrant Protection Protocols (MPP).

President Muhammadu Buhari Wednesday visited the Medium Security Custodial Centre, Kuje attacked by terrorists, spending about 30 minutes there.

Soon after he arrived, he was briefed about the attack by the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Interior, Dr. Shuaib Mohammad Lamido Belgore and the Controller General of Nigerian Correctional Service, Haliru Nababa, showing him the bombed-out section used to access first, and the records office which was set on fire, adding that the invaders thereafter launched an attack on all cells in which Boko Haram terrorists were held.

The President was apprised that, at the end of it, none of the 63 terrorists are accounted for, but it was emphasized that records are not lost because they have been backed up.
President Buhari, who, like most Nigerians was shocked by both the scale and audacity of the attack queried: “How did the defences at the prison fail to prevent the attack? How many inmates were in the facility? How many of them can you account for? How many personnel did you have on duty? How many of them were armed? Were there guards on the watchtower? What did they do? Does the CCTV work?” Question after question.

The President was also informed that the security forces have recaptured 350 of the escapees while about 450 others are still unaccounted for, and that rapid work is under way to recapture the rest.
After inspecting some of the points impacted by the attack, President Buhari spoke to newsmen, expressing disappointment with the intelligence system (and utilization).

“I am disappointed with the intelligence system. How can terrorists organize, have weapons, attack a security installation and get away with it?”

The President, accompanied by Boss Mustapha, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Professor Ibrahim Gambari, the Chief of Staff, said at the end of the visit that he is expecting “a comprehensive report” on the incident.
The Presidency wishes to use this opportunity to react to mounting criticism of the trip to Dakar, Senegal by the President, and to stress that Governments don’t stop working because nations face terrorist threats. To cancel the trip to Senegal would mean that the terrorists are successful in calling the shots, something that no responsible government in the world will allow.
