3-year-old girl saved by her grandfather who gave her his kidney by Humblemind(f) : 7:44 pm On Aug 21

A 3-year-old girl who had limited time to live after birth received a life-saving gift from her from her 64-year-old granddad who donated his kidney to her.

According to The Sun UK, Little Penny Powell was born 10 weeks premature on December 8, 2013, weighing just 1lb 5oz. She was born with abnormal kidneys, chronic lung disease and two holes in her heart, and doctors believed she would only last a matter of hours.

Doctors also revealed that she won't be able to breathe on her own, after having to make 11 visits to the intensive care unit at Birmingham Children's Hospital since birth.

In June last year her dad Stuart, 39, received another sad news that she wasn't going to live beyond the age of five without a new kidney.

After the whole family was tested, it was only Penny's granddad John, 64, who shared her rare rhesus negative blood type. The doting granddad-of-four, who lives with wife Vicky, 63, in Evesham, Worcs, had his kidney taken out at Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham on June 2, in what is thought to be the biggest age gap between donor and patient.

He and Penny, who lives with her parents in Sutton Coldfield, Birmingham, have now recovered fully from their operations.

(Episode 20) The Trials of A Man… A Story of Love and War by Humblemind(f) : 6:34 am On Aug 25

Don Papi ran towards where he had seen Omonigho fall. He had another gun in his hand. He pointed it at Mama Africa, who ignored him and moved around the boys, some of who were still lying on the sand, too high to stand up on their own. She pushed the boys include Wale back to the position they were before. Their bodies were slippery with the blood of the three dead girls, so they kept on slipping her grasp. She cursed as she struggled to push them back into position.

Don Papi: “Mama Africa don’t move or I will shoot.” He said.

Mama Africa continued to ignore him and chanted incantations as she continued to arrange the boys back to their position. Don Papi stared at the prone body of Omonigho and tried to see if he was breathing or dead but he couldn’t. Omonigho was half inside the water and half on the sand. He turned back to Mama Africa and cocked the gun. She stopped moving and stared at him – her eyes as yellow as the moon that hung in the sky like a torch with low battery. She smiled and stepped forward towards him.

Don Papi: “if you move another inch, I will shoot you.” he said loudly. He wasn’t too sure if there was a bullet in the gun and he had seen what she had done to Omonigho, so he moved back slowly.

He pressed the trigger and all that came out was a click. There was no bullet in the gun. He looked back to see just one of his men still standing, the rest were splayed all over the place in different poses of death. Then his eyes caught the gleam of a cutlass, he ran towards it and picked it. He held it with two hands and spread his legs waiting for the attack. Mama Africa laughed.

Mama Africa: “you are so little, Ebenezer – playing crime lord with your little band of petty thieves and cutthroats. I could kill you with my bare hands you know. Come to me Ebenezer, come and suckle from Mama Africa.” She said, holding out her shriveled breasts to the moon.

Don Papi felt an unseen power grab hold of him. He started to move towards the woman, his eyes wide with fear. He had no control over his limbs. He tried to scream but something snatched the howl from his lips before they could come out. He could not take his eyes off Mama Africa’s breasts. Then with a force of will, he threw the cutlass at her. The cutlass did not come close to her but fell to the side. Mama Africa laughed.

Don Papi stood before her and bent before one shriveled distended nipple and took it into his mouth.

Mama Africa: “yes, oh yes… that is good. You are now mine.” She said, then she burst into harsh laughter…then the laughed slipped to a cough. She coughed again and blood fell from her lips.

Don Papi felt the power free him and he jumped backwards, spitting in disgust. He looked at Mama Africa as she slowly fell to her knees. Behind her stood Omonigho and jutting from her back was the cutlass. Don Papi stared then he laughed hysterically.

Omonigho: “I vowed never to kill again, now I have killed. I am doomed.” He said, staring at his hands.

Don Papi: “my friend we need to leave here. If Major Okirika finds his mother dead, he will destroy this town to find the killers. Let’s go.” He said, beckoning to his man still standing some distance away.

Together the three of them carried the five children and struggled through the forest back to where the truck was parked.

Temisan sat and listened to the property agent explained that although he had done several deals with Okiemute in the past, they had always met at a bar or a hotel lounge. He swore that he did not know where Okiemute could be at the moment. She left with the address of a hotel, he was known to frequent.

Temisan got to her house, filling tired and frustrated. The bruises on her body were healing but they still hurt a bit. She got down from the Keke and paid the driver. She entered her premises to see Mrs Akalaba seated on her doorstep, her head bowed.

Temisan:”Eunice where have you been? We have been looking all over the town for you.” she said, rushing to meet her.

Mrs Akalaba: “my little girl is dying, Temisan.”  She replied, as she raised her head.

Temisan could see that her eyes were red with crying. She sat down beside her and placed her arm around her shoulder

Temisan: “where is she?” she asked.

Mrs Akalaba: “she is receiving treatment but the doctors do not think she will survive. She was poisoned.” She said, in between sobs.

Temisan: “Jesus! Where is Okereke?” she suddenly asked.

Mrs Akalaba: “he said he was going to the hospital to meet your friend, the doctor but she said he never came.”

Temisan: “why did you come here, Eunice?” she asked.

Mrs Akalaba: “I could not seat there and watch my baby die. You are always so strong and courageous. I don’t know, I just thought seeing you would help.” She replied.

Temisan sighed and got up and dragged the weeping woman up. They walked back to the road and boarded a keke that took them to the hospital. At the reception, they met Mamus crying by himself. As soon as he saw them, he ran to them and hugged his mother.

Mamus: “mummy the doctor took Kevwe away.” He said, his voice muffled by his mother’s stomach.

Temisan rushed to the intensive care unit followed by Mrs Akalaba and Mamus. They met a nurse cleaning the room where Kevwe had been placed before.

Mrs Akalaba: “where is my daughter?” she asked.

Nurse: “I am sorry ma, she could not make it. She passed away fifteen minutes ago.” She replied, looking at Mrs Akalaba sadly.

Mrs Akalaba burst into fresh tears. Temisan tried to console her but there are some pains that are simply not appeased. She sighed and sat on the bed, and stared out through the window as rain fell outside, wind blew and leaves fell to the grass.

Some few minutes later, a soldier came and demanded that they escort him to the barracks. The four of them drove in a military vehicle to the barracks and then on to the office of the Army Officer handling the bombing case. They were shown into her office.

Army Officer: “please sit.” She said. All of them sat down. “I have information for you, Mrs Akalaba, and a question.” She added.

Mrs Akalaba looked at her questioningly, as she sniffled into a handkerchief given to her by Temisan.

Army Officer: “we would like to know where Okereke is?” she said

Mrs Akalaba told her what she had told Temisan. The army officer then went on to tell Mrs Akalaba of Okereke’s role in the bombing as well as Efuru’s confession of Okereke’s intention to revenge her husband’s killing of his wife. Mrs Akalaba wailed, placing her hands on her head and falling to the floor. Temisan helped her back up and placed her on the chair as she wept.

Army Officer: “I am sorry to be the bearer of bad news – it would seem that Okereke poisoned your daughter.” She said softly.

Mrs Akalaba’s body shook as she sobbed. Mamus came to her and held her. both of them cried and Temisan watched them helplessly then she turned to the Army Officer

Temisan: “you said you have information. Was that it?” she asked.

Army Officer: “oh no…I don’t know how you will take this news Mrs Akalaba – your husband is alive and it is believed that he is on his way back to Warri.” She said

Mrs Akalaba raised her head and stared at the army officer in shocked silence then she burst into hysterical laughter. She turned to Temisan, still laughing

Mrs Akalaba: “he is alive. The Butcher is alive.” She laughed then suddenly she screamed and jumped up in violent rage.

They had to hold her down and she was injected and taken to the hospital.

Question: It seems Omonigho’s wife is not happy to hear that he is alive. Why did she react to the news like that? Will Major Okirika let his mother’s death go unpunished?
