The girl’s body was discovered by the roadside by students rushing down to classes for lectures very early in the morning. They all gathered round her body, before the arrival of the police and ambulance service to convey her remains to the morgue. A student spoke from among the crowd.
Student: “wait, is this not Fumbi?†she said as she forced her way closer to the dead girl on the ground among the crowd. Another student spoke from the crowd.
Second Student: “do you know her?†he asked looking at the student in face.
First Student: “yes! She is in my department. I know her very well. What could have happened to her?†she asked nodding her head, with her eyes heavy with tears.
Second Student: “who knows? Maybe she was used for ritualsâ€. He said shrugging off his shoulders as he saw blood stain coming in her genital.
First Student: “agh! What a wicked world!†she exclaimed, biting her finger. Few minutes afterwards, the police arrived to convey her body to the mortuary.
The girl with whom Fumbi walked before the attack went to the police station to give report of what she witnessed the night of the attack ad how she was able to escape the deadly attack. She met a female police officer at the reception desk.
Girl: “good afternoon ma!†she greeted looking around and a bit afraid.
Police officer: “yes, how can I help you?†she asked looking so serious.
Girl: “yes ma. My name is Henrietta, I am a friend to the girl that was killed yesterday on campus†she explained looking frightened and her statement got the attention of the officer. So, she told her to hold on a bit for her to get her colleague.
Police Officer: “Sir, this lady came here today to report a case, but I asked her to hold on. I want you to be present here to hear what she has to sayâ€. She said, giving a salute.
Sergeant Rufus: “so, hello young lady! Can we hear your report?†he requested, resting his elbow on the desk and listening with rapt attention to the lady.
Henrietta: “yes†she cleared her throat. “As I was saying, my name is Henrietta, a friend to Fumbi, the girl that was killed last nightâ€. She said, weeping
Sergeant Rufus: “ehen, yes I am hearing you?†he asked, looking at her suspiciously.
Henrietta: “Fumbi and I were coming from a friend’s place last night, when some guys asked us to sop in the middle of the road. I was able to escape from them…â€the sergeant cut in
Sergeant Rufus: “ehen, when you escape nko, what happen next? Do you know the guys? Or if you see them will you be able to identify them?†he asked, looking fixedly at the girl.
Henrietta: “I have come to report that I know some of the guys. That place was where they usually stay at night†she explained weeping.
Police Officer: “you know it is their territory and oyu still go and pass the place at night?†she asked, straining he eyes and eyeing the girl. The Sergeant waved his fingers to hush her not to disrupt the conversation.
Sergeant Rufus: “but why did you pass that route that night, and still left you friend behind? Your coming here to me has no meaningâ€. He said, facing his palm up.
Henrietta: “I am sorry sir! I know one of the guys. One of them is among the notorious cultists in school†she said, weeping and twisting her fingers. The Sergeant got more interest in the topic.
Sergeant Rufus: “okay, can you recognise them if you see anyone of them?’ he asked looking at her.
Henrietta: “yes sir! There is one of them that is called dragon. He is very popular in school and he was very close to Don before he diedâ€. She explained, looking face down and crying.
Sergeant Rufus: “wow!†he said, shaking his head in an up and down direction, looking at the direction of the police. “Constable†he called the female police officer with him.
Constable: “o ya collect her report and details about her and let her goâ€. He said, as he headed for the office. The Constable gave the girl a note and a pen to give report of what she witnessed the previous night.

Erelu: “who can that be? I have somewhere to go o jare. I am running late. My customers will be waiting for meâ€. She grumbled as she went for the receiver.
Caller: “hello! Please I am calling from the Ake Divisional Police Station. Am I speaking to Mrs Mate?’ the caller asked.
Erelu: “this is the Mate’s house. But you are speaking to Erelu Mateâ€. She said, looking at her wristwatch, feeling impatient. “How can I help you?’ she asked.
The Caller: “okay, your attention is needed in our station about your daughter†the caller said.
Erelu: “my daughter? Your station? What has she done? I don’t have a criminal as daughterâ€. She asked, adjusting the neck of her guinea brocade kaftan.
The Caller: “no not at all. She is not a criminal. She has not committed any offence, something happened in her school that involved her, so, that is why I am callingâ€.
Erelu: “and the matter cannot be discussed on phone, except I come to your station?†she asked, gesticulating.
The Caller: “no, not all ma. You have to come downâ€. The caller said.
Erelu: “okay. I am coming with my driverâ€. She said as she hung the receiver. “I don’t the wahala this girl has put herself into that involves the police now. That one is their headache, na money e go chop Muf! Mufu!†She soliloquised, calling the driver.

The Dean was going out to see one of his fellow reverend in his own branch, when he saw a vehicle that resembled the one he was familiar with. He pulled over to have a close look at the car parked by the roadside. Fortunately, the owner of the vehicle came out from a house. The dean, however was pushed to call on the person, but he quickly controlled himself, and the fellow turned back and saw the Dean. The eyes met. But the dean drove off, nodding his head.
Rev Ikukoyi: “wait o, this car looks familiarâ€. He soliloquised. “Let me have a close lookâ€. He pulled over to look at the vehicle very well from his car. “agh!†he exclaimed as he saw the owner of the car coming out from a building.  He quickly controlled himself, looking away to avoid another eye contact with the person.

The Mates were thrown into another mourning after the news of Fumbi’s death had been broken to Erelu. The Dean, few members of the Cathedral and other sympathisers were gathered at the Mates’ house to sympathise with them. This time, the Bishop paid a condolence visit to the family upon the death of their daughter. Erelu was seen rolling on the floor, weeping uncontrollably.
Erelu: “agh! I am doomed. What am I left with? Nothing!†she exclaimed, spreading her palms out and slapping her thighs. A sympathiser spoke from the corner of the room.
Sympathiser: “Mama Fumbi, it is okay. Don’t cry again. There is nothing God cannot do†the sympathiser condoled, nodding.
Erelu: “are you telling me God will wake her up? Or God will provide another child for me at this age? Which one tell me?†she asked, biting her finger and weeping. The first wife, Mama Kunle, spoke to condole her.
Mrs Mate: “hmmmm, Mama Fumbi, it is okay. Just take heart. I know understand how you feel. We were all here when Kunle died last year, and what will I do? I have left everything for God to handle. I can’t fight itâ€. She advised, weeping as well.
Rev Ikukoyi: “hmmmm, Mama Fumbi, you have heard from Mama, there is nothing you can do about it. She is gone to be with the Lord. Let the police do their job. I am sure the perpetrators will definitely get arrested and they shall pay for their evil deedsâ€. He said, looking face down.
Erelu: “hahahahha, Mama Kunle, you will not understandâ€. She said, looking in her direction and sobbing.
Bishop Agbabiaka: “mama Fumbi, just take heart I know how painful it is. But there is nothing we can do about it. God gives and takesâ€.
Erelu: “hmmmmm, God gives and takes? Hahahhhahha. That is true. Very very true. God gives and takesâ€. She said, laughing hysterically. “Yes, truly God gave me Fumbi, but out of unbelief and wickedness, I killed her with my two handsâ€. She said, clapping her palms and everyone in the room were amazed at her statement, looking into each other’s eyes with surprises. Mrs Ikukoyi asked her to be sure she had not run mad as a result of shock what she meant by the statement she made.
Mrs Ikukoyi: “How do you mean. This girl was killed by cultists on campus. Be calm madamâ€. She said, holding her shoulders.
Erelu:â€you will not understandâ€. She replied, weeping. The husband, Chief Mate was becoming impatient, so he asked her:
Chief Mate: “please, make us understandâ€. He asked, adjusting his trouser and sitting at the edge of the chair. And the whole room was submerged in absolute silence.
Erelu: “hahaha, I am doomedâ€. She wailed, putting her hands on her head. “As we all know, it took me years to have a child since I lost my first child. And when I gave birth to Fumbi, I was happy having another child again which is why I named her Fumbi. I was afraid of losing her, so I went to see my friend, who advised me to join their club so that my daughter would be protected from another death. That is how I joined the group. And they kept demanding sacrifices. And I cannot sacrifice the daughter I am protecting, so, it was around that time that Kunle came back from England and I sacrificed himâ€. She confessed, weeping. There was pandemonium in the whole room. Mama Kunle stood up to pounce on Erelu like an angry lioness and tear her apart, but she was held by some sympathisers in the room. “agh, vanity upon vanity, the child I joined cult to protect was eventually killed. What is my gain?’ she said weeping. Chief Mate stood up, looking face down as he entered his room and the Bishop followed him. Erelu was about to speak again and she became dumb, throwing up blood and slumped to the floor and died!

The Dean was in the church premise that hosted the synod at night when he felt a tap at his shoulder from the back. He turned back to look at the fellow and his mouth was gagged. The host church sexton was coming in the direction and the perpetrator immediately left him and walked away.
Sexton: “sir, what happened to you?†he asked, raising his shoulder up.
Rev Ikukoyi: “I – am okayâ€. He replied, coughing and pointing his fingers in the direction of the attacker. The sexton looked in the direction.
Sexton: “sir, I can’t see anything. Nobody is thereâ€. He said, looking up again
Rev Ikukoyi: “okay, you can go. I will be fineâ€. He said, as he struggled to stand up and leave.

Senior Officer: “why did you ask him to go?†he asked, standing up from his post. “Have you checked his car?’ he asked. “o ya, mr Man, park†he shouted at the dean.
Rev Ikukoyi: “what is it again? I have shown him my document. What more?†he said, as he pulled over.
Senior Officer: “we are doing our duty. So let us do the necessary thing. Come down and open your boot†he ordered him.
Rev Ikukoyi: “hmmmm, this is seriousâ€. He said, as he opened the boot. “Agh!†he exclaimed. “What is this?â€
