World 100m Champion Christian Coleman Banned for Two Years by Folake(f) : 4:35 am On Oct 29

World 100m champion Christian Coleman has been banned for two years after missing three drugs tests.

The 24-year-old American, who is suspended from 14 May 2020, will miss the postponed Tokyo Olympics next year.

Coleman won 100m gold at the World Championships in Doha in 2019.

The indoor 60m world record holder has 30 days to file an appeal against the Athletics Integrity Unit’s (AIU) decision to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (Cas).

Two-time world champion Coleman, who also won 4x100m relay gold in Doha, was provisionally suspended in June after missing the third test in December 2019.

Three whereabouts failures in a 12-month period can result in a ban of up to two years.

Coleman did not contest his first missed test on 16 January 2019 but disputed his filing failure on 26 April 2019 and whereabouts failure on 9 December.

The investigation into his rule violations said there was no suggestion he had ever taken a banned substance.

However, Coleman’s attitude towards his anti-doping obligations was described as “entirely careless, perhaps even reckless” by the AIU.

According to the AIU’s out-of-competition testing guidelines, athletes are accountable for missed tests if they are not at their specified location for the one-hour period they have stated. The tester must wait for the full 60 minutes before leaving.

Coleman said he was Christmas shopping “five minutes away” from home, and that the tester made no effort to contact him during his third whereabouts failure.

He also said on social media that he would be “willing to take a drug test every single day for the rest of my career” to prove his innocence.

Doping control officers said they waited outside for a full hour, ringing and knocking every 10 minutes.

The AIU said shopping receipts belonging to Coleman suggested he was “obviously” not at his home for the entirety of the one-hour period.

Coleman said he returned home before the one-hour period ended at 8:15pm because he “recalled watching the kick-off of the Monday night football game”.

However, the AIU said receipts showed Coleman purchased items at 7:53pm and 8:22pm and that it was “simply impossible” for him to have returned home in between, while the officers took a photo of his residence at 8:21pm to show it was empty before leaving.

The US Anti-Doping Agency (Usada) initially charged Coleman with missing three drugs tests in 12 months, before his world 100m victory in September 2019.

It withdrew the case after it was proved there had been a filing irregularity regarding the date of the first missed test.

We have no excuse, It’s time to restructure Nigeria – Governor El-Rufai by Folake(f) : 7:11 am On Nov 02

Governor of Kaduna State, Nasir El-Rufai says it is time to restructure Nigeria in order to ensure equitable distribution of resources.

He said this during a public lecture on Saturday, October 31. He maintained that restructuring the country is in the best interest of ensuring sustainable development.

El-Rufai, who cited the 2018 recommendations of the APC committee on restructuring, noted that there was a need to reorganise the country’s constitutional framework in order to give states more control over certain resources.

“It is time to make this sort of well-defined restructuring work, for the benefit of the peoples of this country. The report of our APC true federalism committee puts in one place the recommendations, and the legislative amendments to give life to a restructured polity.

I therefore call on our federal legislators and the national assembly ad hoc committee on constitutional review to take advantage of our report and initiate the constitutional and legislative amendments in either a piece-meal or comprehensive manner without further delay.

We, therefore, have no excuse not to seize this moment and do the heavy lifting for our country and our people. It is in our hands to make the structures, laws and constitutional arrangements in our country conducive to modern governance that will ensure our nation thrives in the 21st century,” he said.

#EndSARS Protests: Gov. Ugwuanyi Appeals to Police Officers to Return to Duty Posts (Photos) by Folake(f) : 7:00 am On Nov 05

Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu State, on Wednesday, passionately appealed to men and officers of the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) to fully renew their ultimate commitment towards the provision of security of lives and property by returning to their duty posts across the state.

Gov. Ugwuanyi made the appeal when he visited the Senior Police Officers Mess, Agbani Road, Enugu, to address and commiserate with the members of the Enugu State Police Command, over loss of lives of private citizens and security personnel, grievous bodily injuries as well as destruction of private and public properties including security infrastructure.

The governor who described the mayhem unleashed by miscreants and hoodlums that hijacked the hitherto peaceful #EndSARS protests as “an unusual and challenging period for the Police Force” pointed out that it was needless and “an ill-wind that blew no one any good”.

Gov. Ugwuanyi stated that his administration “in our sensitivity to the mood and pains of the society under our watch,” has set up an Administrative Panel of Inquiry to determine the loss of lives and other damages and has also taken time to inspect the various degrees and nature of damage arising from the hijacked protests.

He added that his administration earnestly awaits the recommendations of the panel, reiterating its commitment to implement same with a view to soothing the pains of the security personnel and private citizens who were victims of the mayhem.

Noting that the psyche of the officers and men of the Police Force have been assaulted by the recent sad experience, the governor, who called for a minute’s silence for the deceased, expressed concern that “the self-evident low morale of the Police Force occasioned by the fallout of the #EndSARS protests has, in our judgment, increased the likelihood of crime in the state.

“I therefore passionately implore you to fully renew your commitment to the provision of security of lives and property in the state, as was the case before the protests. The good people of Enugu State had, before now, enjoyed your excellent policing service and wish that you come fully on stream and return to all the security posts in the state”, he said.

While thanking the people of Enugu State for their prayers, support and solidarity “in this challenging period”, Gov. Ugwuanyi equally urged them to renew their cooperation and partnership with the personnel of the security agencies to sustain the tempo of peace and good governance in the state.

Earlier in his welcome remarks, the Enugu State Commissioner of Police, CP Ahmad Abdurrahman, expressed the deepest appreciation of the Command to Gov. Ugwuanyi for his humility, sense of responsibility, concern, care and love.

Abdurrahman also commended the governor for finding it necessary and expedient, in spite of his tight schedule, to come and commiserate with the men and officers of the Command, over the unfortunate fallout of the #EndSARS protests.

The CP maintained that the visit signified that “we are under a very comfortable hand and care”.

He therefore urged the police officers to pray for the governor as well as extend “our love, dedication and patriotism to him to enable him comfortably discharge his responsibilities that God has placed on his shoulders”.

Enugu State is in the hands of God!

Border Reopening: ‘Was Nigeria Created For Dangote Or Was Dangote Created For Nigeria?’ – FFK by Folake(f) : 6:12 am On Nov 11

The Nigerian government has allowed Dangote Cement to resume exports across its land borders which have been closed for over a year; and this has raised brows, IgbereTV reports.

BUA Group and a gas company have also received presidential approval to move goods across the land borders, Joseph Attah, the spokesperson for Nigerian Customs, said.

A number of Nigerians reacted asking the reason for this preferential treatment.

Former Aviation Minister, Femi Fani-Kayode reacted on Instagram by sharing a photo of Dangote and writing:

“During the Covid19 lockdown Dangote trucks were allowed to drive through Ogun state but everyone else was stopped.

“Today Dangote trucks are allowed to go through our land borders but everyone else is stopped.

“Was Nigeria created for Dangote or was Dangote created for Nigeria?”

Asya Branch From Mississippi Wins Miss USA 2020 by Folake(f) : 7:34 am On Nov 12

Miss Mississippi USA Asya Branch has been crowned Miss USA 2020, months after the pageantry was postponed due to the Coronavirus pandemic.

The 22-year-old was named winner of the competition at a ceremony which took place at Elvis Presley’s Graceland in Memphis, Tennessee on Monday evening.

She was crowned by her predecessor Miss USA 2019 Chelsie Kryst at the event in which Miss Idaho USA Kim Layne was the first runner-up, while Miss Oklahoma USA Mariah Jane Davis was the second runner-up.

Asides being the first Black Miss Mississippi, she is also the first Mississippian to win the Miss USA title.  In her final statement in the contest, Branch addressed gun laws.

She said;

“As someone who grew up in a home with guns, I learned at an early age how to load, how to fire and gun safety. And, I think that education should be available to everyone. I believe that we should require people to pass training and safety courses before they’re allowed to purchase a gun and before receiving a permit.

“I think it’s important that we not ban guns because obviously people will find a way to get what they want anyways. But I think it’s our Second Amendment right and we just need more safety surrounding that.”
