Ex-Nigeria international and former West Bromwich Albion forward Peter Osaze Odemwingie celebrated scoring yet another goal for his new club.

Odemwingie joined Madura United on a six months contract having stayed clubless for 3 months but the Nigerian did not show any sign of rustiness as he kept on firing on all cylinders for his Indonesia side.

The former Stoke City attacker has now notched up 2 goals from 2 games for his new club with the latest being a goal in the 2-2 draw in a league match. Osaze took to his favorite twitter to announce the bitter sweet of scoring and drawing a game after the match.

“We deserved all 3 points today but drew at home 2-2. Another 90′ under my belt and 2nd goal for me@MaduraUnitedFC” said Odemwingie.

David Mark, former senate president, says former President Goodluck Jonathan made the national assembly delay passing the anti-gay bill because of concerns former US President Barack Obama raised at the time he was seeking re-election. Mark made this claim in ‘Against the Run of Play’, a book which chronicles how Jonathan lost the 2015 presidential election, written by Olusegun Adeniyi, a journalist and bestselling author.
The former president’s relationship with the Obama administration was at first “rosy” before it became frosty.

In the book, Jonathan blamed Obama for his electoral defeat, saying in 2014 it became clear that the former US president wanted a change of government in Nigeria. This was after he had signed into law a bill prohibiting same-sex marriage.

Mark told Adeniyi that Jonathan caused a delay in the passage of the bill because of Obama.

“President Jonathan called me that President Obama had sent to him a message of concerns about the bill. That was in 2012 at a time Obama was seeking a second term in office,” he said.

“President Jonathan asked what could be done and I told him that not only was I committed to the passage of the bill that was also the position of the national assembly.

“I said the only thing I could do was delay its passage till after the American presidential election. But I assured him that the same-sex marriage was not something we would legalise in Nigeria.

“We delayed it for a few months after that, but we eventually passed the bill into law and President Jonathan had to assent.”

The national assembly under Mark passed the same-sex marriage prohibition bill in May 2013. And Jonathan signed it into law on 13 January, 2014.

The law prescribes 14 years imprisonment for those convicted of homosexuality.

A lucky Kenyan, Samuel Abisai has won more than $2m (£1.5m) for correctly predicting 17 football matches in a competition run by betting company SportPesa. The payout is set to be one of the biggest in Africa. The winner will be unveiled at an event in the capital, Nairobi.
A statement from SportPesa says its CEO Ronald Karauri called the winner who was already celebrating:

The consumer said he met his friend with whom they bet and as they were discussing what to do with the millions a call came through.

The CEO advised the winner, who was screaming, to end his night out, to which he said, ‘I’m going home right away'. "

It also said the winner placed $2 on two mega jackpot picks in which he had to predict the outcomes of 17 games selected by SportPesa.

The Lagos State Government on Tuesday said that its yearly budget might hit N1tn by 2018.

The state also plans to generate N50bn internal revenue per month by next year.

The state Commissioner for Economic Planning and Budget, Mr Akinyemi Ashade, said this at the ongoing ministerial briefing to commemorate the second year in office of Gov. Akinwunmi Ambode.

The size of the state’s 2017 budget is N812.998bn, while that of 2016 was N662.588bn.

According to Ashade, to achieve the trillion naira budget, the government will adopt strategies such as aggressive growth in IGR through taxes and non-tax revenues.

He said that other strategies would include full deployment of Oracle Business Solutions to eliminate revenue leakages, sustainable fiscal balance with the appropriate level of public sector borrowing and acceptable aggregate public debt.

“We shall foster a robust environment for increased private sector investments through Public-Private Partnership initiatives and other strategies for increased Foreign Direct Investment as initiated by Office of Overseas Affairs & Investment,” he said.

Ashade said the ministry had continued to support the administration by evolving clear planning parameters to achieve the agenda of the government as adopted in the Lagos State Development Plan 2012-2025.

Ashade said that during the period under review, the ministry was able to manage the economy of the state through the prudent and stringent management of available resources.

He said that this was to ensure its desire to meet revenue projection of N30bn monthly in 2017 and N50bn monthly in 2018 through improvement on the various reforms.

Ashade said that in ensuring a strict implementation of the 2017 budget, the government had resolved to continue to ensure tighter control of recurrent expenditure.

“This is to free up funds for the capital proceeds, while still maintaining periodic review of performance through the quarterly budget,” he said.

Ashade said the state government had also developed the State-wide Monitoring and Evaluation policy to ensure accountability, effective service delivery and success reporting.

He said that once this policy became operational, project monitoring activities would be intensified to ensure that the people got value for money they spent.
