The Central Crime Branch sleuths have arrested five Nigerian nationals on the charge of peddling cocaine and ketamine in the city.

Based on a tip-off, a team of police personnel raided a house on Kalkere Main Road in Ramamurthy Nagar and arrested Ikpendu Peter (32), Chinedueze (32), Fidelis Ezeh (36), Monzo Joachin (33) and Valentine Chindlu (28).

They also recovered along with six grams of cocaine and eight grams of Ketamine (crystal meth) along with three passports, 14 mobile phones and three bikes from them.

The police are trying to ascertain how long the accused have been into the drug peddling business and the source of the drugs.

And the sentence awaiting them is not good. Sigh!

Samuel Collins, the 31-year-old man shot dead by unknown gunmen on Saturday in Yenagoa, is not a corps member, an official of the National Youths Service Corps (NYSC) in Bayelsa, has said.

Mr Mathew Ngobua, Head, Public Relations Unit, NYSC office Yenagoa, made the clarification on Monday in Yenagoa.

He said that checks conducted at NYSC database revealed that the name of the victim was not in the record.

He described reports that the victim was a corps member as “misleading,’’ adding that the security of corps members was top priority of the management of the NYSC in Bayelsa.

Collins was until his death, a contract security guard.

He was shot by unknown gunmen and dispossessed of his mobile phone, money and other valuables in Kpansia suburb of Yenagoa.

The Police Public Relations Officer at the Bayelsa Command, Mr Asinim Butswat, had confirmed the incident on Sunday in Yenagoa.

Butswat also corrected the impression that the victim was a corps member.

He explained that family members of the deceased said that Collins was undergoing training on oil and gas skills project in Port Harcourt.

“On 24 June, 2017 at 2130 hours, policemen responded to a distress call of cult activities at Kpansia, Yenagoa.

“The policemen responded swiftly and on arrival met a young man in a pool of blood.

“The young man was later identified as one Samuel Collins third party security operative at the Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board (NCDMB).

“Collins was undergoing training programme at Port Harcourt and came to Yenagoa for the holidays.

“The deceased was not an NYSC member as erroneously captured in some headlines,” Butswat said.

The police spokesman said the killing was cult related based on the utterances of the gunmen as narrated to the Police by eyewitnesses before the victim was shot.

He said that investigation was on-going to unravel those behind the dastardly act and apprehend them since the police had gathered useful information on the cult group.

On 16/06/2017, one Rev. Father (name withheld) of Okigwe Catholic Diocese was kidnapped and robbed of his Toyota Highlander jeep while on transit along Umuokpu Agbajah in Nwangele L.G.A by five unidentified armed men. On report of incident, operatives of the State Anti-Kidnapping Unit swung into action through tracking of the hoodlums.

On 18/06/2017, the victim was successfully rescued unhurt at Umuokpu forest in Agbajah Nwangele L.G.A. of Imo State and his Toyota Highlander jeep subsequently recovered at Umuocham in Agbajah Nwangele L.G.A. The above mentioned suspects were arrested in connection with the kidnap/robbery of the victim. Suspects have confessed to the crime and are cooperating with investigation. They have also disclosed the identity of their cohorts. They have equally confessed to other kidnapping/robbery operations they have carried out. On 18/6/2017, operatives of Ngor Okpala Division of the Command while acting on an intelligence report executed a search warrant in a shrine and house of one Chidera Njoku m of Umuagwu Alulu in Ngor Okpala L.G.A. of Imo State where the above listed exhibits were recovered. The suspect on sighting the police operatives took to his heels. Coordinated efforts are being made to apprehend the fleeing suspect.

Addressing newsmen during a press conference today, 20th June, 2017, at the Imo State Police Command Headquarters, Owerri, the commissioner of Police Imo State CP Chris Ezike stated that the Rev Father was rescued unhurt on Saturday in a forest in Agbaja in the Nwangele Local Government Area of Imo State and three of the kidnappers were nabbed immediately.

“He ran away. We have declared him wanted and his mother is with us. She is helping us in the investigation. I assure Imo people that we will get him” the Imo Police boss said.

Billionaire kidnapper, Evans, who has been making useful confessions since his arrest had named a man as one of the active members of his gang who was tasked with buying arms and ammunition for their operations.

Operatives of Nigerian Security Agencies in Bayelsa State, have started an investigation into the identity of a man named Suoyo whom notorious kidnap kingpin, Chukwudumeje Onwuamadike, aka Evans, mentioned as one of his gang members in the state, The Nation reports.

In one of his numerous confessional statements, Evans the kidnapper said Suoyo is one of the most active members of his gang, who had the job of buying arms and ammunition, for their operations.

He said: “When Suoyo, who lives in Bayelsa State, called me and expressed fears, I also assured him that nothing was going to happen. I told him I was making plans for another operation and needed him to go into the creeks and buy a new set of arms and ammunition”.

During the meeting in the Government House which had Governor Seriake Dickson in attendance, the security commanders were said to be certain that that the Suoyo mentioned by Evans was the same person who was recently arrested by the operatives of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in the state.

According to NSCDC, Suoyo Dickson was arrested and paraded on Thursday by the state Commandant of NSCDC, Mr. Desmond Agu, in connection with the recent attack on a pipeline which belong to the Nigerian Agip Oil Company (NAOC).

Suoyo who is also knows as Hustler, reportedly led a gang of vandals that attacked the Agip pipeline at Lagosgbene, Southern Ijaw Local Government Area of the state on May 30, 2017.

A security source said the security commander comprising of the of ODS, the police and NSCDC agreed that Suoyo should be subjected to further investigations.

The source said the security heads believed the suspect was responsible for the theft of service rifles of security operatives especially policemen in the state.

“The security heads also agreed to compile a list of such stolen arms and ammunition in the state and send it to the Force Headquarters to know whether they were among the ones recovered from Evans.

“The Suoyo mentioned by Evans seems in all ramifications to be the same suspected arrested by the NSCDC recently in connection with attack on a pipeline. The security heads in the state believe so and they will surely carry out further investigations to determine his linkage with the Evans’ gang,” the source said.
