thisday-attackCondemn Terrorist Attack On Media</strong>

RISING from an emergency meeting yesterday in Abuja, the Newspaper Proprietors Association of Nigeria (NPAN) visited the bombed office of ThisDay newspaper in Abuja where it condemned the recent attack and threat on the media by members of the Boko Haram sect.

Speaking on behalf of the association, after inspecting the bombed site, the Chairman of Daily Trust and Deputy President of NPAN, Kabiru Yusuf, expressed shock at the level of destruction and wondered why the media, which informs the public on happenings in the country, should be subjected to such attack.

“I am shocked at the level of destruction,” Yusuf said. “This is a public organ that gives the public information on happenings in the country and beyond. The media is a town hall meeting and forum for everybody to express views. We condemn this attack.”

Also speaking, Publisher of Thisday, Nduka Obaigbena, said that the media will never succumb to threat from any group but&nbsp;would continue to play its role of informing Nigerians without fear or favour.

He thanked members of the association, Nigerians and the international community for their solidarity.

It was gathered that a communiqué on the meeting would be published in newspapers on Monday.

The meeting was attended by Sam Amuka, Kabiru Yusuf,&nbsp;Nduka Obaigbena, Ismaila Isah, Sam Nda-Isaiah,&nbsp;Gbenga Adefeye and Comfort Obi.

Others are Martins Oloja who represented The Guardian, Yomi Odunuga who represented The Nation, Segun Adeniyi, Azubike Ishikwene and Eric Osagie and others.
