 The alleged cultists are said to be students of the Imo State University, Owerri. The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Andrew Enwerem, said that the suspects were nabbed at Orji Comprehensive Secondary School in the state during initiation. He gave the names of some of the alleged cultists as; Okafor Anyanwu, Chimezie Nwanezi, Umeh Chimezie, Obiji Obumneke, Ubani Lawrence, Okpara Chimezie
Others were Amouha Ikenna, Njoku Chidi , Ajaegbu Gabriel Golden, Alaforo Walter, Akpasuo Chimereijem, Okpara Jude Chijike, Ukachi Samuel, Christus Okerie,and Gaboh Lucky. According to him, the State Police Commissioner, Chris Ezike, who coordinated the operation, said the police would fight cultism in the state. The PPRO said the CP had ordered that the suspected cult members be charged to court.
