Foreshore School promises innovation in learning by Brookey55(m) : 12:09 am

The Director, The Foreshore School, Ikoyi, Lagos, Mrs. Olubunmi Egbeyemi, has said that innovation and creativity are necessary conditions for qualitative teaching and learning.

She has, therefore, called on proprietors to deploy new but tested teaching methods in the classrooms in order to achieve better learning outcomes.

Egbeyemi said this on Sunday during the 10th anniversary of the school in Lagos. The event, which was attended by many dignitaries, also marked the unveiling of a new name for the school.

Explaining the reason behind the name change, the educationist said it was informed by the need to capture the vision of the school for inspiration for all stakeholders.

She said, “It represents our journey as well as our vision. We pay attention to details to ensure that no child is left behind. We work in concert with parents to deliver individual learning.’’

Delivering the keynote address, the Dean of the Lagos Business School, Lekki, Dr. Enase Okonedo, said there was the need for a reassessment of the education sector in the country. In the lecture, titled Education as a Cutting Edge for the Nigerian Child, Okonedo said that reforms in the sector should be holistic and not directed at the curriculum alone.

She said, “We only focus on the knowledge within the curriculum. But, outside of it, we must also consider the teachers. Are they getting the best training? If we are going to educate the Nigerian child to enable him to actualise his dreams, we have to ensure that there is adequate funding backed up with the right policy.

“What are we educating the Nigerian child for? We need to consider the future of work because the change has become more rapid. In a more developed world, workers are being replaced by robot and knowledge is growing at an exponential rate.”
