No fewer than 15,000 members of Stakeholders of Local Government System in Kwara State have threatened to embark on an indefinite strike should the Kwara State Government fail to accede to their demand.

The stakeholders include the Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees, Nigeria Union of Teachers, Medical and Health Union Workers of Nigeria, Nigeria Union of Pensioners, National Association of Nigeria Nursing and Midwifery and Non-Academic Staff Union, SUBEB branch.

The aggrieved workers, in a communiqué after their joint meeting, rejected the N1bn approved by Governor Abdulfatah Ahmed, for the local government areas from the state’s N5.12bn share of the Paris Club refund.

The communiqué was signed by Oloruntade Ibikunle of NULGE, Muritala Olayinka of MHUWN, Toyin Saliu of NUT, and Shehu Babatunde for NASU,  Kwara SUBEB, among others.

Ibikunle, who is a deputy president of NULGE in the state, read the communiqué to journalists in Ilorin, the state capital on Friday.

He said,  “We resolved that the declaration by the state government to release an appalling N1bn out of the N5.1bn released to the state government is not only unfair but an act of insensitivity to the plight of our impoverished members who are dying by the day.
