Deposed Bazoum is just one of a few pro-Western leaders in the Sahel region. The West in it's characteristic spirit of embezzlement and corruption has funneled millions of dollars to Niger since 2012 to ostensibly boost the nation's security. I was and I'm still an avid supporter of Tinubu but he's wrong on this one.
His sentiments and reaction has no foundation in fact or reality. He should avoid more disgrace.
The morale of Nigerien soldiers to sacrifice in defense of their homeland is very high.
What will motivate the soldiers of thier enemies? Money? Corruption disguised as Democracy?
The soldiers of Nigeria, Ivory Coast, Ghana and Senegal are weak, demoralized, unmotivated and overwhelmed due to domestic issues in their respective countries while
Gambia, Benin, Togo, Sierra Leone, Liberia, Guinea-Bissau and Cape Verde are bench warmers.

The millitary government of Niger should ask Wagner for help.
What does African countries, for example Nigeria have to offer Russia? Food? Technology? Oil and Gas? Nigeria needs Russia more than Russia needs Nigeria.
If a mutually beneficial relationship between Russia and Burkinafaso, Mali and Niger brings physical development in infrastructure, technology and amenities, Nigerians would migrate to Niger for greener pastures.

South Africa is the most desired African country for migration by Nigerians who have the means and the reason is not far fetched. This has lead to South Africa enacting strict immigration control against Nigerians.

Senegal’s government suspends internet
In a move to prevent disturbances to public order, the Senegalese government has once again shut down the country’s internet services. The shutdown, which occurred last Friday, came shortly after the arrest of prominent opposition leader, Ousmane Sonko. This is the second time in two months that the government has taken such action, as they previously shut down the internet in early June following Sonko’s arrest on that occasion as well.

The shutdown was confirmed through a statement signed by Moussa Bocar Thiam, the Minister of Communications, Telecommunications, and Digital Economy. The statement required telephone operators to comply with the internet shutdown, citing the dissemination of “hateful and subversive messages” on social media platforms in the context of public disorder. The shutdown was implemented through temporary suspension of mobile data at certain time slots starting from July 31, 2023.

The latest internet shutdown in Senegal has raised concerns about freedom of information and expression in the country. As governments grapple with social and political challenges, it remains to be seen how internet shutdowns will continue to impact citizens’ access to information and communication channels.

Senegal bans opposition party
Authorities claim the party's leaders have continued to violate their constitutional obligations

Senegal's government has dissolved the Patriots of Senegal for Work, Ethics, and Fraternity (PASTEF), the party of opposition leader Ousmane Sonko, accusing the coalition of rallying supporters to "insurrectionary movements."

Frequent violent protests, authorized by the party, have resulted in "serious" repercussions, including many deaths and injuries, as well as looting and destruction of property, the Senegalese interior ministry said in a statement.

“The latest are the serious disturbances to public order recorded during the first week of June 2023, after those of March 2021,” the ministry said.

The announcement came after Sonko was arrested and charged with new offenses, including planning an insurrection, and remanded in the Sebikotane prison.

Supporters of the opposition leader took to the streets of Dakar and Ziguinchor on Monday, clashing with police while accusing authorities of attempting to sideline their candidate ahead of the February 2024 presidential election.

Senegalese Interior Minister Antoine Felix Abdoulaye Diome said "two lifeless male" bodies were discovered following Monday's protests in Ziguinchor.

In June, violence erupted across the country, killing at least 16 people after Sonko received a separate two-year prison sentence for immoral behavior toward people under the age of 21. He was not, however, transferred to a jail.

The PASTEF party has accused President Macky Sall's government of political witch-hunting and has called on protesters to take to the streets to oppose attempts to intimidate Sonko from running in the presidential elections in February.

However, the interior ministry claimed on Monday that the opposition party's actions constitute a "serious and permanent breach of the obligations of political parties" under the country's constitution.

A spokesperson of the PASTEF was quoted by Reuters as saying the party will “attack this decision, the Senegalese people will resist."

Concerns about further violence following the imprisonment of the opposition leader on Monday prompted authorities to restrict internet access in the former French colony to prevent the spread of "hateful messages."

Political crisis in Sierra Leone deepens as senior army officers are arrested

Several senior military officers have been arrested in Sierra Leone, after weeks of political instability following the conclusion of presidential and general elections held on 24th of June 2023.

According to a statement published by the police yesterday, the senior military officers were among several people arrested and detained by the police, suspected of plotting to use a planned public protest next week “to launch violent attacks on state institutions and citizens”.

Stopping short of referring to the alleged attacks as a coup against the government, the police said that: “Preliminary investigations have revealed that these individuals planned to use purported peaceful protests between 7th and 10th August 2023, as a guise to unleash violent attacks against state institutions and peaceful citizens.”

President Bio did not attend last week’s ECOWAS leaders meeting in Abuja, as security around the president and State House remains tense.

Speaking at a press conference held at police headquarters yesterday, the police did not disclose the names of those arrested and the number of officers involved.

But these arrests do not come as a surprise to many political analysts who have been writing about fractured relationships between State House and senior military officers in Sierra Leone, who are deeply concerned about the current political crisis in the country that has been triggered by what international and local election observers have described as “rigged election results” announced by the Electoral Commission.

President Julius Maada Bio was declared winner of the presidential elections at the first round of ballots in June, but the actual disaggregated polling station results have been hidden from the public by the Chief Electoral Commissioner – Mohamed Konneh, prompting accusations of electoral fraud.

The main opposition party APC (All People's Congress, not to be confused with Nigeria's All Progressive Congress), and the international community are calling for the publication of all polling station results to ensure transparency and to verify the legitimacy of the Bio-led government.

Sierra Leone is regionally and tribally divided, and this polarity runs across all facets of public life – including the military and police, where it is thought that senior officers are deeply dissatisfied with the political impasse caused by the election fallout between the ruling SLPP whose political heartland is in the southeast, and the main opposition APC from the northwest of the country.

The country’s economy is in serious trouble, with inflation running at 49% and youth unemployment increasing year on year with no sign in sight of an effective government response.

Foreign investors are shying away from the country, following President Bio’s recent crackdown on protesters which has seen over one hundred people gunned down in cold blood.

Elected members of parliament, local councillors and mayors representing the main opposition All People’s Congress (APC) party are boycotting all political involvement and engagement with the government, including abstention from the country’s parliament, until all polling station results have been published, or a re-run of the elections is conducted under the leadership of a new chief electoral officer.

With several West African nations including neighbouring Guinea, Mali, Burkina Faso and now Niger under the grip of disgruntled military leaders who justify their intervention with evidence of corruption by the ruling elites, poor governance and growing poverty, countries like Sierra Leone will continue to face political instability and threats of military coups if election crises and question of legitimacy are left unresolved.

Nigeria, Ghana, Ivory Coast etc are also grappling with serious domestic insecurity, economic meltdown, political and social turmoil but these so called 'democratic countries' want to invade Niger and start a war with Burkinafaso and Mali in the name of unwanted/uninvited intervention to restore/defend constitutional democracy. It will end in disgrace for those 'democratic' Ecowas members.
I understand that Tinubu feels that his position as the president of Nigeria is threatened. I'll like to allay his fears. A coup in Nigeria under his presidency is impossible.
The Northerners would need the support of either the Yorubas or Igbos and I'm certain that the Yorubas would resist. An alliance between Northerners and Igbos is also very unlikely (It's impossible).
Yorubas would need the support of the Northerners, an alliance with the igbos is irrelevant. For any coup to succeed in Nigeria, it must be supported by the Northerners (or it'll be another Ironsi situation).
We Yorubas have our son as the president of Nigeria. In the history of Nigeria's former heads of state, a Yoruba man has not overthrown another Yoruba man.
President Tinubu, E lo fo kan bale.
