Two female suicide bombers on Sunday blew themselves up in a failed mission In Maiduguri, the capital city of Borno state.
The incident took place in Guleri village, a little distance to Muna Garage in Maiduguri. The suspected terrorists were stopped at a check point by security operatives around 8:30pm in Guleri village where their planned mission was foiled. DSP Victor Isuku, Borno state Police Public Relations Officer, who issued a statement concerning the incident said one of the female suicide bombers detonated an Improvised Explosive Device (IED), glued to her body, killing herself and her partner on the spot. He further stated that three residents of the area were injured and were rushed to the hospital for medical attention. “Three residents of the area were however injured. The Police EOD unit rushed to the scene to render the unexploded IED safe. The area has been secured and normalcy restored,†said Isuku. The spate of suicide bombers in Maiduguri is still alarming despite the efforts of the military to eradicate insurgency in the north east.
