The National Examinations Council (NECO) has shown its disdain for forgery as the body dismissed 70 of its staff over certificate forgery.

The decision to dismissed the alleged certificate forgers was reached at the 17th extra-ordinary meeting of the governing board.

This was contained in a statement signed by Azeez Sani, the head of information and public relations division in Minna.

He said the dismissal happened as a result of a report submitted by a Committee constituted to verify the certificates of staff by the management of NECO.

According to The Nation, majority of the staff belonged to the junior cadre. The newspaper reports that only few senior staff were affected.

The report went further to state that the schools which the dismmissed staff claimed they attended denied them during the verification exercise.

Also, the dismissed staff were given the chance to defend themselves before the certificate verification committee.

Some of the staff reportedly confessed to using fake certificates.
