A few days ago, the news broke like a huge flame coming from different corners that  President Muhammadu Buhari would be getting married to a new wife. According to the rumour mill, the new bride was 44-year old Hajia Sadiya Umar Farouq, the new Minister of Humanitarian Services. 

While many took it as a rumour, some fell for it hook, line and sinker. The rumour mill said the wedding would take place on Thursday 10th of October and the social media was agog with the rumours. What made many people not to believe it was because all the mainstream newspapers did not carry the story. Even the mainstream online medium also did not touch it. 

What now punctured the rumour that day was the tweet of the lady in question, Hajia Sadiya Umar Farouq which reads: “There have been several speculations in the media regarding marriage between myself & Baba Buhari. I will like to clarify this that me and Baba Buhari have been old-time friends and Her Excellency Aisha is my good friend and a sister. I will like to maintain this good relationship”. 

Until now, no one can explain where the rumour came from or how it started.

When City People asked Mr Femi Adesina, the SA to the President last Thursday if indeed there would be a wedding of such, he smiled and said it was a lie and the figment of the imagination of those who concocted the rumour. On why Aso Rock did not officially deny the rumour, he said there was no need to do so since the rumour will die down when people see that no such marriage takes place. He explained that the rumour was deliberately put out to confuse people. “We have decided not to be drawn into the unnecessary controversy over an imaginary story,” he said. But, “what sort of a woman is Hajia Sadiya? We can tell you more about her. She was educated at the Federal Government Girls’ College Gusau, Zamfara State and Ahmadu Bello University Zaria, Kaduna State where she graduated with a Bsc. in Business Administration (Actuarial Science) in 1998. She then went further to earn her Masters degree in International Affairs and Diplomacy in 2008 and also her Masters in Business Administration (MBA) in 2011 from Ahmadu Bello University Zaria, Kaduna State. 

From 1999 – 2000, Faruk served with the Nigeria National Assembly, under the Senate Committee on Aviation and worked with the Senate Committee on Appropriation.

Between 2001 – 2003, she also worked as the Operations Manager at Pinnacle Travels and Tours Ltd (a Nigerian travel agency) before joining the National Assembly Service Commission as an Administrative Officer II in 2003 where she rose to the Position of Principal Administrative Officer before leaving the commission in 2010 to pursue her political ambitions. Between 2011 – 2013, she became the National treasurer of the CPC , and then Interim National Treasurer of the APC from 2013-2014 before her appointment as Member, All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign Council where she served in the directorates of election planning and monitoring, field operations, and fundraising, in preparation for the 2015 general elections which the APC won. On September 26, 2016, Sadiya was appointed the Honourable Federal Commissioner (HFC) of the National Commission for Refugees, Migrants and Internally Displaced Persons. The former Commissioner for Refugee, migrant and internally displaced persons was born on 5 November 1974. She is a politician and business administrator. She is a founding member of the All Progressives Congress (APC) where she served as Member of the party’s Presidential Campaign Council in the 2015 Presidential elections. She hails from Zurmi Local Government of Zamfara State.

Between 1999 – 2000, Farouq, under the mandatory National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) Scheme served with the Nigeria National Assembly. She served under the Senate Committee on Aviation and worked with the Senate Committee on Appropriation.
