on under Nigerian midfielder, Tariq Uwakwe, has finally signed his contract with Chelsea. By this, the youngster ended all speculations surrounding his future at the club. The 19-year-old would have been a free agent on July 1 but has decided to extend his stay with the Blues. Uwakwe confirmed on Saturday that he has accepted the offer of a new contract and penned the deal, according to Allnigeriasoccer. It is believed that an official announcement will be made by The Blues next month. Previous reports suggested that the central midfielder was offered to Lyon as he had wanted to explore other options but any proposed move is dead in the water for the time being. Born in London, Uwakwe joined Chelsea Academy at U9 level and rose through the ranks before becoming an important member of the U23 team. He represented Chelsea youth teams in the UEFA Youth League, Premier League 2 and the EFL Trophy last season.
