German Chancellor Angela Merkel has reacted to the concerns about her health after she was filmed trembling uncontrollably at an official ceremony Tuesday.

Merkel, who turns 65 next month, couldn’t keep her body from shaking as she stood beside visiting Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelensky, whom she was welcoming to her office building with military honours.

The video sparked concerns and Merkel has now reacted to it, saying she was just a bit dehydrated in the heat.

 

At a news conference which held about 90 minutes later, a reporter asked about Merkel’s health and she smiled and said: “I’ve drunk at least three glasses of water and so I’m doing fine.”

 

Zelensky, 41, also joked about the incident. He said that he would have come to Merkel’s rescue if necessary.

 

“She was standing next to me and completely safe,” he said.
