Aftermath series of preparations ahead of the Commonwealth games which is schedule to kick off April 4th-16th at Gold Coast in Australia. Nigeria contingents including Minister of Youths and Sports (Barr.) Solomon Dalung who departed few days ago before the batch A set of Athletes that traveled yesterday evening via Emirate Airline by 6pm at the Nnamdi Azikwe International Airport, Abuja.

Hopefully, the batch B is leaving for Australia on Monday in order to get acclimatize before the events begins.

According to the permanent secretary Mr. Olusade Adesola while addressing the Athletes, we urge you to represent us well as you target to improve your careers although, you should not be under pressure to deliver as your welfare is cater for. Remember, our slogan is “Go for Gold” because the Ministry has done so much to encourage the athletes including the country president Mohammad Buhari (GCFR). Adding that athletes have to play by the rules so that their hardwork for months will not be in vain” Olusade concluded.

However, over (90) ninety athletes are representing Nigerians while (43) Officials among whom are accompanied by team Doctors, Coaches, Directors and Minister of Youths and Sports. More also, team Nigeria will be participating in (10) different sports activities namely: Athletics, Basketball, Wrestling, Weightlifting, Boxing, Table Tennis, Gymnastics, Para table tennis, Para Athletics, Para Power lifting.


Meanwhile, the (Chief Nigeria Anti-doping Chairman) Femi Ayorinde told Journalists, “We are very sure the athletes departing from Nigeria here are well tested negative, we also educate them on questions and answers. Assuring Nigerians that our test is standard but we have advised them not to be under pressure to win so that they will not compromise their health” Ayorinde summarized.

Nevertheless, speaking to some of the athletes such as Nwosu Ndidi, the (2016 Gold medalist) who briefed journalist, “I can assure Nigerians that we will bring positive results home because we been camping for 3 months now”. Also, Abegoye Oyeniyi said, “It been handwork since 2017 in camp but we are ready to prove ourselves”.

And Folasade Abugan (2014 Silver medalist) told the Press, “We are well prepared but we are sure of Gold medals because we want to defend our previous titles Folasade continue. In addition, Coach Are Fasyisetun tell us, “Everyone is ready for the long-awaited dreams to be at the Commonwealth games, despite winning just (4 gold medals) in Dubai, the athletes are going to do better in Australia”.
