‘Do Not Give Up On Nigeria, There Is Hope’ – Former Deputy Governor Of The Central Bank Of Nigeria by Whizee(m) : 5:05 pm

Former Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, Prof. Kingsley Moghalu, has urged Nigeria youths not to give up on the country because of the current economic difficulties.

He declared that the genuine transformation of Nigeria was no longer far and urged the citizens to be optimistic of a brighter future for the country.

Moghalu stated this March 9, 2018 during the 2nd annual conference of the National Youth Council of Nigeria, NYCN, organised by its Directorate of Political and Democratic Matters, in Abuja.

The event was titled: “Roles of Nigerian youths in fostering peace, accountability and good governance.”

He advised Nigerian youths not to give up hope because “there is always light beyond the darkness.”

Moghalu said: “As it is true that, just before day light, that is when the darkness is stronger. So, let us understand this and know that the real transformation of Nigeria is coming and let our citizens who have given up hope, restore their hope in the country and act on that hope.

“Hope is not a strategy. You should have hope, but you must take action, as the power is in the hand of the citizens to change their destiny. They should simply elect the right kind of leadership and there will be the necessary transformation,” he stated.

Moghalu, who recently joined the 2019 presidential race, said that, “it is time our people stop selling their future for little things that will not assure them of a better future.

“Look at the people who are asking for your vote and ask yourself, do they have the capacity, character, competence, and their track records? That is the basis on which you should vote for any politician whether for a local government chairman, state governor, the president or senator.

“If you take a bag of rice from a politician or sell your vote by taking either N2,000 or N5,000, what happened to your child or brother who doesn’t have a job? Four years later, they might still not have a job and then the same politician comes back and give you the same amount and you take it, you are selling yourself into slavery,” he said.

Earlier, the Director of the Directorate of Political and Democratic Matters of NYCN, Comrade Obinna Nwaka, said that the conference was to reorient Nigeria youths and to ensure that the government gives adequate attention to the issues confronting the youths in the country.

He listed such issues as unemployment, youth restiveness, lack of welfare and financing of projects which would empower and develop the youth.

Nwaka called for the sustenance of the N-Power programme “because after two years of giving them stipends that are not sustainable, what happened at the end of the two years? Is the government going to make it a permanent job and after the period of the empowerment and the scheme is discontinued, what is the expectation of the youths who are beneficiaries”
